January 28, 2020—Critically acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May returns with her sixth studio album, 11 Past the HourApril 23 via Decca Records; pre-order the record HERE.
Just One Kiss,” the new single from the forthcoming LP, is out now and features Noel Gallagher on vocals and Ronnie Wood on guitar; watch/share the official music video—which debuted via NMEHERE. “He’s just joyous to be around. It’s infectious,” May says of Wood, “He’s fast, really on-the-ball, and he knows intuitively when something is working.” Of Gallagher, she says he brought his “great vibe and kick-ass voice.”
May describes of “Just One Kiss,” “That moment you know it can go either way. The sharp notion if you succumb you might just lose control. The split-second decision you know might change everything, with just one kiss. Could you resist?”
The LP marks a new chapter for May, and finds her working with collaborators such as Wood, Gallagher, Miles Kane, with contributions from feminist thinkers and activists such as Gina Martin and Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu. The album was primarily written with co-producer Tim Bran (London Grammar, Primal Scream,) and string arranger Davide Rossi (Coldplay, U2, Goldfrapp).
11 Past the Hour is my truth…” May says of the album. “I’d like to think I can put into words and music what we all feel sometimes. We all laugh, sing, love, cry, dance, kiss, care, we all experience lust, anger, joy, worry, sorrow and hope... Each song is a moment in my life. Each life is a moment in time. Every minute counts.”
May has previously shared the album’s title track as well as “Never Look Back.” The tracks were the first taste of new music from the best-selling artist in three years, following the release of her limited edition spoken word poetry EP, Slip of the Tongue, which received critical praise.

Critical acclaim for May:

“Ms. May has a voice made for an earlier rock era—strong, assured and able
to open up to belting and keep building from there.”

“The versatile Irish singer conveys her emotional ups and downs by belting
to the back row and, with equal ease, dropping down to a near whisper…there’s
blood on these tracks, but also resilience and staying power.”

“It’s clear that Imelda May is here to stay.”

[2017 album Life, Love, Flesh, Blood is] unapologetically open and unvarnished.”
Born and raised in The Liberties area of Dublin, May was discovered by Jools Holland and has gone on to become one of Ireland’s most celebrated female artists. She has performed alongside notable artists including Lou Reed, Smokey Robinson, Jeff Beck and Van Morrison.
May’s first ever spoken word poetry EP, Slip of the Tongue, was released earlier this year to critical acclaim, selling out within three days of release in the UK. 2017’s Life Love Flesh Blood LP was produced by T Bone Burnett and released to rave reviews. Burnett says of working with May, “I’ve never met anyone quite like Imelda May. She is full of life… I [am] inspired by her honesty and her generosity, and I continue to be intrigued.” In celebration of the release, May performed select North American dates with Elvis Costello & The Imposters.
