Today, Beverly Glenn-Copeland has announced a set of North American tour dates where he’ll play live for the first time in several years. He’ll cover selections from his entire catalog and invite special guests along the way. Glenn-Copeland will kick off the tour with performances in Toronto on October 15th and Montreal on October 18th. Following the Canadian dates, he’ll hit MassMOCA and Knockdown Center in New York prior to wrapping the run in his hometown of Philadelphia on October 25th. Fans can purchase tickets this Friday, July 7th at 12PM EST. Full tour dates below and for more information visit https://beverlyglenncopeland.com/

Later this month, Beverly Glenn-Copeland will release his long-awaited new album, The Ones Ahead, due out July 28th via Transgressive. The Ones Ahead is Glenn-Copeland’s first studio LP in almost 20 years and the first since the extraordinary career renaissance triggered by the rediscovery of his now-classic Keyboard Fantasies album. Transgressive has also announced the reissue of Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s 2004 album Primal Prayer, out on CD and double vinyl on September 1st. The re-issues of two of Glenn’s early works will also be available next week - Beverly Copeland and Beverly Glenn-Copeland. Both originally released in the 70’s these two out of print works have become widely sought after by collectors. Revered as modern jazz-folk masterpieces, they have been remastered and re-cut for release by Guy Davie. Both works will be available on CD and Vinyl and out this Friday, July 7th. Fans can pre-order both Beverly Copeland and Beverly Glenn-Copeland now.

Glenn-Copeland began his musical career in the 1960s, when he studied classical singing at Montreal's McGill University and performed at Expo 67. A pair of self-titled, multi-genre albums released in the early '70s showcased his powerful voice and songwriting talent. In 1986, while living in rural Ontario, Glenn-Copeland taught himself to use digital synthesis and recorded the album that would ultimately alter the entire course of his career. At the time, he self-released Keyboard Fantasies via a 200-copy cassette run, selling just a handful while the rest waited in storage. In 2015, a Japanese record collector emailed Glenn-Copeland about selling the remainder; a new generation had unearthed his art. The music spread globally, and a few years later, in his 70s, Glenn-Copeland embarked on his first European tour to share his songs with live audiences, a journey captured in Posy Dixon's 2019 documentary Keyboard Fantasies.

Since Keyboard Fantasies’ rediscovery, a new generation of listeners and artists have embraced Glenn-Copeland's music. In 2021, he released the remix album Keyboard Fantasies Reimagined, which featured reimagined versions of the album's songs from contemporary visionaries such as Arca, Blood Orange, Julia Holter and Kelsey Lu. More recently, having been blown away after seeing him perform live in Stockholm, Romy from The xx sampled Glenn-Copeland on her new single “Enjoy Your Life”. As his work has spread its inspiration, Glenn-Copeland has continued to develop his own prismatic musical practice.

SIX FINGER SATELLITE’S NEWLY REMASTERED THE PIGEON IS THE MOST POPULAR BIRD IS AVAILABLE NOW WORLDWIDE ON CD/2XLP

SIX FINGER SATELLITE’S NEWLY REMASTERED THE PIGEON IS THE MOST POPULAR BIRD IS AVAILABLE NOW WORLDWIDE ON CD/2XLP

Sub Pop has released the 30th-anniversary edition of Six Finger Satellite’s The Pigeon Is the Most Popular Bird, the group’s underground classic and debut full-length from 1993, with a brand new, fully remastered CD and double-LP reissue.

Formed in 1990 in Providence, Rhode Island by J. Ryan (singer/keyboards), John MacLean (guitar), Peter Phillips (guitar), Chris Dixon (bass), and Rick Pelletier (drums), Six Finger Satellite quickly signed to Sub Pop and released the band’s first demo tape as the Weapon EP.

Following Weapon, Dixon left the group and was replaced by Kurt Niemand, and the band quickly jumped into making their debut full-length with Bob Weston (of Shellac, who later named a single The Bird Is the Most Popular Finger in honor of Six Finger Satellite). Released in 1993, The Pigeon Is the Most Popular Bird was the first release to truly capture the adventurous, biting spirit and sound of Six Finger Satellite.

The album is a landmark of noisy, distressing post-punk, drawing influence from Gang of Four, The Birthday Party, and Wire while adding a healthy dose of the band’s own, unique sonic antagonism. Amongst the brittle rock tracks, The Pigeon Is the Most Popular Bird has dashes of ahead-of-their-time keyboard and studio experiments that became more prominent on the band’s later albums, presaging LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records, and much of the early-2000s post-punk revival.

All Music offers this, “This is the band’s rawest record, featuring the least amount of studio gadgetry and manipulation. J. Ryan’s voice bears no effects or bizarrely buried/contorted trickery, sounding hoarse and anxious throughout. Nonetheless, it certainly sets the table for the band’s love of noise and lunacy, combined with a healthy splash of bizarre humor. Hardly any other indie band at the time was doing this.”

In 2008, Pitchfork rightly called The Pigeon Is the Most Popular Bird “one of the best noise-rock records of the ‘90s,” writing that “the transitions from silly to searing highlight Six Finger Satellite’s unpredictable and caustic approach… this was the first of several examples of them spurning underground trends, and their most exhilaratingly bitter pill to swallow.”

The Pigeon Is the Most Popular Bird, featuring a new cover design by Dare Matheson, is now available from Sub Pop. LP orders from megamart.subpop.com, select independent retailers in North America, and the UK and EU, will receive the limited Loser edition on Red and Blue vinyl.

JUNGLE

“The French duo the Blaze release music intermittently, and perhaps here is a reason. Its songs, which blend seismically intense house music and whooshing ambient soul, can have the feeling of intense physical and emotional exertion. They land heavy on the chest, nourishing and lulling.”

The New York Times

“’EYES’ is an effective reminder of cousins Guillaume and Jonathan Alric's ability to stitch a subtle feeling of melancholy into the kind of outsized house beats required to get your name into the big font on a festival poster.”

The FADER

(July 5, 2023) - Guillaume and Jonathan Aldric, cousins who together make up The Blaze, have made a career of pairing moving image with music to great emotional effect and in their latest turn at directing have taken album track “MADLY” and reinvented it as a 6 minute epic demonstrating the transformative power of live music, or more specifically, the rave. Having previously won the Film Craft Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Best Director at the Berlin Music Video Awards, and the Best International Dance Video UK MVA for previous music videos, The Blaze continue to execute at the highest level with their latest masterclass of a music video.

More so than any of their previous works, The Blaze’s latest album, JUNGLE, was inspired by their experiences performing to live audiences. Yet while they set out to create songs that would better translate to that setting, they managed to retain the introspective elements of their music that separate them from their peers. The result is an electronic album carried by visuals and melodies drunk on emotions. Perhaps nowhere on the album is this more apparent than in the propulsive euphoria of “MADLY”. JUNGLE also features singles such as "CLASH," "EYES," and "DREAMER," the latter of which earned praise from the New York Times describing it as “an alluring, dreamlike, lightly funky and lightly shimmering ode to spiritual seeking that comes with another of the group’s signature operatic videos that interrogate masculinity, community, isolation and love.”

The duo are in the midst of a massive run of shows which has seen them tour across Europe this Spring, perform at Coachella, New York City, and now continue with a packed summer of festivals before returning to North America for additional shows in September.

TASH SULTANA Announces ‘Sugar’ EP Set For August 11 Release, New Track And Video For “Bitter Lovers” Featuring BJ The Chicago Kid Out Today (July 5)

TASH SULTANA

ANNOUNCES ‘SUGAR’ EP OUT AUGUST 11

EPIC NEW TRACK AND VIDEO FOR

“BITTER LOVERS”

FEATURING BJ THE CHICAGO KID

SET FOR RELEASE JULY 5

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

TASH SULTANA--multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer-songwriter, engineer, and entrepreneur--is making waves with the announcement of their upcoming EP, SUGAR, set for release August 11 via their own label, Lonely Lands Records, and available for pre-order now here. Listen to “Bitter Lovers” here and watch the video here.

In advance of the EP, TASH has released a new track, "Bitter Lovers,” out July 5. The song--which follows two previous singles, “James Dean” and “New York”--takes a different turn with a collaboration featuring American soul R&B artist BJ The Chicago Kid. The song showcases their combined exceptional chemistry and creative synergy. The journey began when BJ shared a demo with Tash during their tour in September 2022.

TASH explains, "Pretty sure it's like any typical modern-day music collab. We had been following each other for a while cause I'm a fan of what he does, and lo and behold, one morning, I woke up, and there was a nice little message in my DM's from BJ saying, 'let's fucking do a track.' Now here we are."

TASH began working on the track in their own Lonely Lands Studio laying down the verse and chorus harmonies and flipping the ending with beat sampling, heavy basslines, and a sax solo. But the missing piece wasn’t filled until February 2023, with the final touches laid in person at a Los Angeles studio. BJ’s verse was crafted on the spot, and the harmonies were laid before the verse, an interesting approach to working almost completely backwards.

"It means something different to both of us, which is why we decided to split a verse each and come together in the chorus,’ TASH explains. “For me, some people just think you're going to be waiting around forever, in any capacity, for a friend, lover, or family member. I got boundaries with people, and that's what I'm getting at in this track.”

“This was one I had in the stash waiting for a good home, or I would use it myself,” BJ says. “So happy Tash loved it as much as myself. This one will only get better with time.”

SUGAR was co-engineered, produced, composed and arranged by TASH who played every single instrument on the EP. TASH--who withheld releasing any new projects for over two years--came into the EP with a refreshing perspective, described as a combination of past, present and future workings. The new release embodies their commitment to innovation and artistic exploration. Fans will hear this as a teaser of an “album cut in half.”

TASH reveals that the EP’s theme serves as a reflection piece, encapsulating their life from 2021 to 2023. It is a captivating storytelling experience incorporating cryptic wording and musical style, leaving the true message open to interpretation. TASH ensures that no one will ever fully discover the true meaning of the message.

TASH wrote the songs for the SUGAR in the comfort of their own home, studio, and mind, with their notebook serving as a creative companion throughout the journey. This intimate environment allowed TASH to explore their musical vision and fully bring it to life.

Fans of TASH can expect a mature approach in this EP, as it artfully blends sonics of past works NOTION, FLOW STATE and TERRA FIRMA. TASH skillfully weaves these elements together, imparting the lessons learned from the present moment. With their unique blend of musicality and introspection, TASH SULTANA will continue to captivate and inspire fans, delivering a transformative and deeply meaningful experience with their new EP.

Secret Smiles is a Los Angeles based rock band formed in 2022 by actor and musician Julian de la Celle. After recruiting the talents of Ann Seletos (drums), Ian Waters (guitar), and Zeh Monstro (bass), the band began to play around Los Angeles, their influences ranging from The Velvet Underground to The Gun Club to The White Stripes.

After a year of playing together, the band hit the studio with Starcrawler founder and guitarist Henri Cash to record a four-song EP.

Today, the band shares their debut single, "Stay Blue," the first track that songwriter Julian de la Celle finished in lockdown, which quickly became a fan favorite at live shows. The song was produced by Henri Cash, and engineered, mixed and mastered by Joey Oaxaca.

"When lockdown first started, I found myself being really inspired by Leonard Cohen’s Songs Of Love And Hate and Lee Hazelwood’s extensive discography," says frontman Julian de la Celle. "I spent a lot of time at my godfather’s rehearsal studio writing songs and recording demos and ‘Stay Blue’ was the first song that I finished."

On Wednesday August 30, Secret Smiles takes the stage with Acid Tongue and Dagger Polyester at Zebulon in Los Angeles, CA. Find more information and tickets HERE.

Stay tuned for more new music from Secret Smiles, coming soon.
