ABOUT LEVITATION

Founded in 2008 as Austin Psych Fest, by members of The Black Angels and friends, the independent event grew from a small word-of-mouth event to an internationally acclaimed, full weekend destination. Through the years, they helped spark a movement, inspiring the creation of Psych Fests and similar events across the globe. Austin Psych Fest was renamed Levitation in honor of Austin's psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at Levitation 2015 for the band's 50th anniversary.

2016 was heralded by press and fans alike to be another landmark year for Levitation, until severe weather resulted in the cancellation of the 3 day weekend at the ranch, and a rapidly rescheduled weekend of club shows in downtown Austin. The cancellation also resulted in financial devastation of the independent group, and the postponement of the 2017 event in Austin. The founders took a year to restructure and find a way to move forward. Levitation returns in 2018, continuing the vision that launched the event in 2008.

In addition to the flagship event in Austin, the group has curated Levitation events in France, Chicago and Vancouver, along with ongoing events in Austin and special events and showcases at Mexico City's NRMAL, The Netherlands' Le Guess Who, and a massive annual Levitation showcase at SXSW. Levitation France celebrated it's 5th year in September 2017, at Le Quai in Angers, FR with sold out crowds.  Since 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene like Night Beats, Holy Wave, Ringo Deathstarr and many more - with new releases on the horizon.

Stay tuned as full details for 2018 unfold, along with upcoming events in Austin including Levitation's 7th annual SXSW event.

Allah-Las @ Sweetwater Music Hall

If you drive past the 200 block of South La Brea, there is a lamp shop, a pet shop, and a little glass door that says “Casting Agency” above it. Inside you’ll find one of LA’s most stereotypical rituals, where men & women from all walks of life vie for the attention and popularity of the Hollywood producer. It’s a dream factory for some of them. It’s also a place where Los Angeles outsiders learn what the city is really like, beyond the sun and surf and celebrities, where every brightly-lit surface eventually faces a cloud.Indeed, the lessons learned by the Allah-Las –guitarists Miles Michaud and Pedrum Siadatian, bassist Spencer Dunham, drummer Matthew Correia–since their auspicious formation in 2008 have been tempered with experience. Now, with their third album Calico Review (their first for Mexican Summer), their experience transforms once more, this time into wisdom.

The band’s trajectory, formed around mutual appreciation for the same kinds of music and a host of shared experiences, focuses on both the outer trappings of their home and surroundings, and the through line of darkness that suffuses life in LA county. Where the Allah-Las display their insight, and what really shines across the 12 songs that comprise Calico Review, is the way that the group has pivoted from specific influences and nods to the music they love, to crafting the feelings of freedom, grit, and melancholy in their music. That feeling –the peerless capture of music long in the tradition and mood of California pop, the sound that’s captured the essence of the LA experience –aligns with their stylistic technique and their experience in the studio environment to create their strongest album to date, one which showcases their developments in songwriting and arrangements. The process began with their self-titled debut, which captured the Allah-Las’ live set circa 2012 and continued onward with 2014’s Worship the Sun, where they began to experiment with overdubs and writing songs individually instead of as a band.

Now, Calico Review showcases a band that’s grown confident in its own style to reflect the perspectives of each member, to craft an album that changes up the approach from song-to-song, while retaining their abilities as a cohesive unit.Audiences familiar with the band will recognize the levels of nuance and steadiness the Allah-Las have grown into throughout Calico Review. It’s immediate, the first thing you recognize about the band in the opening moves of “Strange Heat,” in the amount of control and character burning off of the band’s knack for restraint. Songs like “Famous Phone Figure” cradle character sketches over delicate strains of violin, organ, and Mellotron, Correia’s drumming carefully underlining a three-note theme that casts a phantom sadness over the proceedings, the group exerting a touch both light and steady enough to bring your mood to theirs.

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES HEADLINING DATES FOR SPRING 2018 IN NORTH AMERICA!

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES SPRING 2018 TOUR

HEADLINING DATES ACROSS THE US AND CANADA

JORJA SMITH BECOMES THE FIRST INDEPENDENT ARTIST TO WIN THE BRITS CRITIC'S CHOICE AWARD

TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8th; FAN PRE-SALE BEGINS WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6th

20 year old UK-based singer, songwriter and modern muse, Jorja Smith, has announced her first 2018 run of dates across North America, going on sale this Friday December 8th at 10AM local time. Fans will get the first opportunity to buy tickets on Wednesday, December 6th at 10AM local by signing up for the mailing list through her webstore here: https://jorja.tmstor.es

Smith's rise to global acclaim has been a relatively quick ascent but she's been playing music since a young age. Hailing from rural Walsall, England, Smith began playing keyboard at the age of 8 and was learning to sing classical by 12. She began to write her own lyrics and most songs on her upcoming 2018 album were written between the ages of 17-19.  Constantly evolving as a songwriter through her adolescence, she uploaded her debut single "Blue Lights" to Soundcloud and was met with wide praise from fans and peers. Inspired by the unjust prejudice and violence young black men face every day, the track earned the praise of Skrillex and Stormzy before it was eventually included on Drake's OVO radio show on Beats 1. She concluded 2016 with the release of her debut EP Project 11, a flowing collection of songs knitted together by the soulful elasticity of her voice. With eclectic influences like Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs, Amy Winehouse, Mos Def, Damian Marley, and Lauryn Hill, Smith's songs have the ability to transport the listener anywhere, from a smoky Parisian jazz club to a North London warehouse party.

Things began to ramp up quickly in early 2017 when Smith was featured on two songs, "Get It Together" and "Jorja's Interlude", off Drake's More Life. Smith went on to join Drake onstage at his UK headline shows and from there, the buzz exploded. Smith continued to pop up through the rest of the year, featuring on Kali Uchis' track "Tyrant" and joining Bruno Mars on a leg of his US tour after her second sold out US headlining tour. Taking inspiration from her industrial West Midlands upbringing, her latest release "On My Mind", a collaboration with Preditah, is a nod to her Bassline roots and a viral success with 25 million streams worldwide.

In the past year alone Jorja has earned many accolades, including early praise from the FADER, Pitchfork, Vogue, New York Times, Billboard, GQ, Time, Noisey and more. Smith also earned the fourth spot of BBC's Sound of 2017 poll as well as 3 MOBO nominations. The young talent just became the first ever unsigned artist to win a BRIT Critics Choice Award, proving she is one to watch.

"...based on solo work that strikes a balance between soulful jazz and forward-thinking R&B, we're about to hear much more of her velvety tones." -TIME

"...one of the most exciting musicians to emerge from London's urban scene. Genre-bending and collab kudos aside, her voice is spectacular." -GQ

"... it's actually kind of dizzying to think about what she might achieve in her career to come." -NOISEY

"St. Vincent demonstrates colossal powers...an indie-rock superhero dedicated to the heroic mission of saving a moribund music genre from toxic tedium with her extraordinary power of boundless creativity." - Kansas City Star

"Spellbinding...during Clark’s 90-minute set, I couldn’t help thinking of Prince, and David Bowie, and BeyoncĂ©." - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"A program of delicious contradictions — fame vs. isolation, artifice vs. authenticity — left St. Vincent’s audience thoroughly charmed....all aspects of  [the tour] are visually arresting." – Indianapolis Star

"A daring high-wire act in which Clark sang and played guitar...relying on her talent, stage presence, costumes (think: Wonder Woman as seductress) and her songs themselves to carry the day." - St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Moon Honey Debut Video For "Betta Fish." Headlining Teragram Ballroom December 14

MOON HONEY DEBUT OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “BETTA FISH”

“BETTA FISH”

iTunes | Apple Music | Spotify | Soundcloud

12/14 – The Teragram Ballroom – Los Angeles, CA – TICKETS

Today, Moon Honey debuted their captivating new video for their latest sonic offering "Betta Fish." Directed by Paul Meredith, the video is a quirky and delightful kaleidoscope of color, shot inside the California Institute of Abnormal Arts and features special guest appearances from one 100 year old dead French clown in face paint, one Chinese magician from an opium den in San Francisco, and one severed hand of a gypsy. Watch the official video for "Betta Fish" HERE.
"Betta Fish" is available worldwide on Apple Music and Spotify and is their first release since the critically acclaimed 2013 debut “Hand-Painted Dream Photographs”, which quietly sent shockwaves throughout the underground, bubbling up with praise courtesy of The New York Times, Noisey, NPR and more.

Formed in the Big Easy, psych-pop, art duo Moon Honey includes lead vocalist, visual artist and lyricist, Jess Joy, and guitarist and composer, Andrew Martin, and together they’ve created an out-of-this-world concoction of magic that transports you to another peculiar and exciting realm of sound and vision.

A wild red-headed musical enchantress and multi-faceted artist from the bayou of Baton Rouge, Jess’ je ne sais quoi extends beyond her primal vocal conjuring’s to handmade mysticism—from personally directing D.I.Y. stop-motion music videos and assembling surreal collages to building paper machĂ© stage production and sewing period-correct costume pieces. Born in the Big Easy and raised on the Cayman Islands as an anachronistic disciple of Jimi Hendrix and Mark Bolan, Andrew speaks through six-strings often while decked out in mod velvet threads. The union of these two dissonantly kindred spirits yields a totemic pastiche of psychedelia, rock, soul, performance art and good old-fashioned voodoo.

Currently nestled in the Silverlake Hills of Los Angeles, Moon Honey’s Jess and Andrew immersed themselves in the city’s arts scene whilst writing and recording the new music.  Working with producer John Goodmanson [Blonde Redhead, Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie], the band bottle their world into simultaneously complex and singable songs - like Betta Fish - and plan on inviting us further into their multi-colored, psychedelic universe, as they reveal more music, art and visuals created by the talented duo in 2018.

“We really believe in the human hand,” Jess goes on. “Andrew is so specific with his tones and the vintage tubes he chooses. The way he plays is very emotional. We don’t lean into electronic or digital music. We feel strongly about preserving the organic qualities that come from the hand and those imperfections. That ties into the artwork being handmade. I want everything to be tactile and have irregularities.”

“Musically, the guitar creates the sounds,” Andrew elaborates. “There are so many ways to break, bend, and warp that instrument. I believe in it so much.”

That belief carries over into the music and can be heard in their latest dynamic sonic offering, “Betta Fish.” Watch the new video HERE.

Moon Honey will be headlining at The Teragram Ballroom on December, 14th. For more information and tickets, go to www.moonhoneyband.com
More to come from Moon Honey soon.

Jonathan Wilson Announces 'Rare Birds' LP Featuring Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty, Lucius, Laraaji; Spring World Tour

Jonathan Wilson Announces New Album, Rare Birds;
March 2018 LP Includes Contributions From Father John Misty, Lucius, Laraaji, Lana Del Rey; Spring World Tour Announced; December LA Shows Sold Out

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer Jonathan Wilson(Father John Misty, Karen Elson, Conor Oberst), returns with his third solo release onBella Union on March 2nd, 2018. The ambitious "maximalist" album, titled Rare Birds, features contributions from Father John Misty, LuciusLana Del Rey, and New Age music legend LaraajiThe first track from the album, the epic and romantic "Over The Midnight", is streaming now. Watch the video - directed by Andrea Nakhla - here

Of "Over The Midnight", Wilson says, "I wanted to write a song about a sacred place for lovers to exist and I named that destination, process, mood or feeling  'Over the Midnight'. It's a place where nothing is savage." In one of Wilson's favorite lines on the album he sings, "This world it is burning, but don't it feel incredible?/ Whisper in my ear and tell me what you see in the flames."

A highly sought after record producer, North Carolina native Wilson had a busy 2017, producing Father John Misty's Grammy nominated Pure Comedy and touring arenas around the globe as a guitarist and vocalist for Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters (for whom he also contributed to the Grammy nominated Is This The Life We Really Want? album). Wilson also saw widespread acclaim heaped on Karen Elson's sophomore LP Double Roses, which he recorded with her in Los Angeles in 2016. But 2018 looks to be even more active as he'll be continuing on with the worldwide Waters tour, releasing Rare Birdsand completing a headline tour of US and Europe in the spring. But first, he'll wrap up this year with a short run of shows in Los Angeles in December; performing three consecutive nights - billed as 'Jonathan Wilson with Band, Friends and Strings' at The Moroccan inLos Angeles, CA on December 21, 22 and 23. These shows are now sold out with a handful of tickets for press available on request. A newly announced headline tour for March and April includes stops in ChicagoNew YorkDCPhilly and Boston before heading to Europe. All confirmed dates below.

Although much of the album is comprised lyrically of meditations on a failed relationship and its aftermath, Wilson insists that Rare Birds is not really a concept album. "It's meant more as a healing affair, a rejuvenation, a reconciliation, for others, and for me. I wanted to balance personal narrative with the need I feel for calming, healing music. I think we need journeys in sound, psychedelic gossamer-winged music, to incite hope, positivity, longing, reckless abandon and regret. It's all in there."

And, for this one, music critics will need to retire the comparisons to heritage rockers and Laurel Canyon troubadours as they're hardly useful anymore. Wilson's new sound takes a synthetic/acoustic, best-of-both-worlds analog/digital hybrid approach to achieve the complexity, sonic density and glossy hi-fi coating of Rare Birds. Heard for the first time on a Jonathan Wilson album are the sounds of synthesizers and drum machines.

"The Neil Young, CSN, Dennis Wilson and Tom Petty comparisons for the first two records were flattering, but I didn't ever really see it that way myself", he explains. More genuinely influenced by such disparate artists as Talk Talk, Arthur Russell and a 'Sleigh Bells-meet-George Harrison kinda thing', Wilson has made a "maximalist," high density album more influenced by 80s British production more than anything to do with Southern California in 1970s. It's a dynamic new approach for Wilson that calls to mind one of Peter Gabriel's early solo albums or even mid-period Kate Bush. "This album is a hell of a lot more Trevor Horn than anything, you know, Laurel Canyon-related," he muses. Recorded during the same timeframe he was in the studio with Roger Waters, working on Is This The Life We Really Want?, Wilson felt inclined to expand into certain psychedelic and sound labyrinths. There are voices, sirens, children playing, and more enhancing spatial sounds, while musical compadres Lana Del Rey and Josh Tillman (Father John Misty) appear as backing vocalists on "Living With Myself" and "49 Hairflips", respectively.

Says Tillman, "Jonathan's talent - "mastery" may be more apt - places him among a rarefied class of musical auteur.  You'd be hard pressed to find a comparison, or contemporary for that matter, that would do his recent work justice."

2018 will see Wilson playing nearly 100 shows all over the world with Roger Waters and performing his own headline and festival appearances wherever, and whenever he can fit them in.

BANDSINTOWN LAUNCHES 'BIG BREAK'

EMERGING ARTIST PROGRAM

The Popular Concert Discovery App's New Data Driven Program
Champions Emerging Artists

Inaugural 'Big Break' Artists Include: FOXTRAX, Minke, Peach Pit, and SISTERS

"Changing the concert business, one show at a time" - Billboard

NEW YORK - DECEMBER 5, 2017 - Bandsintown, the popular concert discovery platform, has launched 'Big Break', the first and the most ambitious data-driven program designed to spotlight and support emerging artists in live music.
Live performance now often precedes an artist's recording career and is a key indicator of growth. Bandsintown has the inside scoop on who's racking up Trackers at warp speed with its touring data for more than 440,000 artists and 38 Million live music fans. Because an artist's growth on Bandsintown is organic, their  "trackers" are authentic trendsetters.  Bandsintown will offer Big Break artists massive exposure across its concert discovery network for a 12 month period, allowing fans to be the first to discover music's most promising up-and-comers.

"We know how hard it is for developing acts to reach the next level, and we're passionate about helping them to achieve this milestone," said Fabrice Sergent, Bandsintown Managing Partner. "Our latest program uses data to identify artists who have seen extensive growth on our platform within a six month span, and helps support them at a crucial turning point in their careers. We're extremely excited to work with each of these artists and to watch them grow. We would also like to thank the artists for inviting us along for their ride."

Bandsintown "Big Break" is data-driven and identifies artists who have grown the most between
100 and 5,000 Bandsintown trackers within a 6 month period. "Big Break" artists will receive promotion across Bandsintown's digital network, in customized editorial, in-app features, brand partnerships, touring and special showcase opportunities, and social media promotion. The program will spotlight 50 new artists in the coming year.

Bandsintown is launching 'Big Break' with Los Angeles rock trio FOXTRAX, London-based singer-songwriter Minke, Vancouver-based indie-pop band Peach Pit, and Seattle synth-pop duo SISTERS.

"We're super excited to be part of the program," said Peach Pit manager, Tristan Orchard. "Bandsintown is really valuable in ensuring the group's fans know about upcoming shows and it's really awesome they're supporting emerging artists."
