Jazz Fest is upon us, and that means countless music-fans will be making a pilgrimage to the birthplace of jazz, and all-around one-of-a-kind city, New Orleans to enjoy music, fun, and unrivaled spring weather. New Orleans is a city known for its resilience, and it would not have this reputation if not for the residents and businesses that make it up. One such business will be kicking off a celebration of their 20 years in business this weekend.

Basin Street Records has been releasing music by some of New Orleans best recording artists for nearly two decades, and they want the world to know that they’re here to stay by celebrating their 20th birthday in style.

Come out for an all-star post-Jazz Fest show on May 5 at The Little Gem Saloon, it’sBasin Street Records 20th Anniversary Kickoff. Doors at 7 and show at 8:30. The kickoff will feature music upstairs and downstairs with performances including: The Trumpet Battle: Kermit Ruffins v. Irvin MayfieldHenry ButlerDr. Michael White,Jason MarsalisDavell Crawford and more! It’s rare to see this many phenomenal artists in one building, and who knows who else might show up to sit in. In keeping with their tradition of releasing the best New Orleans music, Basin Street has a new album in the works slated for a September release. Powered by the presence and inimitable charm of their flagship artist, Kermit Ruffins, steered by the discerning ear of Irvin Mayfield, and featuring over 50 New Orleans musicians including some very special guests (we’re talking New Orleans musical royalty), this will be a must-hear album.

Basin Street plans to continue the celebration with several 20th anniversary shows all over the world throughout the year spotlighting the talented artists that have created the music on the label throughout its career. In keeping with the theme of looking back at the last 20 years of music-making, expect to see some perfectly-curated compilations that dare to distill the best of the hundreds of tracks that have made it onto releases with the Basin Street stamp.
