One of the most dynamic rock bands to emerge in the aughts, White Denim will release their hotly anticipated twelfth studio album aptly titled 12 this Friday, December 6 via Bella Union. The new collection takes a radical step into funk & garage rock and has already earned acclaim spanning Under The RadarRelixJambase and Northern Transmissions. with radio airplay at KCRW, WFMU, WRUW, WXPN, KUTX and more! Fans can also tune in to NPR Into Music podcast for their episode with James Petralli December 5. Today, the band shares the official video for final album preview track "We Can Move Along" which revels in Petralli’s belief in the possibility of love enduring in a nourishing long-term relationship. He shares, “The music for ‘We Can Move Along’ was written by Matt Young. I suspect he was referencing Bowie's last record and maybe In Rainbows when he was composing but I haven't really asked. I tried to serve the parts and add complimentary textures in my production and arrangement. I like the ambiguity in my lyric-it doesn't hide anything but also doesn't offer a clean resolution. To me this reflects life more accurately than is typical in a song.”

White Denim exploded out of Austin, Texas in ’08 with hyper-kinetic post-punk bangers and Petralli duly raced on through shifting line-ups and kaleidoscopic shades of soul, jazz and Southern rock, always with a feel of in-the-moment authenticity. Sonically and stylistically influenced by Nick Lowe, Jonathan Richman, Doug Sahm and Joe Jackson, 12 is the thrilling sound of Petralli vacating his low-tech comfort zone while documenting a turbulent and sometimes painful period for his family. As for so many musicians, the pandemic forced Petralli to radically rethink homelife and his creative process. Back in Austin, he and his partner Elaine were caring for her father, who passed in Spring ’21. After relocating to Los Angeles, he took on the role of home-schooling his kids, fitting in writing sessions when he could. With its yacht rock-esque uplifting melodies, the new collection is a direct response to some of these “turbulent times” refracted through the glass-half-full sunshine prism of Petralli’s worldview.

Bonnie Trash announce new album 'Mourning You', out Feb 28 on Hand Drawn Dracula. Single "Veil of Greed" online now.

BONNIE TRASH

- Announce new album ‘Mourning You’
- Out February 28th on Hand Drawn Dracula
- Share new single & video Veil of Greed
Today Guelph, Ontario hell-raisers Bonnie Trash announce details of their new album, ‘Mourning You’, which is set for release on February 28th on Hand Drawn Dracula. Along with the announcement they have shared the first single and video from the album, entitled Veil of Greed”.

‘Mourning You’ is, put bluntly, an album about death. Not death in the macabre, violent, or outrageous sense, but death as you or I might know it. A spectre lurking around the corner. Capricious, indiscriminate, and unexpected. Ordinary and all the more terrifying for it. Real. Fear in the eyes of a loved one about to die, and the fear in your eyes – staring back.

Bonnie Trash is the horrorgaze project of twin sisters Emmalia & Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, wedding post-punk's steely-eyed austerity to goth rock's brooding grandeur.

‘Mourning You’ finds Bonnie Trash embracing a newfound sense of urgency. A lifelong project christened in 2017 with the release of ‘Ezzelini's Dead’, the band's debut EP which found the pair mining the Trevisan dialect and archaic Italian folklore of their heritage to grisly effect. Where their first full length, ‘Malocchio’ (2022), shrouded Bonnie Trash's nightmares in dusky dreamlike reverb, ‘Mourning You’ is vivid and immediate. Emboldened by the addition of Emma Howarth-Withers on bass and Dana Bellamy on drums – whose thunderous rhythms sharpened 2024's ‘My Love Remains the Same’ EP into a fine-edged blade – ‘Mourning You’ is less a post-mortem fantasia than a sudden, swift dagger to the heart. This is sorrow not as a lingering bruise, but a gushing wound.

Bonnie Trash unveil their new project with this first single Veil of Greed”. Emmalia's gripping and unyielding guitar riff with all the icy malice of Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine introduces the urgency of the uncomfortably ordinary horror story that unfurls across the record. The song's gruesome imagery – feasting on hearts with rotten teeth – finds Sarafina worshipping at the altar of her agony. "I bow down before you and I know / You feed."

“When you lose the one you love so dearly, it’s a cut that’s so deep, it rips your heart out of your chest. You try to continue on, but you suffer and you bleed” the twins comment. “Grief is like an open wound that will never fully heal. It can consume you if you let it. Sometimes, it’s best to let it feed, allowing the pain to exist with the beautiful memories you hold close to your heart.”

Sarafina, the band's singer and lyricist, has described the album as being about "losing someone you love. It's about the horrors of grief, haunting you every day." Inspired, largely, by the passing of Nonna Maria – who provided interstitial narration across the band's early work – it's these intimate details which render the songs on ‘Mourning You' so devastating. The record explores love and grief as kindred spirits. Grief as love with nowhere to go. Love determined by the fear of its loss. A blood pact. A life for a life. The gnarled claw of remorse gripping you in twilight's terror.

Though inspired by the shocking iconography of horrorshows, slasher flicks, and psychological thrillers, Bonnie Trash turns cinematic tropes on their head. Rather than fashioning nightmares into reality, the band paints reality as a nightmare, rife with pain, suffering, and gothic theatre. Bonnie Trash understands that everyday atrocities haunt the periphery of our lives. A black cloud looming on the edge of our vision. Curses abound. You can't ward them off. You'd best make an unholy racket.

‘Mourning You’  is out February 28, 2025 on Hand Drawn Dracula. In mourning, all is lost.

‘Mourning You’ track list:
1. Grief
2. Veil of Greed - official video
3. My Love Remains the Same (Kisses Goodbye)
4. Hellmouth
5. Haunt Me (What Have You Become)
6. and in the end, I’ll wait for you
7. Poison Kiss

Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome Clears The Air

Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome Clears The Air

Los Angeles, California – Following a whirlwind week of anger, misinformation, speculation and misunderstandings surrounding the forthcoming Dead Boys album, guitarist and co-founder Cheetah Chrome is setting the record straight in an exclusive interview with PunkNews.org.

The new, yet-to-be-titled album, recorded alongside longtime friends and punk legends Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Clem Burke (Blondie), and James Williamson (the Stooges), has sparked a storm of controversy. At the center of the debate is the claim by a former touring band member that the album employs artificial intelligence (A.I.) to "bring back" the band’s iconic frontman Stiv Bators.

But, as Cheetah explains, “All I wanted to do was celebrate the days of CBGBs—when punk was punk.”

In his conversation with PunkNews publisher John Gentile, Cheetah addressed the issue head-on, stating:
“The time to stop A.I. was back in 1990! Nobody should have ever bought a cellphone. It’s been a component in society for like 30 years! You can adapt and use it in legitimate ways.”

And that’s exactly what Cheetah has done. He revealed the story behind the album’s use of technology:

“We [found] a song called ‘You Don’t Really Love Me.’ It’s Stiv’s last full song that sounds like a performance. It sounds like it’s a record. After that, there’s nothing. We used A.I. to restore Stiv’s vocals. We didn’t cut or paste or edit it. We only used A.I. to restore it and put it in the mix so you can hear it.

“I don’t want to just fake someone’s performance. I can’t have that.”

The integration of A.I. on this album has sparked comparisons to other groundbreaking moments in music history, such as the Mellotron replacing orchestras, the advent of sampling, and the rise of digital recording. As Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera puts it:

“The Dead Boys should be celebrated for making history as the first punk act to embrace A.I. Just like punk thrived on pissing off grown-ups, this move challenges the status quo.

“This isn’t about replacing the past—it’s about preserving it. It’s about honoring the chaotic, untamed legacy of a frontman who defined an era. For a band like the Dead Boys, who thrived on pushing boundaries, this is the ultimate act of rebellion. They’re using A.I. to do what punk has always done best: make people uncomfortable, start conversations, and create something unforgettable.

“When people are mad, it means you’re onto something. When they say, ‘That’s not real music,’ it means you’re pushing boundaries. That’s the spirit of rock ’n’ roll. That’s the ethos of punk—and it’s exactly what the Dead Boys have always believed. If you’re not making people uncomfortable, you’re not doing it right.”

And the Dead Boys? They’ve always done it right.

The band’s new album, scheduled for release in 2025, will crown a series of acclaimed archival releases showcasing their fiery legacy during 1977-78. These include electrifying live recordings from CBGBs in New York (the legendary “Dead Dolls” show) and San Francisco, as well as early sessions for their second LP, We Have Come For Your Children, and more.

Adding to the excitement, Cheetah Chrome has teamed up with modern punk icons 69 Eyes for a blistering new rendition of the Dead Boys’ classic anthem “Sonic Reducer,” available now on 7-inch vinyl and all streaming platforms.

PSYCH-SHOEGAZERS STRANGE LOT SHARE HAZY & HYPNOTIC NEW TRACK "IT'S ALWAYS YOU"

STRANGE LOT — the Austin-based band whose “Western-sun-scorched take on psych-rock” (KUTX) has garnered a local cult following — share a new track and music video today. Listen to “It’s Always You” here and watch the music video here.

It’s Always You” imbues STRANGE LOT’s signature, droning psychedelic sound with swirling shoegaze guitar, heavy garage percussion, and reverb that’s as dream-like as the lyrics singing through it. The track oozes with shades of Thee Oh Sees, Dungen, The Horrors, all coming together under one hazy rainbow.

The music video for “It’s Always You” takes all sound into consideration, as the visual effects — made by Tachyons+, the mind behind Tame Impala’s live visuals and the glitch effects for the latest Alien film — create a polychromatic world around the track.

Watch the music video for “It’s Always You,” directed by Stellina Stampouli, here.

Today’s single is pulled from an upcoming debut album that boasts some big-time collaborators: production from The Black Angels' Alex Maas, mixing from Spoon’s Jim Eno, and mastering from GRAMMY-winner Howie Weinberg who’s worked with Smashing Pumpkins, Prince, and Nirvana.

Earlier this year, ahead of a ripping Levitation Fest set and fresh from supporting The Boogarins throughout Texas, STRANGE LOT released a live session with more tracks from the album — watch it over at FLOOD here.

STRANGE LOT began as the bedroom project of singer/guitarist Dominic Mena in Phoenix before moving to Austin in 2019. The band has grown into the present lineup of Dominic Mena, Tim Lormor, bass guitarist Nate Hahn, and Jordan Fitzpatrick on synthesizer and guitar. They’ve opened for The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Kikagaku Moyo  a tidy collection of acts that triangulates their sound.

A note from Cat Clyde:

“This summer, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, I had the pleasure of performing at Rare Bird farm. Pulling into the property I was welcomed and held by the big hills and cool creek.  Farrah and Mitchell, owners and caretakers of the land had arranged for me to perform looking out into the big hills tucked into the open barn whilst the audience sat on blankets with tea, and dogs roamed and played.  We recorded the set as the sun fell behind the hills.

My time in Western North Carolina, driving through the winding roads and witnessing the beautiful forests, swimming in the rivers, and walking the trails held great beauty and magic for me.  There lives in this space a community that cultivates and calls in deep appreciation for sharing music and keeping Appalachian traditions alive.

Returning in autumn, I was able to witness the devastation and aftermath left over from Hurricane Helene.  The old river, and big winds destroying homes, buildings, roads, and anything else laid in the path.  The resilience and coming together of the community was inspiring after such destruction.  I wanted to share this recorded performance, captured in the Blue Ridge mountains to contribute to hurricane relief for the people and community of Western North Carolina.  I am grateful for my time spent there, and hope that the people of this beautiful area can continue to work with one another to rebuild and grow again.”

They have also provided tens of thousands of pounds of critical supplies like pet food, diapers, heaters, bedding, clothing, appliances, hygiene kits, cleaning supplies, PPE, and many other vital household items.
