Leland and the Silver Wells announces new LP + premieres lead single

LELAND AND THE SILVER WELLS ANNOUNCE NEW LP,
LELAND AND THE SILVER WELLS

SHARE LEAD SINGLE "WE DISSOLVE"
VIA IMPERFECT FIFTH

LELAND AND THE SILVER WELLS OUT SEPT. 14

On her latest album Leland and the Silver Wells, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Leland Ettinger creates songs that are expansive yet intimate, offering artfully layered arrangments that transport the listener while driving home the vividly personal lyrics of such intoxicating tunes as “We Dissolve,” “Was a Prisoner,” “Give Up the Gun,” “Lost My Way” and the epic, Joan Didion-inspired “Play It As It Lays” (Didion’s namesake novel also inspired the “Silver Wells” moniker). The album’s lovingly textured arrangements incorporate strings, brass and woodwinds along with conventional rock instrumentation to create a stirring musical statement that abounds with warmth and humanity.
Leland and the Silver Wells is the artist’s third album, and her first in over a decade. While her two previous efforts—2004’s Forever and 2007’s The Golden West, both released under the name Leland—won Ettinger a fair amount of attention, she’s also kept busy in her parallel career as a photographer, in which she explores the visual aspect of the same iconoclastic vision that drives her music.
“I wanted to make a true album that feels like an emotional journey and a singular entity, even though everybody tells me that people don’t perceive music this way anymore,” the artist says of Leland and the Silver Wells. “I think that there are still people who want the traditional emotional journey of an album. It’s like a novel, and the songs are the chapters that inform each other and give depth to one another.
“This group of songs,” she continues, “comprises the protagonist’s journey through valleys and swamps, through dark alleys, across oceans, high atop the mountain, deep inside the forest, and across the desert plain to redemption. Similarly to my photography, I would like this music to affect people on a primitive level as something that first draws the listener in because of something familiar and then opens up into something new, fresh and transformative. I want the listener to be transported on an emotional journey of healing and truth.”
For Leland and the Silver Wells, the Los Angeles-based artist—who plays piano, six- and twelve-string guitar and banjo on the album—assembled a large group of some of that city’s finest musicians, with the help of producers Marc Dote (who also plays bass on most of the tracks) and Steve Gregoropoulos (who arranged the album’s strings, woodwinds, brass and marimba).
Leland grew up in San Francisco and attended the Rhode Island School of Design and U.C. Irvine, studying painting, photography, video and performance art. She received an Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the California Institute of the Arts, where she also took classes in piano, harp, sitar and Indian singing. She began writing songs in her early 20s, equally inspired by the introspective songcraft of Joni Mitchell and the widescreen presentation of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
“I think my expressions in both music and photography grew out of a need to collaborate and be social,” she continues. “When I write a song, I am working to complete it so I can convene with other people to make it come alive. The song to me is the blueprint or the script that allows the real magic of collaboration to unfold. It becomes greater than the sum of its parts, and it is exhilarating to give birth to something that is the result of like minds plugging into the One Mind and creating magicin that moment. That, to me, is the high of art. Music to me is the superlative high of collaboration, so immediate and beyond mind and words.
“This album was the product of many years of stops and starts in songwriting after the birth of my daughter,” Leland explains. “After I had her, it became very difficult to write, and I thought I would never be able to complete a song again. The songs on this album are composed of many of the scattered fragments I could come up with over these years, which I revisited on my iPhone and which miraculously came to life. After I composed three songs, I called my producer Marc Doten and we embarked on a two-year recording process. I worked with many of the same musicians I had worked with on my previous albums, but this time we spent a lot more time rehearsing, and we were able to create some interesting tempo changes and musical shifts that evolved during rehearsal.”
With Leland and the Silver Wells having reached its long road to completion, Ettinger is looking forward to bringing its songs to life on stage. “We’re excited to perform it live,” she says. “We had our first gig in March with an eight-piece band including trumpet and violin, and another one coming up in June, and I’m very excited about booking more dates.”

Spindrift new 12" / Cassette & start summer tour this week!

SPINDRIFT START SUMMER USA TOUR THIS WEEKEND!

NEW 12”/CASSETTES/MERCH

“Since the mid-'90s, Spindrift has conjured up landscapes out of shoegaze, desert rock, psychedelia and outright film score..these LA rockers wield their instruments like six-shooters and have an easy time blowing your mind.” – Tucson Weekly
Emerging from the dusty western ghost towns of old California, Spindrift will begin their national summer tour this weekend. After an inaugural San Diego show this Friday, the band will have a record release show on Saturday in Los Angeles, where you can purchase their new 12” record (released on DivineDroid Records) as well as cassette versions and new shirt designs.

Below is a link to video of the new single. “Dil Gira Na De” (Translated as “Don’t Fall For Me”), which is a romp through classic Bollywood with a 60’s garage rock playfulness throughout. For the track, the band collaborated with actor Bivas Biswas and actress Sapna Gandhi who provide vocals and star in the video, which is directed by Mike Bruce (Noel Gallagher, The Legend Of God’s Gun). The band also make cameos throughout the video arrayed in black domino masks (perhaps a tribute to genre classics such as Gumnaam?).

“Dil Gera Na De” is released b/w “Algae On The Rocks” and is also available in digital format.

The “Summer USA Tour” (to commence in July) will include a week’s worth of dates (7/10-7/17) with intergalactic/dream pop provaceteurJesika VonRabbit (Gram Rabbit). Confirmed dates appear below with many more to be announced shortly.

Always playing new and unreleased tunes in their shows, Kirpatrick Thomas (lead vocals, guitar) has confirmed that Spindrift will be showcasing some material to appear on the next installment of their Classic Soundtracks album series (Vol.3 to be exact).

Based out of Los Angeles, CA, Spindrift’s essence is the desert haze and orchestral swells of Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks, twangy double-neck guitar and mind-expanding psychedelia. While originating in those influences, the band, which also includes Becca Davidson(guitar.vocals), Joe Zabielski (drums, percussion, samples), and Riley Bray (lead vocal, bass/baritone guitar) are adept at incorporating any strain of regional music into their style throughout their catalogue.

In addition to their own releases the band has released two feature films with soundtracks released on TeePee Records (The Legends Of God’s Gun, Ghost Of The West). As composers Spindrift has contributed to film scores and soundtracks including HBO’s East Bound & DownQuentin Tarantino’s Hell RideViceland’s “Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia” and Kings Of The Road “Seasons 1, 2 & 3.”

ORDINARY CORRUPT HUMAN LOVE BY DEAFHEAVEN NOW STREAMING AT NPR'S FIRST LISTEN

ORDINARY CORRUPT HUMAN LOVE BY DEAFHEAVEN NOW STREAMING AT NPR'S FIRST LISTEN
DEAFHEAVEN TO KICK OFF U.S. TOUR NEXT WEEK
NEW ALBUM ‘ORDINARY CORRUPT HUMAN LOVE’ OUT ON ANTI- JULY 13
Deafheaven’s forthcoming album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is now streaming at NPR’s First Listen. The highly anticipated fourth album from Deafheaven, Ordinary Corrupt Human Love will be released on July 13.
In creating Ordinary Corrupt Human Love—their second full-length for ANTI- Records—Deafheaven expanded their heavy, kinetic sound to bring in layered psychedelic vocals, jazz-inspired percussion, and intricate piano melodies. Produced by Jack Shirley, the album takes its title from Graham Greene’s The End of the Affair, reflecting a theme of hazy, yearning romanticism threaded throughout the tracks.
Last month, Deafheaven premiered “Canary Yellow,” the latest single from Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. Clocking in at over 12 minutes, the vast and epic track begins with ethereal textures and gauzy guitar tones, then lurches into a glorious assault of heavy riffs, thunderous rhythms, and the howling vocals of frontman George Clarke.
Known for their transcendent live show, Deafheaven recently announced U.S. tour dates in support of Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. The 30-date run begins July 11 at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix and continues through August 18 at The Wiltern in L.A. In addition, Deafheaven has announced a UK/EU summer tour with Inter Arma as support.

Formed in San Francisco in 2010, Deafheaven made their debut with 2011’s Roads To Judah and had an unexpected crossover hit with their 2013 sophomore effort Sunbather. Along with being praised as “one of the best albums of the year” by Stereogum, their third album New Bermuda was hailed as “a brilliant collision of beauty and despair” in Pitchfork’s Best New Music review.

INTIMATE NASHVILLE & DETROIT SHOWS,
DIE-CUT SLEEVE WITH PEEP-IN ARTWORK,
GLOSSY PHOTOS AND JACK WHITE LOGO FLAG

DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS JULY 31

To celebrate the release of his album Boarding House Reach in March 2018, Jack White embarked on a mini-tour of intimate venues. Starting at his hometown go-to stage in the Blue Room at Third Man Records in Nashville, filtering through dreams and dives in NYC and Los Angeles and London and eventually hitting White's home away from home at Third Man Records Cass Corridor in Detroit, the performances were explosive and commanding.

In the spirit of the classic baseball "home-and-away" Vault package #37 highlights the momentous, tour-de-force set White unfurled in Nashville on March 16th and augments it with the unhinged Detroit performance a month later. Highlights include the raucous live debut of stadium anthem "Battle Cry", the frenetic, stinging guitar fight of "Over and Over and Over" and masterful crowd singalongs for White Stripes classics like "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground." As is par for the Vault, both of these shows are exemplary entries into the twenty-plus years of epic, life-affirming Jack White live performances.

Packaged in a die-cut sleeve with peep-in artwork reminiscent of Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti or the Stones' Some Girls, the interplay between the sleeve and the jacket will provide fans with hours upon hours of flip-flopping fun. The discs will be pressed on lustrous black, beautiful blue and wonderful white vinyl.

Accompanying these three LPs are a selection of three glossy, 8x10, professionally-shot photosfrom both performances. From the expert eye of White's personal photographer David Swanson the attention to detail here is second-to-none. They capture lighting-fast moments from the performances, showcasing the impressive work and presence from band members Dominic DavisQuincy McCraryCarla Azar and Neal Evans.

And to top it all off, a magnificent Jack White logo flag. We want to see these things flying at Jack White concerts the world over. Hell, we want to see these EVERYWHERE. Hoist 'em up high!

Subscriptions are live NOW and the deadline to sign-up is July 31 so don't delay. Purchase the package and sign up to become a Vault member here: https://thirdmanstore.com/tmr-vault-platinum-subscription-new#
