COP International—the label home of Stabbing WestwardDeathline International and Suicide Queen—today announces its newest release, the 5-song EP Away from industrial-electronic act Chiasm. The project of Detroit-based musician Emileigh RohnChiasm has become known for cultivating lush, eclectic, eerily dystopian sonic landscapes with delicately balanced vocals for the past 20-plus years.

The Away EP, led by the title track single (listen here, in the “releases” section), features writing and musicianship from collaborator John Fryer (Black Needle Noise), the noted producer whose credits include Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, 4AD, Cocteau Twins and Love and Rockets. The EP comes in advance of Chiasm’s full-length album, Missed The Noise, to be released later this year.

“The COP team, along with John Fryer, really knew what I needed. It was absolutely a new adventure. This EP is much more accessible than previous works because we made it so quickly (John moves fast!) so there wasn’t a lot of room for total introspection and intense analysis, which is unusual for me. John makes everything sound beautiful, and I’m so eager for everyone to hear it,” says Rohn. “I also need to acknowledge my home team, including the cats, for the inspiration and encouragement.”

(Away EP)

The Away EP follows a long line of notable releases from Chiasm (established in 1997), including the 2001 album Disorder with the track “Isolated” that was featured in the television show NCIS as well as in the Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines computer game. Rohn has also collaborated with genre stars Attrition, Carphax Files, Jean-Marc Lederman, Third Realm, :10:, and Acclimate.

All of Rohn’s previous releases had been self-written, programmed, performed and produced in her Michigan studio known as the MausHaus. The music, and the project name (which refers to the optic chiasm, a crossing of optic neurons in the brain that allow people to have continuous and peripheral vision), are in dedication to her full-time career in the field of science.

Here is what the press has had to say about Chiasm:

"Emileigh Rohn's voice is somewhere between Bjork and kaRIN of Collide—soothing in sound and yet jarring in message” — Outburn Magazine

"What Kate Bush is to pop culture, Chiasm is to electronic music" — Zillo

"The often dismal character of the Motor City is known for inspiring a host of instrumental techno artists, but Chiasm (Emileigh Rohn) chooses to express her angst through very intimate and intense audio exorcisms
that juxtapose her ethereal, haunting vocals and confrontational snarls with murky, minimalist industrial sounds. … An audio diary full of electro energy and honest emotion that gives the idea of 'girl power' a whole new spin" — CMJ

"Emileigh Rohn's music is one of the often overlooked treasures of the dark electro/industrial genre"— LiarSociety

“Release day for technicolor has arrived. We know things are tense and obviously we had no idea that the world would look like this right now, but we hope that this music can uplift and be a little source of comfort and healing. This album has been a total labor of love, and we hope these songs add some color to your days.”

June 5, 2020 - SAN FRANCISCO – Covet’s sophomore album, technicolor, an album that “sparkles with the wonder of creativity” (Exclaim) and solidifies guitar player Yvette Young as “a bona fide modern-day guitar hero” (Guitar World), is available now via Triple Crown Records (https://smarturl.it/covetband).

“When you listen to technicolor, I want you to be transported elsewhere,” says Young about the 10-song album. “My goal is to uplift and make you feel reflective of emotions and experience a whole spectrum.”

“I second that,” adds bass player David Adamiak. “For us, technicolor was a diverse statement. I hope listeners see there are so many facets to this collective and our songwriting. Maybe they’ll join us on the trip.”

Technicolor includes two songs with vocals from Young: “parachute” (https://youtu.be/V-lpxJA-AjA) and “farewell,” a first for the band who have become well-known for their joyously tuneful instrumental tracks. Young said of the band’s decision to include vocals: “My whole rule for writing is to never rule anything out, as long as it serves the music.”

The album is available now via brick & mortar retailers, as well as through the Triple Crown Records webstore and digital service providers (https://smarturl.it/covetband). Two of the vinyl variants have already sold out with a purple variant remaining. A highly-limited (300 copies) transparent teal with orange splatter version has been made available via Record Store Day (https://recordstoreday.com/UPC/646920324101).

Covet is David Adamiak (bass), Forrest Rice (drums) and Yvette Young (guitar/vocals). The band’s debut release, the 2015 EP Currents, cultivated a fluid style and faithful fanbase. The San Francisco-based band’s 2018 full-length debut, effloresce, elevated them to a new strata altogether. Powered by audience favorites such as “shibuya” [feat. San Holo] and “sea dragon” [feat. Mario Camarena], the record has cumulatively tallied over 10 million total streams to date - unprecedented for a primarily instrumental act. “The band’s music has some parallels with the classical-jazz fusion of Japanese pianist Hiromi,” said The Chicago Reader in a 2019 feature, continuing “but because front woman and guitarist Yvette Young provides its foundation with her intricate, liquid strings of notes, it has a welcome rock edge.” Gear Gods said upon the release of effloresce, “all three of these talented musicians form what is an incredibly musical, lush, and thoughtful sound,” while Brooklyn Vegan noted the band’s knack for writing “sugar sweet melodies.”

Swedish synth act Kite are made up of singer Nicklas Stenemo and keyboard player Christian Berg. The pair combine an adventurous nature with pop sensibilities, throbbing beats and an early nineties aesthetic.

Their lean approach to songwriting – a methodology of ‘cut the fat’ results in tight, focussed songs that never outstay their welcome. Produced together with Blanck Mass (Benjamin John Power), new single ‘Teenage Bliss’ has shades of New Order, Chairlift and Superorganism. It conjures up mental images of half-remembered nights out, sweat soaked gigs with friends and the naivety of first experiences.

The pair tell us that “When we started Kite the band F*** Buttons were a big source of inspiration to us. Since then we have been following Benjamin John Powers brilliant music as Blanck Mass. We are now extremely excited to announce that we are working on the production of two new Kite tracks with him.”

The band have brought their projection filled, brain melting visual live show to audiences in Scandinavia, Germany, the US, Canada and China. It sometimes even includes cats shooting laser beams out of their eyes, and when their performing their sold our show’s at Stockholm’s Royal Opera House – a 16-piece orchestra.

‘Teenage Bliss’ will be available to stream from June 4th, 2020.

Sondre Lerche Releases New Album 'Patience'

Sondre Lerche Releases New Album Patience
Painting by: Loribelle Spirovski / Download hi-res album art here.
June 5, 2020: Today, the Los Angeles-based, Norwegian-born singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche released his ninth studio album Patience. After living in New York City for over a decade, the album is his first since relocating to the west coast. Recorded mostly in Norway, the inspiration for this record comes from a recently discovered love of ambient music, running marathons and a quest for serenity.
In conjunction with Bandcamp once again waiving their share of sales today, 50% of all album sales from Patience will be donated to WP4BL (White People 4 Black Lives), an organization working in solidarity and coalition with Black Lives Matter Los Angeles in order to build power to challenge dominant institutions, shift racist policies, and create community-based alternatives to harmful systems as part of a global movement of grassroots organizations.
Listen to Patience via all streaming services:
PopMatters said, "Taken as a whole, PleasePleasure, and Patience represent Lerche's finest work as a musician." Frontrunner Magazine said, "Lerche blurs the stylistic lines between casual alt-pop, jazz and classic orchestra music. The album manages to be both expansive and spacious, leaving room for the foundation of the songwriting to shine."
Recently, Lerche released the fan-sourced official video for "That's All There Is." Paste said, "The bittersweetness is musically palpable; the track is bouncy and full of colorful synths, but everything is covered in a nostalgic haze," while Stereogum said the song "...reminds us how adaptable and exploratory Lerche has been over the course of two decades.
Patience is the follow-up and spiritual companion to 2017’s Pleasure and 2014’s Please. Like his previous albums, Lerche continues to work with core collaborators including percussionist Dave Heilman, bassist Chris Holm, keyboardist Alexander von Mehren, and producers Kato Ã…dland and Matias Tellez. The album also reunites Lerche with mixing engineer Jørgen Træen and world-renowned classical violinist, composer, and arranger Tim Fain, as well as introducing an unexpected but winning team-up with Van Dyke Parks on "Put The Camera Down." Stereogum recently called Patience "an appropriate title for a moment in history when basically the entire human population is being forced to sit and wait."
"The inspiration behind the theme and feeling of the album comes from the sense of space and time I associate with ambient music and minimalism. Ever since Pleasure came out in 2017, I’ve been running a lot, and I listen to mainly abstract music that helps me lose sense of time and structure when I run, what I refer to as 'patient music,'" Lerche explains. "Performing the flamboyant and intense Pleasure show 140 times in one year got me into athleticism, and made me passionate about running. Before this, I never did anything remotely athletic in my life. After Pleasure I felt like slowing down everything in my life. I stopped touring for the first time since I was 18. I moved to LA, and I just focused on writing. I needed to make soothing music."
Sondre's Patience Hotline is now live. Text or call him at +1 (310) 388-9880 to join to community or visit my.community.com/sondrelerche.

Over 90 musicians join forces for compilation album benefitting Black Lives Matter

BANK ROBBER MUSIC AND ROUGH TRADE PUBLISHING ANNOUNCE
TALK - ACTION = ZERO

A COMPILATION ALBUM BENEFITTING BLACK VISIONS COLLECTIVE

 COMPILATION FEATURES OVER 90 ARTISTS

INCLUDES A MULTITUDE OF RARE AND UNRELEASED
ORIGINALS AND COVERS

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY ON BANDCAMP ON FRIDAY JUNE 5,
WHEN BANDCAMP WAIVES ALL FEES
Independent artists from around the world have come together to create Talk - Action = Zero: a compilation album that pays tribute to the countless Black Americans who have been murdered due to police brutality. Talk - Action = Zero will be released Friday, June 5th exclusively on Bandcamp. The album was curated by Bank Robber Music and Rough Trade Publishing in just a few days, and all proceeds will benefit Black Visions Collective.

The complication was created in reaction to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and the countless other acts of violence against Black people that happen every day due to systemic racism, white supremacy and police brutality. The album features over 90 songs, including previously unreleased music from Phantogram, Jesse Malin, Jay Watts, Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, Bartees Strange, Lonemoon, Rogue Wave, and Crashing Hotels, as well as contributions from Nick Andre, Worriers, Lateef The Truth Speaker, Sulene, Superchunk, and Damon & Naomi, as well as featured demos, vintage cuts and live recordings.

All proceeds will benefit Black Visions Collective, a Black run organization based in Minnesota that aims to develop Minnesota's emerging Black leadership, heal the Black community through justice, support the local LGBTQA community, organize powerful, strategic campaigns and build movements from the ground up. Black Visions Collective also hosts talks, art exhibitions and celebrations to boost the voices of Black and LGBTQA people and build a larger sense of community in Minnesota. For more information about Black Visions Collective, visit blackvisionsmn.org/.

Emily Roman of Bank Robber Music states “We as a small company have always been committed to our artist community, but it would be a disservice to not recognize that the music we love and the roster of artists we represent are influenced by Black culture. The artist and the Black community are in the midst of changing times. We wanted to use our platform to amplify the two communities that allow us to do what we love every day in this industry. We are extremely grateful for all the artists we work with who quickly mobilized to be a part of this benefit compilation; We are here for our artists, and we stand with Black Lives Matter. This is the time to dive in, dig deep and take action.”

It took less than a week for the compilation to come together, from inception to completion, based on the eagerness of so many artists to contribute to take action by making a unified statement against white supremacy, racism and police brutality while actively raising funds for a pro-Black organization. The track list is comprised mostly of artists who work directly with Bank Robber Music and Rough Trade Publishing. The compilation will be available exclusively through Bandcamp and will be launch on Friday, June 5, when Bandcamp will be waiving their fees on all sales on, and will reduced their fee moving forward in order to maximize the amount of funds raised for Black Visions Collective.

Nick Lowe Releases New EP Lay It On Me Today Via Yep Roc Records

Lowe’s Third Collaborative Release With Los Straitjackets Features Two New Original Songs And His First Production Credit For Another Artist In 25 Years
Yep Roc Records has released Nick Lowe’s Lay It On Me EP today, the latest collaboration between the "master songwriter who never takes himself too seriously" (Rolling Stone) and Los Straitjackets, America's beloved masked men of surf-and-spy guitar instrumentals. The collection includes two brand-new Lowe originals, “Lay It On Me Baby” - written for “Turk Collins,” a fictitious down-bill 60s troubadour that Lowe conjured from whole cloth - and “Don’t Be Nice To Me,” which has been hailed by Rolling Stone as a “breezy summer stunner.” Elsewhere, Lay It On Me features Lowe and Los Straitjackets covering the Dorsey Burnette-penned Brenda Lee hit “Here Comes That Feeling,” as well as Lowe’s first production credit for another artist in 25 years on the Straitjackets’ stinging cover of the Shocking Blue’s “Venus.”
Listen to Lay It On Me digitally and pre-order it on vinyl (available July 17): https://ffm.to/layitonmebaby
In advance of Lay It On Me, Nick Lowe invited Rolling Stone into his London home for an In My Room session, where he performed “Lay It On Me Baby” - with son Roy on drums - from the new EP among a selection of favorites from his illustrious career. Lowe also sat down with the Washington Post on Instagram for a career-spanning chat and remote performance, in addition to an appearance on the Broken Record podcast. The Associated Press has remarked that Lay It On Me contains the elements “that’ve long endeared Lowe to music fans over his more than 40-year career” and the AV Club added the EP is “a welcome reminder that there are still summer afternoons on the horizon.”
At the age of 71, Nick Lowe continues to accrue many of the honors that become a legend most. In 2019, he was the subject of an acclaimed biography by Will Birch,Cruel To Be Kind: The Life and Music of Nick Lowe, named one of the best music books of the year by Pitchfork. And in January, he accepted the Trailblazer Award at the Americana UK Awards in London, joining esteemed previous recipients Mumford & Sons and Billy Bragg.

STRAND OF OAKS - 'AMBIENT FOR CHANGE' - LISTEN

STRAND OF OAKS
RELEASES AMBIENT ALBUM
EXCLUSIVELY ON BANDCAMP
ALL PROCEEDS GO TO NAACP LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

Today, Strand of Oaks (Timothy Showalter) returns with a surprise release of ambient works. The album, aptly titled Ambient for Change, is out now exclusively on Bandcamp. Listen to Ambient for Change HERE.

“I wrote these five songs in the midst of heartbreak for the tragic events in our country. The one outlet that I have is music and the ability to create with the intention of helping. I improvised these songs to try and give language to the overwhelming emotion I was feeling and to try in a small way to lend my voice of support. I've spent a lot of my life talking and singing but there are no words on this record. Making these songs helped me be still and contemplate how I can be a better more loving person and stand against injustice and inequality. I hope that these songs bring peace but at the same time I hope that they can also provide a safe space for meditation and reflection on ways that we can all help be there for one another. All proceeds from this recording will be going to NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Black Lives Matter

Much Love,
Tim - Strand of Oaks”
