SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 (New York, NY) — Elemental Music’s ongoing LP reissue series, the Motown Sound Collection, presents another trio of majestic titles from the Detroit label’s archives: The Jackson 5’Third Album (on red vinyl), The Supremes’ A Bit Of Liverpool (in its original mono format) and The Temptations’ Sky’s The Limit on October 18, 2024.

THE JACKSON 5’s Third Album
To be released on special red vinyl, The Third Album captures the Jackson Five at the pinnacle of their supersonic rise to stardom. Initially released in September 1970, it was the Jackson brothers’ third studio effort in less than a year. The album delivered the group’s fourth straight number #1 single with “I’ll Be There” while the record’s other single, “Mama’s Pearl” also cracked Billboard’s Top 5. The Third Album reached #4 on Billboard’s LP chart while topping the R&B Album Chart on Billboard and Cashbox. Among its 11 tracks are Smokey Robinson’s “The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage,” a cover of the Delfonics’ hit “Ready Or Not, Here I Come,” a rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and the semi-autobiographical “Goin’ Back To Indiana,” which was later the title of the Jackson 5’s 1971 ABC TV special. Leah Greenblatt gave the Third Album an A in Entertainment Weekly, while All Music Guide praised the album for reflecting “the unmistakable Motown sound.”

THE SUPREMES’ A Bit Of Liverpool
Released 60 years in October 1964, A Bit Of Liverpool finds the Supremes celebrating the worldwide phenomena of Beatlemania with Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard impressively reinterpreting a handful of Lennon-McCartney originals: “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “You Can’t Do That,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “A World Without Love," which was a hit for Peter & Gordon. The 11-track record also features Merseybeat-related tunes like “Because,” “House of the Rising Sun," and “Bits and Pieces”. The British Invasion bands were heavily influenced by American soul music so it’s fitting that this salute contains two tunes from the Motown world: the Berry Gordy Jr.-penned “Do You Love Me” (a hit for Brian Poole and the Tremeloes and the Dave Clark Five) and Smokey Robinson’s “You Really Got A Hold On Me” (covered on The Beatles’ Second Album). A top 10 success on Billboard’s R&B Chart, A Bit of Liverpool, which is being reissued in its original mono mix, was the sublime vocal group’s third studio album - and second one in 1964!

THE TEMPTATIONS’ Sky’s The Limit
This 1971 release marks a high point for the Hall of Fame group and a significant turning point. The album features one of their signature songs, “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” the Temptations’ third number-one hit. It also represents the final album featuring founding members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. While Kendricks handled lead vocals on most of the songs, the other Temptations (Dennis Edwards, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams, and Paul Williams) all have their time to shine. Sky’s The Limit, the band’s 14th studio effort, also showcases the marvelous talents of producer/songwriter Norman Whitfield, who expertly crafted a sound that incorporated psychedelic soul and sweet R&B balladry. Notable tracks include the ambitious anthem “Ungena Za Ulimwengu (Unite the World)" and the mind-blowing,12+ minute production of “Smiling Face Sometimes,” which the Undisputed Truth subsequently had a hit within a more condensed version.

These unforgettable Hitsville titles are part of a continuing series of long-playing vinyl reissues of crate digger favorites from the Motown Records catalog. All releases will replicate the ‘60s and ‘70s LPs’ bold sound and 12-by-12 full-color packaging. The Motown Sound Collection will continue with titles scheduled for release through early 2025.

Forthcoming titles include the mono versions of Four Tops, Marvin Gaye’s When I’m Alone I Cry, and Eddie Kendricks’ People…Hold On on November 15. December 13’s offerings are Gladys Knight & the Pips’ Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the One to Say Goodbye), The Temptations’ Solid Rock, and the Undisputed Truth’s album.

Founded in 2012, Elemental Music specializes in releasing newly discovered and out-of-print recordings, primarily jazz, blues, and soul. These recordings are meticulously curated and reissued with love.

About Cage The Elephant
Since forming in 2006, Cage The Elephant have quietly bloomed as one of this generation’s premier rock bands buoyed by uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. Thus far, they have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications, tallied 5 billion streams and counting, and notched twelve #1 records on Alternative Radio and 5 #1 records on Triple A Radio. The guys consecutively garnered two GRAMMY® Awards in the category of “Best Rock Album” for both Tell Me I’m Pretty [2015] and Social Cues [2019]. Of the latter, Entertainment Weekly raved, “The album’s introspection paired with its urgent energy make Cage The Elephant sound more passionate than ever.” In the meantime, their music has also surged through popular culture as “Cigarette Daydreams” graced the soundtrack of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 blockbuster video game, “Goodbye” appeared in The Summer I Turned Pretty, and “Trouble” powered a global campaign for Amazon Prime. Plus, they’re the rare force of nature who can inspire millions of TikTok creates or hold their own on stage and duet with Iggy Pop and Beck. The Kentucky-bred six-piece instinctually lean on their enduring bond as both musicians and friends to get through anything and everything. Together, the band members make sense of life’s unpredictability and uncertainty via music. Moments of elation might take the form of sticky hooks, swaggering rhythms, or upbeat guitars, while tense riffs and jittery grooves could give shape to feelings of anxiety, doubt, or instability. As such, the group fearlessly alchemize a season of tragedy and turbulence into the twelve tracks on their sixth full-length album, Neon Pill [RCA Records].

Heavy Moss, formed in late 2022, is a psych-pop quartet hailing from Geelong, Australia, featuring the seasoned line up of Lucas Harwood, Sam Ingles, Kyle Tickell and Bec Goring. With a unique blend of dynamic psychedelia and dreamy pop textures, the group is set to release their debut LP Dead Slow on November 22nd.

Today, Heavy Moss gives us the first taste of Dead Slow, sharing the single "Star" and it's lo-fi-sci-fi music video. The track draws you in with a mellow groove, weaving together keys and fuzzy guitar, before pouring into five minutes of lush, melodic dreampop. Nodding to Real Estate and My Morning Jacket along the way, the tune winds towards its cosmic instrumental outro.

Kyle Tickell recalls, "I left my wallet at my friends house in Berlin. So I rushed back to get it. On my way, the verse melody popped into my head, so I recorded it into my phone as I walked through the suburbs. It was just beamed down to me…"

"Star" is shared alongside a beautifully shot music video that mirrors the winding melodic trajectory, with the band hatching a conspiratorial plot to make contact with two black-eyed aliens by branding their patch of earth in the shape of a star. Written and directed by band member Kyle Tickell, he explains that the concept for the video "falls out of this need for something bigger that breaks the monotony, and the lengths people will go to do so, even if what’s around them is really quite okay." He elaborates, "Star’s lyrics are supposed to be a conversation between a couple. They are call/answer, where one person is content, and grounded, but the other wants more, with no plan on how to get it."

“When Heavy Moss approached me to shoot their music video, they had me at "crop circles"," says Brian Purnell, the video's director of photographer and editor. "What I loved about Kyle’s script was the characters and their motives he created for each band member.”

"Star" is out today on all DSPs. Dead Slow is due November 22nd via p(doom) records.

Heavy Moss Bio:

Heavy Moss formed in late 2022, when Lucas Harwood and Sam Ingles bumped into each other in their hometown of Geelong – a place they’d both recently moved back to. Years before in Melbourne, the two had played in the fuzzed-out ‘90s-inspired band Atolls. Reunited, with Harwood on keys and Ingles on drums, they began workshopping some of Harwood’s songs that didn’t quite fit with his other band, King Gizzard. Like that band, Heavy Moss found themselves mining psychedelic pop for inspiration, landing upon some references curiously missing from the Gizzard canon: Elton John, King Krule, Spacemen 3, and Drugdealer. Before long, the pair brought on Kyle Tickell on guitar and vocals (Sons et al) to expand their sound. Tickell brought along his own batch of dreampop gems, balancing out the frenetic British psych vibe of Harwood’s tunes. Bec Goring came in on bass (Hayley Mary, Courtney Marie Andrews) to fully round out their sound.

The band quickly recorded a couple of singles in each songwriter’s mode (Summa from Tickell and Morning Milk from Harwood); happy with the dynamic and sound, they divided up songwriting duties and dug in for album sessions at Gizzard HQ, committing live takes to tape on the fly. Eight tracks emerged from these sessions. The band added overdubs in their home studios, with Harwood and Stu Mackenzie mixing half the album while on the road. The other half was mixed remotely by Michael Badger, who mixed King Gizzard’s infamous “Nonagon Infinity”

The first single ‘Star’ draws the listener in with a mellow groove, driven by Rhodes keys and fuzzy lead guitar, before opening up into five minutes of lush, melodic dreampop. The track nods to Real Estate and My Morning Jacket along the way, winding towards its cosmic instrumental outro. The accompanying music video mirrors this trajectory, with the band hatching a conspiratorial plot to make contact with two black-eyed aliens by branding their patch of earth with the shape of a star.

Ece Era shares new "Sunny" single. Her debut album on 2MR, 'Bedside Tunes' is out Oct 25.

Ece Era releases new single “Sunny”

Her debut album Bedside Tunes on 2MR is out October 25

On her vibrant/mournful electronic debut, Turkish musician/filmmaker Ece Era challenges cultural ideologies, identity structures, and her difficult past with tracks crafted during introspective moments before sleep or upon waking.

Ece Era’s "Sunny" continues to explore themes of self-discovery and authentic emotion, even sampling vocals from her previous track, “Inner Feeling”. “Sunny” marks Ece Era's first foray into techno rumble bass, drawing inspiration from Squarepusher. “‘Sunny’ is about mindless positivity in the face of chaos, like turning a blind eye to the world’s atrocities. Instead of confronting harsh realities, people cling to a false sense of peace, ignoring the destruction around them. I had this image of someone turning up the volume on classical music while everything around them is burning. That’s what I often pictured while producing it,” she tells. Listen below.

Shedding years of conditioning to uncover our truest selves can be a lifelong journey. The behaviors and identity traits we adopt during our formative years become deeply ingrained, making the process of “finding yourself” fraught with challenges. With her debut album, Bedside Tunes, releasing on October 25 via Brooklyn-based indie label 2MR, electronic musician and filmmaker Ece Era (pronounced “edge-uh air-uh”) presents a body of work that seeks to reveal this inner self. Beyond the conditioning of her childhood and the culture of her home nation, Turkey, lies Ece Era’s “real persona.” Through her music, she expresses that abstract, authentic inner voice, speaking with honesty and truth.

Ece Era transforms her vocals, wrapping them in warm layers of electronica that oscillate between melancholy and optimism. This vocal alteration signifies her attempt to reinvent herself–a sonic remodeling that brings her closer to her essence. Bedside Tunes is rich with emotion, blending hazy moments with vibrant beats, all while offering an unpretentious, unfiltered glimpse into her psyche.

Developing a passion for both music and filmmaking, Ece Era–now based in Brussels–has found these two creative avenues to offer contrasting yet equally enriching opportunities. The blank sonic canvas of her musical explorations allows for emotional articulation and the reinvention of her identity. Music-making can be spontaneous and unstructured, requiring little planning and providing freedom of expression. In contrast, filmmaking is a more rigid process, necessitating a team, planning, and scheduling. Music, often an uncomplicated solo endeavour, enables her to channel her “feral child”–a term she uses to describe the part of her that was left unsupervised during her youth. This “feral child” also serves as the inspiration for Bedside Tunes

The title Bedside Tunes reflects the origin of most of Ece Era’s ideas, which came to her as she was about to sleep. She kept a laptop by her bedside to capture these raw inspirations immediately upon waking. Beyond her quest for self-discovery, Ece Era intentionally avoids strong influences or inspirations in her musicality. The album is driven by feeling rather than emulation or intellectualisation–less thinking, more expression. This approach is evident across all 9 tracks, which showcase a captivating depth and emotional resonance. Ece Era’s minimalist “studio” setup, consisting of only a laptop, a midi keyboard, and numerous plugins, further underscores the honest intention behind her album. This personal touch extends to the self-directed videos for her music, adding another layer of authenticity to her work.

Bedside Tunes follows her timeless 2022 debut EP, War On Innocence and latest singles /  official videos, "Inner Feeling", “Let Go” and “You Know What Goes Down” which were released earlier this year.
