Comprehensive marketing and sales campaigns for The Bee Gees'illustrious catalogue to be conceived and executed by Capitol in conjunction with Universal Music Enterprises, Barry Gibb and estates of Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb

The Bee Gees, one of the world's most commercially successful and acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, has signed a long-term worldwide agreement with Capitol Records that encompasses the legendary trio's entire catalogue of recorded music, it was announced today by Capitol Music Group (CMG) Chairman and CEO Steve Barnett and Bee Gees founding member Barry Gibb. In addition to 22 studio albums and several soundtracks, including the mega-selling Saturday Night Fever, the agreement includes the rights to numerous compilation albums, unreleased recordings and long-form audiovisual projects.         Capitol, in conjunction with Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), Barry Gibband the estates of co-founding members Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb - will spearhead an array of comprehensive and forward-thinking sales and marketing campaigns designed to reinvigorate The Bee Gees' illustrious catalogue. As Steve Barnett explained, "The Bee Gees catalogue is one of the most esteemed and important bodies of work in the history of recorded music, and we are brimming with ideas that will remind fans of its brilliance and further the band's legacy by introducing their music to new audiences. Recording 22 studio albums and numerous soundtracks - including the monumentally-successful and best-selling soundtrack of all time, Saturday Night Fever - The Bee Gees infused popular culture with dozens of worldwide hit singles that featured their singular and highly-influential three-part harmonies. Laura Marling is pleased to announce full details of her sixth album with the unveiling of new video "Soothing."

 

Semper Femina will be released March 10th, 2017 on Laura's own label More Alarming Records via Kobalt Music Recordings. It was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Laura and US musician/producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Jim James).

 

Alongside the announcement of Semper Femina, comes Laura's directorial debut with the video for the first fruits of the record and the album's opening track, "Soothing." The inspiration for which was a series of vivid dreams Laura experienced whilst making the album.

 

Now 26 years of age, Semper Femina is Laura's sixth studio album in a little over nine years. It is a record that similarly addresses questions of how society views sexuality and gender but without seeking to provide definitive answers. It retains an openness to express and portray her own 'voyage' of self-discovery, but also to develop and learn as artist, performer, and as an individual over the course of her career.

 

A rich and enriching listen, Semper Femina is a typically mature and raw listen by one of our most talented and prolific young musicians of a generation.

 

Semper Femina was largely written out on the road, following the release of Laura's acclaimed album, Short Movie, in Spring 2015. Its loose lyrical thread strings together her keen, freshly observed take on womanhood, and what Laura describes as a particularly 'masculine time in her life'.

 

Laura Marling: 'I started out writing Semper Femina as if a man was writing about a woman, and then I thought; "it's not a man, it's me. I don't need to pretend it's a man to justify the intimacy, or the way I'm looking and feeling about women. It's me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them, and by proxy, towards myself'.

 

The announcement of Semper Femina follows the success of Laura's recent Podcast series,Reversal of the Muse. As an exploration of femininity in creativity, the collaborative project opened up an important conversation around whether the lack of feminine presence in the studio environment would ultimately make any difference at all to the creative outcome. With no pre-conceived expectations, Reversal Of The Muse was as much about the conversation created than expecting a conclusive answer. Guests included HAIM, Karen Elson, Vanessa Parr, Dolly Parton, Shura, and Emmylou Harris.

 Following the recent release of their striking new album Do Easy on Bella Union, Toronto twin sister duo Tasseomancy (formerly of Austra) have shared the alluring video for track “29 Palms”. Watch it here. Described by Tasseomancy’s Romy Lightman as: "An ode to all the women in waiting for their psychic plumage to arrive", the tracks rings anthemic in its delivery, resounding vocals echoing throughout rollicking synth lines and sensual saxophone.

The band elaborates further about the video: “The video for ‘29 Palms’ was created by our friend, the very talented visual artist Jesi Jordan, on one of her many worldwide adventures. To us, this song encapsulates so much: written for women; for artists and for any human who has ever felt themselves falling into nothingness while grasping at their own poetic string. Whether it be a loss of self, loss of another or an attempt to create meaning in what has so been recently confirmed to be an unjust and crazy-cruel world. Jesi's video is like a friend who calls us up on the phone early in the morning and gently reminds us that life is not elsewhere but is happening by the touch of our own hand in this very moment and that's all we've got.”

Tasseomancy will be play a short series of US dates in New York and California before heading to the UK in early 2017 to embark on a month-long tour supporting Andy Shauf.

Genesis P-Orridge and Kathy Acker believed William Burroughs to be a vibrant beam of clarity. P-Orridge—a disciple of Burroughs—referred to “The Discipline of D.E. as a smooth hand of magic”. Romy of Tasseomancy stumbled upon the Discipline of D.E. (Do Easy), a short story outlining a don't-bust-a-gut Buddhist philosophy and “like a gentle old cop making a soft arrest”, she was deeply touched and set out to find the easy way.

For the seasoned loners, stoners, and lackadaisically laid, Do Easy was written as a dead-beat anthem for a generation who was told that anything is possible after the possibility slows. Written in Toronto and Montreal, Do Easy was created as a lamp shade of hope and of soft survivalism. Serene, strange and magnetically sung, it honors its free thinking forbearers without being weighed down by them, creating immersive worlds of loving allusion. 

Soft synths and crystalline harmonies merge hypnotically on “Dead Can Dance and Neil Young”, an invitation to “fade into folk song”. If folk song is this, it’s folk of great idiosyncrasy, where vocoded chorales provide atmospheric shading and alto-saxophones drift like cigarette smoke from a David Lynch dream-film. Between the new age synth of “Claudine & Annie”, the ambient swoon of “29 Palms”, Kate Bush-like prog-psych of “Missoula” and gently lapping title-track, Do Easy plays like pop from a parallel world.

Sisters Sari and Romy Lightman are former members of queer cold-wave band, Austra. Channelling their former forays in psychedelic folk into a kind of lushly accessible, warmly experimental dream-pop along with

bandmates Johnny Spence and Evan Cartwright, they explore manipulated sounds, all with mood in mind. Assisted by friends Brodie West (alto-sax), Ryan Driver (flute) Simone Schmidt (voice of a young Neil Young) and Alex Cowan (Blue Hawaii) that exploration reaches full bloom on Do Easy, the sound of a band hitting their richly imagined, luxuriously executed stride. And, wealth of evocative references included, making it all sound easy.

Vancouver's Louise Burns is set to release her new album Young Mopes on February 3rd, 2017 via Light Organ Records. Burns created the album with co-producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Black Mountain). Today, Burns reveals her new single "Who's The Madman?"  Listen to the track here via Consequence Of Sound.

Shimmering and soulful one minute, gritty and glamorous the next, Young Mopes is Burns at her boldest and brightest - and also her most defiant and dangerous. She's revelling in her "fuck you" years, exhilarated by the freedom of turning 30, unhinged from expectation and obligation. Burns' dark pop goth heart, so clearly evident on 2011's Polaris Prize nominated Mellow Drama and 2013's Midnight Mass, is just one aspect of Young Mopes' gleaming kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and influences. Young Mopes also represents a few other milestones: this is the first album that Burns recorded with her band, guitarist Darcy Hancock and drummer Ryan Peters, both formerly of Ladyhawk.

Louise Burns is already a 20-year vet of the music industry and she's just 30 years old. She witnessed the heady last gasp of the majors in the late-'90s (Burns co-founded pop band Lillix at 11 and signed to Madonna's Maverick Records at 15), and was front and centre for Canada's indie renaissance. Now Burns is an in-demand collaborator (Gold & Youth), high-profile hired gun, an acclaimed solo musician, and multi-instrumentalist whose celebrated songwriting is equal parts grit and gloss. She's toured extensively, playing throughout Japan, China, Europe, and North America and is an engaged, dynamic artist, whose interests cannot be contained by hours in a day. Burns is also a freelance contributor and host on CBC's Radio 3, and a journalist whose writing appears on CBC Music, the Talkhouse and Westender.

Lou Barlow Shares New Video for "The Breeze," Apocalypse Fetish Out Now via Joyful Noise Recordings Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, the Folk Implosion) recently released his new EP,Apocalypse Fetish, via Joyful Noise Recordings. A follow-up to last year's Brace The Wave -- his first solo release in six years -- it features five new tracks recorded with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Now, Barlow has shared a video for EP opener "The Breeze," which pairs a tuned-down ukulele with soft, effortless vocals that lead to an impassioned chorus. You can watch the video where it premiered with FLOOD Magazine or via YouTube. Speaking on the new EP, Barlow says:   "Apocalypse Fetish is a 5 song extended play release from, me, Lou Barlow. The cover features a newborn child peering warily over the edge of her mother’s sling into 2016, the year that conspiracy theorists became experts and anger went [even more] mainstream. The song "Apocalypse Fetish" proposes that, perhaps, many of us have been disappointed that the end of the world has taken too long to come after we’ve spent most of our lives predicting it. And, perhaps, we’ve decided to take matters in our own hands and "bring it on" because, if it doesn’t come soon, then didn’t we all seem foolish talking about it all. the. time.  There are 4 other songs on the EP, none of which are political in nature but are similarly "fired up." The melodic inspirations for the record came from my day in the back stairways and basement of the enormous Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Dinosaur Jr. were there opening for Primus in August 2015.) I was alone and playing my ukulele in the cavernous spaces and tiled showers there. The unique reverberations brought the beginnings of these songs. The hall is reputed to be haunted and I’m not so sure it isn’t.  I wasn’t able to fully draw the songs out until I recorded, once again, with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton Massachusetts (May 2016.) I recorded my last full length record (Brace The Wave) there in 2015. I’m happy to consider this EP a follow up to that album, though, this time, every song is played on ukulele (strung with heavy strings and tuned much lower than a standard uke.) Actually, it sounds nothing like a ukulele. For all intents and purposes it is a 4-string acoustic guitar utilizing the strumming styles and lower toned soundscapes I’ve been pursuing since my first released ukulele recording: "Poledo" (on Dinosaur Jr’s 2nd LP You’re Living All Over Me.) Yes, I’ve been doing this for a long time.
