Diet Cig have shared a video for their single “Who Are You.” Directed by the band - Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman, the track is off their beloved and critically acclaimed album Do You Wonder About Me? (Frenchkiss Records). Rolling Stone said “Diet Cig reject lame apologies with ‘Who Are You?” further noting the “fuzzed-out earworm of a chorus.” Uproxx included it in their “Best New Indie Music This Week” column and Stereogum called it "fuzzy and chiming and sing-songy" Around the single’s release The New York Times took note of the band’s Alex Luciano’s vocals declaring, “the sweet clarity of her voice riding verses that seethe and rumble with a ferocity that harks back to the Who.” Diet Cig share “We had such a fun time getting to wiggle around on a stage again!! We built the whole set ourselves in a park down the street from our apartment, we loved getting to play with the goofy DIY aesthetic of children’s theater paired with the silly seriousness of an improvised, costumed dance.

Gara Lonning (who choreo’d our TikTok dance for the song in April) choreographed the ending number. it was really exciting to expand those moves into a whole new dance framed by homemade velvet curtains.” Watch “Who Are You” here:
Diet Cig - Who Are You (Official Music Video)
Diet Cig have been compared to tornadoes, firecrackers, and lightning storms, and described as genuine, unapologetic, and down-to-earth. Do You Wonder About Me? Is the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed Swear I’m Good At This. The new record marks a more intentional, self-assured Diet Cig; not only in Luciano’s radically intimate, acerbic lyrics, but in the duo’s sound as well. Luciano and Bowman moved to Richmond, VA in the summer of 2017 as a place to “hide out and make music,” and it was there that they wrote Do You Wonder About Me?, Diet Cig’s ode to growing up.

“'I will never hate myself/The way you want me to,' Alex Luciano informs her absent ex, with the sweet clarity of her voice riding verses that seethe and rumble with a ferocity that harks back to the Who. She’s airily polite — 'I’m thriving, thanks for asking' — but the music isn’t."
The New York Times on “Thriving”

"There’s certainly more shine on ‘Thriving’ than their previous LP. It’s a ringing, slightly campy ode to the dichotomy of seeking self-sufficiency and strength while simultaneously wanting someone else to acknowledge that you’re, well, thriving." Consequence of Sound

"Musically it’s a gleaming churn with guitars that remind me of a moment when indie rock was adjacent to post-hardcore, topped off by some of Alex Luciano’s most startlingly beautiful vocal melodies." Stereogum on “Thriving

"with their signature powerful guitar chords and crashing cymbals, ‘Night Terrors’ gives fans a look into the band’s new era." Uproxx (“Best Of The Week” inclusion)

“Quite a comeback...the real powerhouse of this track is the drums, which launch the atmosphere headlong into weightlessness...meek vulnerability in the daintiness and girlishness of the vocals add an irresistible sweetness.” Stereogum on “Night Terrors”

"It’s safe to say Paste is glad to see Diet Cig back in action..." Paste

"a zippy pop-punk anthem delivered earnestly with crisp power chords and solid melodies." Mxdwn on “Night Terrors”

"Diet Cig is the perfect dose of pop-punk. ‘Thriving’ is a song that puts all their principles front-and-center, from their dedication to crunching guitars to Luciano’s deceptively delicate vocals, which are a Diet Cig hallmark." Grimy Goods

"Diet Cig has always managed to present bite-sized nuggets of power pop that stick with you, but ‘Thriving’ is the band at their best." The Grey Estates

"The song perfectly displays the cohesion Diet Cig is known for while amplifying the punk duo’s ability to have fun with just about any subject matter." The Wild Honey Pie on “Night Terrors”

"The power of Diet Cig comes from the way Luciano and Bowman bolster these themes with affirming positivity in the form of delightful, explosive anthems." - NPR

"loud, blunt, and totally fun." - Under The Radar

"infectious indie-rock perfection" - NY Newsday

Arctic Monkeys - “Arabella” Track and Video Out Today, 'Arctic Monkeys – Live At The Royal Albert Hall' Out This Friday 12/4

In advance of the release of Arctic Monkeys – Live At The Royal Albert Hall on Friday, December 4, 2020, the band have launched the new video for AM’s “Arabella.” Directed by Ben Chappell, the video was predominantly filmed at the band’s ‘Nuits De Fourvière’ concert in Lyon in 2018 and features live and exclusive behind the scenes footage. Watch the video for “Arabella” HERE and stream the track HERE

All proceeds from Arctic Monkeys – Live At The Royal Albert Hall will go to War Child UK to help fill what could be up to a £2 million deficit they are facing in 2021, caused by the devastating impact of Covid-19 on their fundraising. These funds are urgently needed to support those who are worst hit by the virus.

On June 7, 2018 we played a very special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. All the proceeds from that memorable night were donated to War Child UK in support of the vital work they do protecting, educating and rehabilitating children who have experienced the trauma of conflict and the horror of war. The situation that was bad in 2018 is now desperate and those children and their families need our help more than ever. To enable War Child UK to reduce their funding deficit and continue their valuable work, we are happy to be able to release a live album, recorded that evening at The Royal Albert Hall. All proceeds will go direct to the charity. We thank all our fans in advance for their support of this release and in turn for their support of War Child UK” - Arctic Monkeys.

Recorded at the start of the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour, Arctic Monkeys -Live At The Royal Albert Hall, features 20 of the band’s finest moments to date. Watch the trailer HERE.

War Child UK is a specialist charity for children affected by conflict. They aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery – keeping them safe, helping them learn and cope with their experiences, and equipping them with skills for the future. They also offer counselling and psycho-social support to these vulnerable children via specialist helplines, and campaign for changes to policies and practices to support children in conflict, working with children and young people themselves to demand their rights.

Right now, the basic rights of children in war zones are hitting an all-time low – they need help now more than ever. Cramped conditions in refugee camps and displaced communities facilitate the spread of Covid-19, and the financial impacts on families with no safety net will mean millions could starve to death as the virus limits access to vital resources.

War Child UK are responding to the crisis by distributing hygiene kits, PPE and sanitation guidance to limit the spread of infection. They are also providing essential food packages to the hardest hit families, home education packs, lessons via WhatsApp and email as well as toys and books to children stuck in camps during lockdown so they can continue to learn and play.

Arctic Monkeys – Live At The Royal Albert Hall will be available on limited clear double vinyl, standard black double vinyl, double CD and digitally. The D2C clear vinyl format comes with an exclusive concert poster. You can pre-order the album via the webstore HERE and via other outlets HERE

Romy shares "Lifetime" remixes EP featuring Jayda G, Planningtorock, Anz and HAAi

ROMY UNVEILS “LIFETIME” REMIXES EP
DEBUTS JAYDA G BALEEN REMIX
REMIX EP FEATURES JAYDA G, PLANNINGTOROCK, ANZ AND HAAI
December 3, 2020—Today, RomyRomy Madley-Croft of The xx—unveils the “Lifetime” remixes EP and shares Jayda G's Baleen remix— listen and pre-order the 12” vinyl here. The remix EP features reworks of Romy’s debut solo track by an all-female and nonbinary cast of musicians, including PlanningtorockAnz and HAAi.
The original version of “Lifetime,” which Romy unveiled in September, received widespread critical appraise, with Vulture calling it a “revelation for Romy: huge and life-affirming, featuring some of her most confident singing ever, with lyrics that rise to the current moment...the perfect song to lose yourself in, especially now.” Additionally, Stereogum praised it as “an undeniable jam...a pure explosion of energy” and The FADER said, “The exuberance on Romy’s debut single feels hardachieved...vaulting toward ecstatic love.”
“I’m so excited to share four remixes of ‘Lifetime’ from four of my favourite producers right now, thank you so much Jayda G, HAAi, Anz and Planningtorock, you are all so talented and inspiring, I am so grateful for these remixes!” Romy says. “When I was making the song I dreamt about being in a club, celebrating with my friends, you have each transported me back there in such different and uniqueways, it’s amazing to hear! So excited for these to be out at last, dreaming of when we can be together listening to these in a club ðŸ’–.
“I have been a fan of Romy since The xx’s first album back in 2009,” Jayda G says. “To be part of this remix project for her first solo track is a dream come true and a honor. And the track bangs so was pumped to work on it!”
“I’m so proud of this remix I made for my dear friend Romy,” Planningtorock says. “Think it’s one of the best I’ve ever made! It was so much fun re pitching Romy’s gorgeous husky vocals to make this new melody and transform the song into a queer dance floor stomper. Also really love Romy’s message on this track and wanted to take that already uplifting feeling and lift it higher. We’ve been listening and dancing to this remix loads and I hope you will enjoy it too💜”
“Romy first played me ‘Lifetime’ on the way back from the studio one day,” HAAi says. “I loved it so much I asked her to play it again right away. I wanted to keep the energy and feeling of euphoria that the track had and to give her vocals the space to just exist. I can’t wait to play this in a sunny field with lots of people.”
“As a longstanding Romy fan it was such a joy to work on this remix,” Anz says. “When she shared the stems, I listened to her lyrics in isolation a few times and thought about what the words meant to me. The idea of being beside each other after such a secluded year brought about these really melancholic pangs for togetherness, and so I built the remix for just that. A time where we can all be shoulder to shoulder in dark rooms and at sunrises, dancing through melancholy and finding our feet again.”
“Lifetime” combines Romy's love of yearning, emotional club music with timeless songwriting. Having co-written her band The xx’s three acclaimed albums, she’s also written songs for Mark RonsonJehnny Bethbenny blanco and Dua Lipa (including her Grammy-winning hit single “Electricity” with Ronson and Diplo’s Silk City), among others.
At the same time as honing her craft as a songwriter, Romy has embraced a burgeoning DJ career. DJing since the age of 17 (when she got her first job playing records at a gay club in Soho), the last twelve months have seen her passion reignited, with appearances at Manchester’s Homobloc, Turin’s Club to Club and a closing set at this year’s Pride Inside for Amnesty. She was also a key contributor to 2019’s BBC Radio 1 Residency series.
In an intimate Instagram performance earlier this year, Romy hinted at more music to come inspired by club classics, Ibiza house and trance.

THE NEW YEAR’S EVE SHOW WILL BE ALSO BROADCAST ON TV BY OREGON PUBLIC BROADCASTING, AND ON RADIO NATIONWIDE ON NPR’S “TOAST OF THE NATION”
Pink Martini 2020 Holiday Concerts Official Trailer
Pink Martini, Portland, Oregon’s globetrotting, self-described “little orchestra,” has just announced and put on sale their first ever streaming concerts, “Home for the Holidays,” to debut December 17, and “Good Riddance 2020,” to debut December 31. Both programs were filmed at the band’s World Headquarters in downtown Portland, in front of the band’s 35-foot Christmas tree.

Long associated with the holidays, Pink Martini has toured every December for well over a decade in support of their fifth album, Joy to the World, a non-denominational holiday classic which features music from around the globe. The band also performs two sold out concerts every New Year’s Eve, alternating between Arlene Schnitzer Hall in downtown Portland, and Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles. And the band’s NPR produced special Joy to the World: A Holiday Spectacular, hosted by All Things Considered host (and frequent Pink Martini collaborator) Ari Shapiro, has been syndicated by public radio stations around the US since its debut in 2015. With the band on long-term hiatus due to the global pandemic, it was important to bandleader Thomas Lauderdale to find a new way to bring some holiday joy to the band’s global fanbase. “I love the holidays and all of the music that goes with the season,” says Lauderdale. “Our goal has always been to make inclusive holiday music that can be played anywhere in the world. And this year we’re bringing that spirit right into your living rooms.”

Pink Martini is partnering with online concert presenter OurConcerts.Live to bring both concerts directly to fans on their TVs, computers and phones. Though the shows are recorded in advance, members of the band will be on hand live for chat and commentary during each concert’s debut broadcast, and the shows will also be available to ticket-buyers to stream for a limited time after each premiere, for those fans who need a more flexible viewing schedule. The concert goes on sale Thursday, Dec. 3, individually and as a two-concert package, at OurConcerts.Live/pinkmartini. Student, Senior, and Fan Club discounts are available.

In addition, the band is thrilled to announce that they are partnering with Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) and NPR to allow even more fans across the US to enjoy their New Year’s concert. OPB will televise an hour-long version of the New Year’s Eve concert— accessible to all in the region — on OPB-TV on Thursday December 31 at 9:30pm PST, and NPR will air a 60-minute audio version of the concert as part of their venerable annual Toast of the Nation broadcast, hosted by Christian McBride and featuring New Year’s Eve concerts from around the country. Pink Martini has had multiple previous New Year’s Eve performances from Disney Hall in Los Angeles aired on Toast of the Nation in the past.

These brand new concerts feature holiday classics new and old, alongside fan favorite Pink Martini songs. Bandleader Thomas Lauderdale will anchor the concerts from the piano, with lead singer China Forbes at the microphone. Additional special guests appearing on one or both concerts include co-lead singer Storm Large, NPR’s Ari Shapiro, regular guest vocalists Edna Vazquez and Jimmie Herrod, and Sofia von Trapp, and Cantor Ida Rae Cahana.

The New York Times has called lead singer China Forbes “an unpretentious, pitch-perfect chanteuse” and Variety states, “impressive at every musician’s station, this ensemble produces music that’s charming and elegant.” The Washington Post notes, "this is rich, hugely approachable music, utterly cosmopolitan yet utterly unpretentious. And it seems to speak to just about everybody.”

In 1994 Lauderdale had finished college and returned to his hometown of Portland, OR. He was working at City Hall with an eye towards running for office. Being a classically trained pianist, music was always in the background, and he formed his “little orchestra” Pink Martini as a means to provide music for political fundraisers for progressive causes near to his heart - including civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, and public broadcasting. China Forbes, Lauderdale’s friend from their college days at Harvard, joined the group the following year, and the first song they wrote together, “Sympathique” (Je ne veus pas travailler), became an overnight sensation in France, where it remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” translates to “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers. Politics continues to be a focal point for the band, as both Lauderdale and Pink Martini lend their voice to progressive causes.

Throughout their history, on record and live in concert, Pink Martini has featured a dozen musicians with songs in 25 languages, and they perform their multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout the world. Pink Martini’s albums have collectively sold over 3 million copies worldwide, all on the band’s own label, Heinz Records.
