“A blend of doom, goth, shoegaze and post-punk that is moody, heady and instantly captivating… Deceptively earwormy and moreish.” - 8/10, Metal Hammer
"[An] entrancing combination of massive riffs and smoky, bewitching vocals" - FLOOD
"Their most expansive and haunting songs to date" - Punk News

Today Guelph, Ontario hell-raisers Bonnie Trash release their new album, ‘Mourning You’ via Hand Drawn Dracula. Alongside the album release, they have also shared a new video for "Poison Kiss".

'Mourning You' is, put bluntly, an album about death. Not death in the macabre, violent, or outrageous sense, but death as you or I might know it. A spectre lurking around the corner. Capricious, indiscriminate, and unexpected. Ordinary and all the more terrifying for it. Real. Fear in the eyes of a loved one about to die, and the fear in your eyes – staring back. This is sorrow not as a lingering bruise, but a gushing wound.

Bonnie Trash is the project of twin sisters Emmalia & Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, wedding post-punk’s steely-eyed austerity to goth rock’s brooding grandeur.
A lifelong project christened in 2017 with the release of ‘Ezzelini's Dead’, the band's debut EP which found the pair mining the Trevisan dialect and archaic Italian folklore of their heritage to grisly effect. Where their first full length, ‘Malocchio’ (2022), shrouded Bonnie Trash's nightmares in dusky dreamlike reverb, ‘Mourning You’ is vivid and immediate. Emboldened by the addition of Emma Howarth-Withers on bass and Dana Bellamy on drums – whose thunderous rhythms sharpened 2024's ‘My Love Remains the Same’ EP into a fine-edged blade – ‘Mourning You’ is less a post-mortem fantasia than a sudden, swift dagger to the heart.

Sarafina, the band's singer and lyricist, has described the album as being about "losing someone you love. It's about the horrors of grief, haunting you every day." Inspired, largely, by the passing of Nonna Maria – who provided interstitial narration across the band's early work – it's these intimate details which render the songs on ‘Mourning You' so devastating. The record explores love and grief as kindred spirits. Grief as love with nowhere to go. Love determined by the fear of its loss. A blood pact. A life for a life. The gnarled claw of remorse gripping you in twilight's terror.

Though inspired by the shocking iconography of horrorshows, slasher flicks, and psychological thrillers, Bonnie Trash turns cinematic tropes on their head. Rather than fashioning nightmares into reality, the band paints reality as a nightmare, rife with pain, suffering, and gothic theatre. Bonnie Trash understands that everyday atrocities haunt the periphery of our lives. A black cloud looming on the edge of our vision. Curses abound. You can't ward them off. You'd best make an unholy racket.

(February 28, 2025) - Fresh off of releasing their new EP last week, Paris Texas surprises with a second new project, They Left Me With A Gun. Serving as the second of two anthologies that began with last week’s They Left Me With The Sword, the new EP takes a different sonic approach than its predecessor. Where Sword followed a fluid, linear arc to its sound, Gun tears up that script, embracing harsher, experimental sounds across six unpredictable tracks. They Left Me With A Gun is accompanied by a second music video paired with the visual for They Left Me With The Sword, completing the story of these two anthology projects. Both music videos are co-written by Louie Pastel, Felix and Dan Streit, (Charli XCX, BROCKHAMPTON, A$AP Rocky), who also directed both EP visuals.

Both EPs were made in the months leading up to Paris Texas embarking on the biggest tour of their career. Louie and Felix are currently on the CHROMAKOPIA world tour with Tyler, The Creator and Lil Yachty, playing six sold out hometown shows at Crypto.com Arena in LA last week before touring up the East Coast. The tour will play shows across North America, The United Kingdom and Europe, and Australia & New Zealand in 2025.

They Left Me With The Sword and They Left Me With A Gun are spiritual sequels to the duo’s 2021 EP Red Hand Akimbo, which included fan-favorite single “girls like drugs”. Louie and Felix are ushering in the next phase of their ever-expanding visions for Paris Texas with these two anthologiesnarrated by a secret, eerily familiar voice. On both EPs, the duo took a more collaborative approach than their previous projects, with longtime friends and collaborators Billy Lemos and Dilip central to it coming together.

With the all-around world-building of their two early EPs Boy Anonymous and Red Hand Akimbo, Paris Texas cemented themselves as one of the most exciting new voices in music with MID AIR, which was critically lauded by the likes of Vulture, i-D, The FADER & more.

Listen to They Left Me With A Gun above, see more EP info and all remaining dates on the Chromakopia tour below, and keep an eye out for more from Paris Texas.

“‘Bad Larry’ recalls the majestic country-folk of the ’60s, much closer to the post-Slowdive project Mojave 3 than Slowdive themselves. There’s a sense of comfort and ease that crawls along with each dreamy refrain, blending the existential folklore of its subject with a kind of unbroken purity.” CONSEQUENCE

“Cloakroom are catchy one moment and morose the next, but they never let their heavy aura slip.” PASTE

“hooky melodies and propulsive drums” STEREOGUM

“Meddling in new wave and dream-pop, the band trades in their normally sludgy tempos for a quicker pace that calls to mind groups like DIIV and Wild Nothing.” UPROXX

“razor-sharp songwriting and lush atmospheres that nod to classic shoegaze, midwestern emo, 60s pop, and more.” CHICAGO READER

Indiana trio discuss their new album, 'Last Leg of the Human Table', writing shorter songs for shorter attention spans, no longer embarrassing their folks, and being champions like the '90s Bulls. Cam Lindsay's First Revival (Read the Interview)

Cloakroom’s latest studio album Last Leg of the Human Table arrives today via Closed Casket Activities, their debut for the label. Pop, shoegaze, doom, post-punk, folk only scratch the surface on Cloakroom’s shortest, yet most essential release to date. Each song showcases the trio’s genre-bending capabilities and seemingly vast array of influences; whether it be the sampling of the post-disco Detroit group Was (Not Was) or the lifted NASA recording of the humming of Saturn’s rings. Recorded in December of 2023 at Electrical Audio in Chicago and Rec Room Recording in Des Plaines, Illinois, engineer Zac Montez (Whirr, Turnover) aided in smoothing out the rough and turning up the quiet.

For Cloakroom the world of modernity is in polycrisis and America has lost its soul. Narrative fetishism is all too usual of a literary mechanism for Cloakroom. If you listen closely you can hear the concern; not just for the teetering social structure but for what it means to be human and the high cost of the human experience. Its title Last Leg of the Human Table may sound sardonic in its nature, but this group has always found some wonder in the scurrying chaos of modern life. In 37 minutes, the album imbues a sense of responsibility to the listener as if one leg were to falter, the whole table will fall.

Wavves launches Wavvy Supply Co. + shares new single

WAVVES LAUNCHES CANNABIS BRAND WAVVY SUPPLY CO.

SHARES NEW SONG “SO LONG” VIA GHOST RAMP

ANNOUNCES LOS ANGELES WILDFIRE BENEFIT SHOW

SHOP: WAVVY SUPPLY CO.

LISTEN: So Long

(February 28, 2025) - Without warning, Wavves makes their long-awaited return with “So Long” and news of a newly launched Cannabis brand Wavvy Supply Co. The band also announces a Los Angeles benefit show at Zebulon on March 16 to support victims of the Los Angeles County wildfires. Speaking on the creation of the brand they share: At Wavvy we envision a world where cannabis is not just a product, but an art. Made by artists for artists.

“So Long” comes via the band’s own label, Ghost Ramp, and is the first new Wavves song since 2021 when Nathan Williams returned to his childhood home of San Diego, CA to write his seventh album, Hideaway. Written in a small shed behind his parents’ house, the hideaway was also the place where he made some of his earliest albums, before he became known for his uncanny ability to write songs that sneered at the world while evoking pathos, sympathy, and a deep understanding of how sometimes we’re our own worst enemies, and that can be okay. This time Wavves got off the block and recorded at San Diego’s Jankey Studios with producer Aaron Rubin before finishing the song at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, TX.

A decade prior to this, Williams released King of the Beach an album that delivered on all of the promise that his first two homespun records Wavves and Wavvves captured. It’s an album that also catapulted the band to worldwide acclaim as one of the new darlings of indie rock. It was a cocky collection of pop-punk gems that brought fame so rapidly it also, in part, lead to a widely publicized on stage meltdown at Primavera Fest. Wavves recovered, as they always do, and eventually entered the major label system, where the band released two albums before Williams became disillusioned by the lack of creative agency available to him. In 2017, Williams self-released You’re Welcome on his label, Ghost Ramp before returning to Fat Possum (the home of his first three albums) for Hideaway

Fast forward to 2024, an older, wiser, and slightly less stoned Williams has again reunited with longtime bandmates Stephen Pope, Ross Traver, and Alex Gates for “So Long.” Always known for their raucous live performances, Wavves fans can rest assured that 2025 will deliver on the last few years of relative quiet with new music and more shows on the way.

In the meantime, stream “So Long”, catch the band at their next Los Angeles show on March 16, and shop Wavvy Supply Co. for all of your cannabis needs. They’ll be back soon.

Craig Finn has released “Bethany,” from his eagerly awaited new solo album Always Been. “Bethany” is the album opener and second song released ahead of the LP, arriving via Tamarac Recordings/Thirty Tigers on Friday, April 4. A visualizer is streaming now on YouTube. The album is available digitally as well as on CD, standard vinyl, and limited-edition colored vinyl. Pre-orders and pre-saves are available now. Pre-orders also include an option for Lousy With Ghosts, a limited-edition 92-page companion book that features 11 works of fiction by Craig Finn. These stores take place in the same universe as the record, giving deeper looks at the characters within.

"This was the first song I wrote that brought me into the world of this album,” says Finn. “It’s the first song I showed producer Adam Granduciel when we talked about making a record. It’s the first song we recorded. It’s the first song on the album, which feels right spiritually. It introduces the record’s main character, a guy who became a clergy person without having actual faith, and the aftermath of his fall from grace. When we got the take of this song, I knew we were on track to make something really cool. Adam’s guitar solo still gives me chills.”

Produced by GRAMMY® Award-winner Adam Granduciel (The War On Drugs) at his studio in Burbank, CA and mixed by 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Jonathan Low (Taylor Swift, The National, Hurray For The Riff Raff), Always Been features musical performances by Granduciel and other members of The War on Drugs, as well as guest vocals by Kathleen Edwards and Sam FenderAlways Been marks the sixth LP in a solo discography that sits alongside Finn’s finest work as frontman and vocalist of The Hold Steady.

I believe this to be the most narrative record I have made,” says Finn. “Most songs concern a protagonist who pursued a career as a clergyman despite a lack of faith. The record tells the story of his rise and fall and redemption, while also filling out the details of his travels and the world in which he lives. I am very proud of what we made, I hope you enjoy.”

Always Been was heralded last month with the album’s first single, “People Of Substance,” which Rolling Stone hailed as “vintage Finn in many ways, especially when it comes to the musician’s distinct vocal delivery and lyrics as he sings from the perspective of a flailing guy trying to make good, while also looking for excuses,” and noted that “the track bears the sprawling, shimmering sonic hallmarks of Always Been producer, Adam Granduciel of the War on Drugs (though not without a little bit of old punk grit).”

Finn will celebrate Always Been on a wide-ranging US tour as special guest supporting Bob Mould from April 1 at San Diego, CA’s Music Box through Milwaukee, WI’s Turner Hall. For complete details and ticket information, please visit craigfinn.net/tour.
