MAY 1, 2019 (LOS ANGELES, CA) – California-based duo slenderbodies share their new song “dewdrops” today via tastemaker indie label Avant Garden and announce The Komorebi headlining tour (see full routing below) which kicks off on September 27 in San Francisco making stops in Chicago, New York, Atlanta to name a few and wrapping on October 23 in Los Angeles. They will also be performing at a few festivals this summer including Lollapalooza. “dewdrops,” the first release from their forthcoming debut album is groovy and melancholic embodying the signature sound that slenderbodies has stamped and made their own.  On the new song, slenderbodies states, "'dewdrops' is a surreal take on our creative spaces and how they hold a place of sanctity in our lives. this track is the introverts muse, essentially normalizing and validating the need to hide away in order to create.  the song came from a brief moment of realization walking back into the home studio one day. we were so used to stepping into nature and having a feeling of peace as you notice the melody in the details outdoors.  it took a small moment of reflection to realize that we get a similar feeling of peacefulness, even extending to bliss by stepping into our creative haven. we wanted to write “dewdrops” as a love letter to the creative spaces we have. we felt the song should be this surreal, hypnotic moment on the record. it’s not about any point of reflection, or any place in the future. this song encourages us to be present in your spaces that we made and find peace in that.” LISTEN: https://soundcloud.com/slenderbodies/dewdrops

aka  FKJ has announced that he will embark on a headlining North American Summer tour. The news follows two impressive back-to-back monumental performances at Coachella, a surprise collaborative single titled "Perfect Timing" with fast-rising R&B and hip hop singer-songwriter and producer Col3trane that arrived ahead of his Coachella performance and comes amid a sold-out North American run. The tour will kick off in Chicago on August 1st at the world-renowned Lollapalooza music festival and will include stops in Los Angeles, Denver, and more before concluding in Salmo, BC at the Shambhala music festival.  Pre-sale tickets to select shows are available for purchase starting Wednesday, May 1st  at 10 AM local time. General tickets go on sale Friday, May 3rd at 10 AM local time and can be purchased at smarturl.it/FKJpresale (full tour dates below).

Today, the band released album track “Hairpin Turns,” featuring Gail Ann Dorsey and Lisa Hannigan, alongside a Mills directed music video with vocal performances from Dorsey, Mina Tindle, Kate Stables and featuring dancer Sharon Eyal, Co-Founder, Co-Artistic director and choreographer of L-E-V Dance Group. Watch the video HERE and full credits below. “The video is a very simple portrait of the band (and the friends who helped make the song) and the song itself: You see all the instruments that make up the song in isolation, even hear them recorded live on set over the album version, kind of like showing you the tracks that make up the song,” shared Mike Mills.  “And you see everyone who contributed alone, including Gail Ann Dorsey, Pauline Delasser (aka Mina Tindle) and Kate Stables - but your mind puts them together. The dancer Sharon Eyal is sort of a continuation of Alicia Vikander’s character from the film “I Am Easy To Find”. More about I Am Easy To Find On September 3, 2017, director Mike Mills emailed Matt Berninger to introduce himself and in very short order, the most ambitious project of the National’s nearly 20-year career was born and plans for a hard-earned vacation died. The Los Angeles-based filmmaker was coming off his third feature, 20th Century Women, and was interested in working with the band on...something. A video maybe. Berninger, already a fan of Mills’ films, not only agreed to collaborate, he essentially handed over the keys to the band’s creative process. The result is I Am Easy to Find, a 24-minute film by Mills starring Alicia Vikander, and I Am Easy to Find, a 68-minute album by the National. The former is not the video for the latter; the latter is not the soundtrack to the former. The two projects are, as Mills calls them, “Playfully hostile siblings that love to steal from each other”—they share music and words and DNA and impulses and a vision about what it means to be human in 2019, but don’t necessarily need one another. The movie was composed like a piece of music; the music was assembled like a film, by a film director. The frontman and natural focal point was deliberately and dramatically sidestaged in favor of a variety of female voices, nearly all of whom have long been in the group’s orbit. It is unlike anything either artist has ever attempted and also totally in line with how they’ve created for much of their careers. As the album’s opening track, “You Had Your Soul With You,” unfurls, it’s so far, so National: a digitally manipulated guitar line, skittering drums, Berninger’s familiar baritone, mounting tension. Then around the 2:15 mark, the true nature of I Am Easy To Findannounces itself: The racket subsides, strings swell, and the voice of longtime David Bowie bandmate Gail Ann Dorsey booms out—not as background vocals, not as a hook, but to take over the song. Elsewhere it’s Irish singer-songwriter Lisa Hannigan, or Sharon Van Etten, or Mina Tindle or Kate Stables of This Is the Kit, or varying combinations of them. The Brooklyn Youth Choir, whom Bryce Dessner had worked with before. There are choral arrangements and strings on nearly every track, largely put together by Bryce in Paris—not a negation of the band’s dramatic tendencies, but a redistribution of them. “Yes, there are a lot of women singing on this, but it wasn't because, ‘Oh, let's have more women's voices,’ says Berninger. “It was more, ‘Let's have more of a fabric of people's identities.’ It would have been better to have had other male singers, but my ego wouldn't let that happen.” Read more about I Am Easy To Find HERE.

"That's one of my two Sam Cooke tributes on the album," says Van Zandt. "It's a fun little fiction about a character who has been burned by a relationship so he travels the world trying to distract himself only to find there's no escape from the addiction of love! Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will celebrate Summer of Sorcery with a pair of eagerly awaited record release shows, set for Los Angeles, CA's The Saban on May 4 and Asbury Park, NJ's famed Paramount Theatre on May 8. The band will then embark on the epic "Summer of Sorcery World Tour 2019," beginning May 16 at Liverpool, UK's 02 Academy and then making headline and festival stops across the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy and Spain.

 

North American headline dates and festival performances get underway June 29 at Syracuse, NY's New York State Blues Fest and then travel the Eastern US and Canada through an eagerly awaited performance at Annapolis, MD's Outlaw Jam on July 28. Additional European headline and festival dates follow, including dates in Norway, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Luxembourg, Ireland, Austria, and the United Kingdom.

 

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will then return to the US for a second North American leg, beginning September 5-8 at Las Vegas, NV's Big Blues Bender at Hard Rock Casino & Hotel and then traveling through Louisville, KY's Bourbon & Beyond on September 22. In addition, each and every US headline date on the Summer of Sorcery Tour 2019 will benefit Van Zandt's TeachRock education initiative and offer an introduction to the Teachrock.org curriculum. Before the show, the TeachRock staff will host free professional development workshops designed to engage educators with techniques and content through which they can comfortably use music to inspire students, even if they've never touched an instrument. The free, multimedia K-12 interdisciplinary curriculum meets prevailing standards in English Language Arts, Social Studies/History, the Fine and Performing Arts, and also includes STEAM and advisory material suitable for K-12 teachers of all disciplines, interdisciplinary best practices, and group activities.

Santa Monica, California, May 1, 2019 — On May 24, Interscope Records will release ROCKETMAN: Music From The Motion Picture. The set sees celebrated producer and composer Giles Martin re-interpreting and re-imagining Elton John’s iconic hits, tailoring the music specifically to support the narrative of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming major motion picture, ROCKETMAN, with a truly show stopping vocal performance from lead actor Taron Egerton. The first track from the album,“Rocket Man,” was Zane Lowe’s World Record today on Apple Music’s Beats 1. Elton John says: “It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron. I wanted his interpretation of me, through Bernie’s lyrics & my music - not just acting. I left Taron in the hands of Giles Martin, who I trusted implicitly because he's brilliant. I didn't want to be in Taron's shadows, watching over the process, I trusted them to do what they needed to do, artistically, and listening back I've been astonished with the results. Getting the music right was the most important thing, as the songs in the film are integral to the story.”

“The beauty of having Elton involved with the film is we've been able to work with him to see how far we can take these classic songs” says Taron Egerton. “Giles Martin has impeccable taste and massive skills to bring the songs to a place where they are faithful and daring as well.”



“The great thing about Elton is that he is a true artist and he wants people to expand on his work - he wants interpretations done, it's refreshing for him, says Giles Martin. “We had scope to play around with things and think how we address the songs. The songs are the story of the movie, the heartbeat of what happens. Once the songs start a whole world opens up. In Taron I've never known a singer who dedicates himself so much to the process. I don't think anyone else could have played Elton.”

Tasked with taking Elton’s unparalleled back catalogue and reimagining it to fit the film’s narrative, soundtrack producer Martin worked closely with the filmmakers, supervising all the music for the production and pulling a vocal masterclass from Egerton in the studio. From transforming ‘Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting’ into an epic ensemble piece, to morphing ‘I Want Love’ into a heart-breaking moment of conflict around little Reggie’s family meal, each track has been sculpted to form a unique part of the narrative of this most incredible of stories. The soundtrack also contains a brand-new Elton John and Bernie Taupin composition ‘(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again’ performed by Elton and Taron Egerton. ROCKETMAN: Music From The Motion Picture is produced by Giles Martin (except “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” is co-produced by Giles Martin and Greg Kurstin) and was recorded between 2017 and 2019 at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.
