The new single follows their breakout tracks, “Backseats,” a woozy ode to romantic loss, and “Ten to Twelve”, with visceral snapshots of altered states and falling for your best friend.  Meeting Bug Eyed – comprised of Blue O’Grady and Charlie Sale — feels like being swept into a kinetic forcefield of energy, excitement, and unbridled creativity. Their music mirrors this dynamic, delivering their vivid vignettes through a kaleidoscopic blend of indie, electro-pop, hip-hop, 80s synth, and 90s fuzz-rock guitars. On “A Rated Horror Movies,” Bug Eyed continue to unfurl their knack for storytelling as the dramatic opus chronicles Blue’s fist major heartbreak and features an explosive sonic detonation courtesy of Charlie’s pedal board cranked to "everything on!" Bug Eyed’s cinematic storytelling unpacks the struggles and joys of being young, spirited, and romantic in today’s chaotic world. Their poetic narratives explore love, sex, friendship, ambition, and hope, all set against lush, intricately layered soundscapes that combine synth-pop finesse with driving guitars and boundless sonic experimentation. After captivating audiences while supporting Sad Night Dynamite and performing at the Pitchfork Festival in Paris, Bug Eyed are now gearing up for their next big adventure. From December 2024 to February 2025, they’ll join Lola Young on her UK and European tour, bringing their electrifying live show to Glasgow, Manchester, and London, before heading to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Fire Records and The Chills whānau have announced a very special post-humous release of Martin Phillips unreleased early tracks — immortalised by his band and peers from the Aotearoa music family. Out on double vinyl and CD on the 28th of February next year — and available to order from Flying Nun Records both online and in store. For Aotearoa-based customers only, there is a limited edition 2LP + handwritten booklet bundle available to order. ‘Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs’ is a Martin Phillipps passion project. A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated talent. The album has been finalised for release with the love and support of his band, family and friends.     As the subject of an undulating life and times movie – The Chills: The Triumph And Tragedy Of Martin Phillipps – Chills’ singer, songwriter and main motivator, Martin Phillipps spent the last decade releasing studio and live albums while careering into his sixtieth year with typical gusto.   Amid such momentum, Martin was stilling digging through old tapes, searching for the foundations that resulted in global rapture in 1987, an overnight success that took a mere seven years to ignite. These early songs and musings were revisited, revised and finally put to record. As such, ‘Spring Board’ is the final chapter of The Chills, immeasurably significant output.

‘Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs’ is alarming, personal, brittle and at times hopelessly upbeat. This is a man casting his mind back on an esoteric career that led to nothing short of cult status; someone rediscovering his roots, his innermost thoughts, hopes and fears.    The Chills are Martin Phillipps, Oli Wilson, Erica Scally and Callum Hampton. ‘Spring Board’ features contributions from Fur Patrol’s Julia Deans, Elroy Finn and Split Enz, Crowded House alumni Neil Finn, Tiny Ruins’ Hollie Fullbrook, Greg Haver, Troy Kingi, Shona Laing, Tami Neilson, Dianne Swann, and Purple Pilgrims’ Clementine and Valentine Nixon.

He has lost none of his form, edge, nerve, or feel for what’s still out there waiting to be done.” – The Quietus   Today Maverick musician and artist Edvard Graham Lewis returns with new album ‘Alreet?’: an exciting album of majestic, experimental pop set for release on January 24th via Upp Records.   The cheery North Eastern greeting of the album’s title belies the tension and drama that lies within. Here, you’ll find visceral rhythms, warm electronics and multiple melodic layers, with words that are sometimes sung, sometimes spoken. Lewis’s deep, distinctive voice has matured into a rich baritone: portentous yet immediate - and it serves his material exceptionally well.   Today, along with the announcement he shares the urgent broadcast “Last Scene Of All”, where speeches from Shakespeare’s As You Like It and The Tempest lock together to suggest a life going out with a bang not a whimper. Lewis is one of very few artists with the confidence and brio to create a lyric collaged purely from the works of Shakespeare. Lyrically he remains one of our finest wordsmiths. His desire to edit his text to its essentials is smartly counterbalanced by an ability to seed double or triple meanings in his phraseology. Consequently, 'Alreet?' is studded with lines and couplets that snare our attention with unexpected hooks and barbs.   The album was co-produced with Swedish songwriter, producer and musician Max Lorentz, who has worked with everyone from acclaimed composer Magnus Lindberg, to ABBA’s Agnetha Faltskog. It features contributions from Wire cohorts Matthew Simms and Robert Grey, cello by Kevin Kirs Vestege, hurdy-gurdy by Harald Pettersson and guitars sampled from ex-Wire member Bruce Gilbert.   Aside from his work with Wire, Lewis has previously released a string of solo albums, under both his own name and the He Said and H-A-L-O monikers. Meanwhile, in partnership with Wire’s Bruce Gilbert, he created five albums of industrial strength studio manipulation as Dome. He has also recorded scores for documentaries, dance pieces and art installations, as well as recording collaborative albums with various musical luminaries, including Mike Watt, Jean-Louis Huhta, Ted Milton and Anna Livia Löwendahl-Atomic.   As ‘Alreet?’ clearly demonstrates, Lewis is still firmly facing the future and determined to unearth new sonic treasure. In celebration of Frank Black’s landmark solo album, Teenager Of The Year turning 30, Frank Black tells all about the making of Teenager Of The Year in a unique podcast with Mark Beaumount. This special vinyl tour edition of Teenager Of The Year, has been remastered for the first time from its original analogue studio tapes. Sounding as essential as the day it was released, the limited 30th Anniversary Tour Edition is cut at 45 rpm for optimum playback and is being pressed on double gold vinyl. The album also comes in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by both Frank Black and producer Eric Drew Feldman. A 24-bit digital version is being released on the same day.   Originally recorded amid a rich songwriting vein, just as the Pixies had been placed on hold, Frank Black’s ambitious double album Teenager Of The Year came out in May 1994, just one year after his fantastic self- titled solo debut. Recorded with scene legend Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, Pere Ubu, The Residents), Teenager Of The Year, is now widely regarded as the defining statement of his solo career and the best album the Pixies never made.
