“My son Wolfgang is very different to me, thank god, but we have so many things in common; dancing, making up songs, and vocalizing strange combinations of words and ideas that make us laugh, or make sense to us in some meaningful way. At a certain point, I started writing down these words and random ideas to use as titles. Quite a few of the songs from this album, and from Fire Doesn't Grow On Trees are in fact his ideas, including ‘Your Mind Is My CafĂ©’ and ‘The Future Is Your Past.’ Both of these albums, and many more songs were written in Berlin at my studio during the pandemic. A song a day, written, recorded and shared on YouTube as a work in progress. I felt like everything was so sad and hopeless, but I am not helpless. I decided to sing anthems to empower me, to remember to remember, to fight the beast until it dies, to give it everything you got because that's all there is to give... these were not songs for covid times, for these times of war and crisis after crisis, these are songs for all time.” --Anton Newcombe

Anton Newcombe -- frontman, songwriter, composer, studio owner, multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, father, force of nature -- returns with the Brian Jonestown Massacre's 20th full-length studio album Your Future Is Your Past on his own label A Recordings. The lead track Fudge was released on 30th September.

It is 30 years since the release of their first single "She Made Me / Evergreen", released in 1992. As leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Newcombe had already established himself as a visionary songwriter, a man to whom making music wasn't a lifestyle choice or a hipster haircut but the very fabric of existence itself. Instead of saying yes to everything like many of his peers Anton Newcombe was different. He was going to say no to everything. Much of this was documented on the controversial documentary Dig!, one of the best rock documentaries ever made.

Brian Jonestown Massacre's shoegazing-tinged debut album Methodrone (AUK 008CD/LP) was released in 1995 and since then numerous bandmembers have joined Newcombe on his sonic escapades, but he has remained the sole constant and creative mastermind. There have been a further 19 albums under the Brian Jonestown Massacre moniker since then, each embarking on their own mind-expanding adventure and exploring the outer realms of rock n' roll; psychedelic rock, country-blues, snarling rock n' roll, blissed-out noise-pop and more. Along the way, Newcombe has established himself as a once-in-a-lifetime talent who saw the direction in which mainstream indie-rock was heading and opted to take the long way round. He's hopped around the globe, from the West Coast to New York, from Manhattan to Iceland, and then to Berlin, where he's lived for 14 years and has two flats, one to live in and one that's been converted into his studio. He goes there six days a week to work and write and record and produce.

After a hugely prolific 2010s that saw the release of eight long-players and one mini-album, Newcombe had been going through a period of writer's block when one day he picked up his 12-string guitar and "The Real" (the opening track on previous album Fire Doesn't Grow on Trees) came out of him. After that, they tracked a song every day for 70 days and had two albums ready to go by the end. Joining Newcombe in the studio for The Future Is Your Past were Hakon Adalsteinsson (guitar) and Uri Rennert (drums).

ABOUT THE CHARLATANS UK:

The Charlatans – Martin Blunt (bass), Tim Burgess (vocals), Mark Collins (guitar), and Tony Rogers (keyboards) – have been on a remarkable journey for over three decades, from their beginnings as 1990 Manchester scene hopefuls to their current role as one of the most durable and treasured bands in British music, joined by a passionate and loyal following that has given them lasting success. Over the years, The Charlatans have notched 13 top 40 studio albums in the UK – three of them #1s – alongside 22 hit singles, four of which made the top 10. The rollercoaster highs have been accompanied by some shattering lows, any which one of them could have felled a less resilient band, from nervous breakdowns to near bankruptcy and the deaths of two founder members. Somehow, the band have not just carried on but adapted and transformed. The classic Charlatans sound – driving Hammond organ, Northern Soul and house-influenced rhythms, swaggering guitars and Tim Burgess’s sunny yet somehow yearning vocal – is instantly recognizable.

Hailed by PopMatters as “a certifiable classic,” Between 10th and 11th was originally released in 1992 and features such classic singles as “Tremolo Song,” “I Don’t Want To See The Sights,” and the band’s biggest US hit to date, “Weirdo.” More recently, The Charlatans celebrated their own 30th anniversary with 2021’s career-spanning best-of, A Head Full of Ideas, and a similarly titled 2021-22 world tour. In addition, frontman Tim Burgess has created the hugely popular Tim’s Twitter Listening Party, an ongoing series of real-time album playbacks via Twitter, featuring stories from bands and fans, rarely seen images, and exclusive insights and anecdotes from the artists who created some of music’s most iconic albums. His acclaimed new album, Typical Music, is out now.

ABOUT RIDE:

Shoegaze legends Ride floated out of Oxfordshire in 1988 with a primordial blaze of noise and a sound like scorched clouds. Their first four EPs affirmed them as an alternative sensation, with 1990’s full-length debut, Nowhere,  rising to the top 20 and proving Creation Records’ first major success story. 1992’s Going Blank Again rose even higher, reaching the top 5 on a celestial torrent of imagination like none other of its era. Two further albums followed before Ride decided to call it a day, their standing as leftfield sonic giants undiminished. Ride reformed in 2014, first with a series of top-billed festival sets (including Coachella and Primavera) and then followed by a full-scale reunion tour. 2017 saw the release of Weather Diaries, the band’s first new album in over 20 years. Ride’s sixth studio album, This Is Not A Safe Place, made a top 10 debut upon its August 2019 release, the band’s highest chart position in 25 years. A 2020 world tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of Nowhere was rescheduled to 2022, accompanied by the deluxe reissue of their early classic albums – including 4 EPsNowhere, and Going Blank Again – all available now via Wichita Recordings HERE.

"An upbeat, contemporary-rock approach [...] ['I Like The Rain'] recalls the soaring choruses of Sleater-Kinney between its fully rocking verses."
FLOOD Magazine

"Fans of her early output, beware: ‘Shadows’ is a different beast altogether. But listen with fresh ears and you’ll rediscover Tiffany, born again, with a fresh sound that’s both bold and brilliant…" - Retro Pop - The Music Magazine

"More than 30 years after introducing herself to fans, Tiffany may now be revealing her most authentic side as an artist."
Billboard

Tiffany has released her 11th studio album, Shadows, out now on DSPs and physical formats via Deko Entertainment. Today, she shares a music video for the track, "You're My Everything," just in time for the holidays as we all help to spread love and joy, while reflecting back on everything we've experienced this year.

Speaking on the track and its accompanying video, she wrote:

"This song is about continuing to open your heart and seek true love even though you’ve been hurt before. 'You're My Everything' is telling someone the truth of how you feel about them...but they may not commit or feel the same."

Tiffany - "You're My Everything" [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

Shadows — Tiffany's first new release since 2018's Piece Of Me — is described as a cathartic comeback LP on which Tiffany bares her soul and invites listeners to walk with her into the light. As Tiffany wrote: "Shadows is about the light and dark of my life, the heartbreak that nobody knows about, when you’re trying to be fabulous onstage. My life has never been perfect. But maybe all those things are meant to be. And what helps me more than anything is writing songs."

The LP includes 11 brand new songs, including single, "I Like The Rain," as well as stand-out tracks "You're My Everything," "Bed of Nails," and a rocking cover of the Rival Sons track "Keep On Swinging." It is being released in multiple formats, including Digital, CD, and Limited-Edition Pink and Black vinyl, with pop-up album artwork created by multidisciplinary British artist Stuart Semple. This is limited to 250 copies and comes with multiple Tiffany photo inserts, making this a one-of-a-kind collectible piece.

Stuart states, "It’s been really exciting to be able to make some new art with Tiffany. Her music was a big part of my childhood. The new record is amazing and I'm so glad to have been able to come up with a visual way to bring it to life. It feels like the whole project is an artwork in it's own right."

TOUR BEGINS APRIL 12 IN BOSTON

Last Friday, Brooklyn, NY-based indie pop duo Daisy the Great performed “Time Machine” for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s series, #LateShowMeMusic. The series kicks off the weekend by showcasing a new band on their social media accounts. The live performance is available now on The Late Show’s socials and YouTube here. Document Journal calls the song, “ the kind of soaring anthem that pierces through any cynicism, revealing whatever is soft, tender, and healing beneath.”

The performance celebrates a whirlwind North American tour with The Happy Fits that ended yesterday in Philadelphia. 2022 also saw the band play over a dozen festivals and release their sophomore album, ALL YOU NEED IS TIME, which Atwood Magazine calls, “a beautifully vulnerable, harmony-rich record that finds them shining bigger, bolder, and brighter than ever.”

The band is already gearing up for the new year by announcing a spring headline tour across the United States. See below for tour dates starting April 12 in Boston. For complete details and ticket availability, please visit www.daisythegreat.com.

ALL YOU NEED IS TIME has already crossed 60,000 album units in just 6 weeks with over 152 million global streams. It is available at all DSPs here. Perhaps unsurprisingly, TikTok and Instagram have long been sources of positive buzz for the band. Recently, the band has proven their ability to reach even wider audiences. With 2.4-million views and counting for the “Time Machine” music video on Facebook, their potent combination of lush music and entertaining visuals continues to find new fans organically online.

Bio:

As Daisy the Great, Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker make folk-inflected indie rock that spans a multitude of moods, capable of being clever, devastating, or both simultaneously, spanning harmony-laden pop to powerhouse balladry. The pair first met as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where they began co-writing a musical about a fictional band before realizing they could make it happen in real life and set out as Daisy the Great.

2017 saw Daisy the Great make an auspicious debut with “The Record Player Song,” which quickly proved an immediate smash with over 20M worldwide streams and multiple viral moments on TikTok. A full-length debut LP, I’m Not Getting Any Taller, arrived in 2019, followed in 2020 by the quarantine-born Soft Songs EP. In 2021, Daisy the Great teamed with acclaimed indie-pop trio AJR for “Record Player,” a brand new song inspired by their original 2017 hit, available at all DSPs and streaming services HERE. An official animated video now boasting over 3M views is streaming via YouTube HERE.

Having now grown into a full six-piece band currently featuring Matt Lau on guitar, Bernardo Ochoa on bass, Matti Dunietz on drums, and Brie Archer on additional vocals, Daisy the Great first heralded ALL YOU NEED IS TIME after releasing a string of songs with captivating visuals, including “Glitter”, “Cry in the Mirror,” “Aluminum,” , “Easy”, “Liar”, and “Time Machine.” In addition, an exclusive live performance for KCSN is available HERE.

After a full summer of shows and festivals, including Lollapalooza and Firefly, Daisy the Great released their sophomore album All You Need is Time in the fall of 2022. According to the band, “the record is about self-perception, love, growing up, patience, purpose, change.” Recorded in Brooklyn by rising producer/engineer Torna, with additional production from Gabe Goodman, the new record ”captures the dichotomy of feeling time slipping through your fingers while you’re waiting for your life to start.”

It’s a freeing thoughtfulness that defines Daisy the Great’s music, as well as their creative mission. “Our music is generally pretty introspective, and we are often interested in the complexities or ironies we see within ourselves” she states. “That’s something we love about writing—you can say something small and delicate and true that maybe feels scary to say, but once you put it out there, it can turn into a comfort for anyone that might also be feeling that way.” Their new album All You Need is Time, is out now.
