MAPS, aka composer and producer James Chapman, shares
The Go! Team’s remix of
“Sleep Today,” taken from his forthcoming 4-track EP out
December 18. Listen to the remix
here and the original track
here.
Chapman chose to invite The Go! Team to remix his new track, in part to reflect the mood of the original version. He explains,
“The Go! Team were the first people that came to mind because their music is so joyous. They’ve delivered an absolute classic of a remix, delving into the different parts of my song and creating something completely fresh, while also adding that signature ‘Go! Team’ sound. I love it.” The uplifting mood of the original track and the remix leads us perfectly into the new year. Both will be included on a new EP which also feature new track “Something New” and an accompanying remix by
The Other Two (Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert from New Order).
“Sleep Today” was originally recorded during the making of his most recent album
Colours. Reflect. Time. Loss., out now on Mute. His most ambitious to date, the album saw the Mercury Prize-nominated artist working with Echo Collective and embarking on a series of performances that included a sold-out show at the Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room in London.
Talking about “Sleep Today,” Chapman says,
“Music has always been a therapy for me, and I definitely have an escapist mentality when creating and listening to songs. ‘Sleep Today’ is a song that always lifts my spirits when I listen to it, and that is the feeling I was trying to evoke when writing and recording the track.” The new EP follows
Colours. Remixed. Time. Loss., a remix series that ran over the summer of 2020 which boasted a phenomenal line-up including
Stephen Morris, TVAM,
GLOK (aka Andy Bell from Ride), Russian Linesman, Barry Adamson, Polly Scattergood, C Duncan, Simon Fisher Turner,
A Certain Ratio and more.
