“There’s a lonesome vibe to his brand of heartland rock, evoking late nights on a deserted road, or neon-lit streets just after a rainstorm.”
-BROOKLYN VEGAN
“His music has a distinct cinematic quality to it, as it explores the weird, grotesque, and strangely beautiful corners of the human psyche.”
-NOISEY

“[Highway Dancer] feels like the soundtrack to a movie you desperately want to see.”
- AQUARIUM DRUNKARD
Canadian singer-songwriter Calvin Love has released his new video for “Wildflower” via Earmilk, along with the announcement that he’ll be joining Jonathan Wilson on a string of US dates. The song, a standout off of his new album Highway Dancer (Modern Sky USA), is a haunting, synth-driven track that allows Love’s mercurial, goosebump-raising voice to take center stage.
As Love explains, “ ‘Wildflower’ reflects on time, communication, growing up, and how the pursuit of a dream can be a lonely journey.” The vaguely mysterious and darkly romantic song is brought to life in the video thanks to director Steven Johnson, who wanted to capture the signature way Love ended his residency at La Petite Poubelle in Hollywood each night:
“Wildflower is a GREAT song,  and the quirky, eccentric way in which Calvin performs the song needed to be captured for the video…and that’s what we did. I wanted a stylized, yet sparse video that would harken back to the old 70’s imagery of Bryan Ferry, Bowie, and David Byrne. Calvin is one of the few artists you can do that with..where he alone is enough of a character that you can watch him perform to nothing and to no one, and it’s interesting. I want you to feel like you are watching a lounge act in a David Lynch film.  This is Calvin Love as Isabella Rossellini in Blue Velvet." Probably the best thing I’ve ever made.”
Shot on location inside the venue before the last night of his residency, the video serves as an accurate representation of how Love closed-out every evening, under a glittering disco ball as he sang to a packed house—a stint that won him many new fans as well as attention from local outlets like the taste-making KCRW and more.
Highway Dancer is the latest addition to Love's catalog of cerebrally-crafted, atmospheric indie pop. The album stems from the same period of songwriting as his 2017 EP, Ecdysis, and encapsulates the observations and inspiration from Love's life on the road.

"The songs you hear on this album were compiled from a larger collection over the past three years. Many of the songs are the subconscious soundtrack to my life and travels before my mind had a chance to conceive them. Inspiration came from everything that attracted my inner soul to the external forces and beauty this world has to offer."
In addition two December dates in New York and Los Angeles, Love is hitting the road in February with Night Beats for a UK/European tour. Stops include a residency in London, Paris, Berlin, and more, plus a string of solo dates in Februrary/March, immediately followed by US dates supporting Jonathan Wilson.
