Night Drive is not a band. It's a mission. Two secret agents, Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon, sent to recalibrate the future of electro-pop.
 
Night Drive is kind of music you might hear on a car stereo if Giorgio Moroder and Ray Bradbury were driving late at night through a buzzing metropolis. Inspired by dark wave and synthpop alike, and drawing influences from artists such as Brian Eno, The Knife, The Drums, New Order and LCD Soundsystem, the driving beat and dancing synths of Position I makes you want to jet off to some great nightclub in the sky.
 
Rodney and Brandon began writing together after the tragic death of a young woman they both were dating, unknowingly at the same time. This collaboration left them with the collection of songs from which Night Drive was born.
 
The duo paired up with Lobo Sucio Creative for “After Dark,” directed Javier Antonio Avellan. “This is our third video with Night Drive,” notes Avellan. “We have explored the realms of experimental and abstract filmmaking in our previous collaborations, so with this video we decided to delve into a fictional world to tell the story of a young girl on a late night adventure." Cillie Barnes teamed with Warby Parker to record two new songs for their Artists In Residencecompilation. The tracks were recorded at The Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Cillie Barnes said, "I felt glamorous and indulgent: who stays in a hotel in their own city?" The resulting songs "In Pursuit of the Beast" and "Marty's Lament" along with the entire Artists In Residence Compilation is available now on iTunes.

Earlier this year RAC reworked "Veranda" from Cillie Barnes' Happy Valley EP. The track which is available as free download, has more than 400,000 plays on Soundcloud and 300,000 plays onMajestic Casual's Youtube channel. Cillie Barnes also released a cover of The National's "Sea Of Love" which is available to share here. Cillie Barnes has several shows coming in Los Angeles including a performance at The Echo with PAPA as part of the Red Bull Sound Select series. All shows are listed below.

Haley Bonar is set to release her fifth full length record, Last War, on May 20th via Graveface. Last week, Spin premiered "No Sensitive Man" from Last War and Haley stopped The Current in Minneapolis to chat about her forthcoming album, recording at Dave Grohl's studio and her experience working with Graveface. You can listen to the full interview here. Additionally, NPR is featuring "Last War" in their SXSW preview The Austin 100 - a playlist celebrating 100 artists to discover at SXSW 2014. You can listen to the the feature here. Haley Bonar also released an album trailer for Last War which is available to post and share via YouTube. 

On Last War, Bonar takes a darker sonic direction on the forthcoming album which envelopes her omnipotent songwriting in lush, brooding soundscapes that feature hard driving rhythm sections, soaring synths and snarling guitars. The record was recorded at Devils Workshop, April Base and 606 (Dave Grohl's personal studio in LA) The cherry on top: special guest Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Volcano Choir) appears on two tracks adding his ethereal vocal harmonies to "From A Cage" and "Eat for Free".

Haley Bonar was discovered during an open mic event by one of her musical heroes, Alan Sparhawk of Low. The next day she quit school, crammed her Honda Civic full of gear with her drummer, and was opening for Low across the country she had barely seen. Haley was twenty years old. Since then, she has released four full length albums, several EPs, started a punk/new-wave side project (Gramma's Boyfriend), had songs tapped for major motion pictures and has had the pleasure to tour from coast-to-coast playing some of the most amazing venues with some of the most talented artists in the world.

Due for release on May 6, 2014, the brilliantly playful Nikki Nack follows 2011's HUGELY successful W H O K I L L, an album that ended the year high on most Top Ten lists, even topping the highly prestigious Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll, based on votes from 700 of America's most notable music critics. tUnE-yArDs toured the world relentlessly and performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and ACL TV. After affording herself a much needed break (she wrote a brilliant article for The Talkhouse on spending time in Haiti here), Merrill Garbus is back. Brooklyn labels Northern Spy and Ba Da Bing are teaming up on an official SXSW showcase on Friday, March 14 @ Palm Door on Sabine St. Newly announced on the lineup is Sean Lennon’s Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, who release their new album, Midnight Sun, April 29 on Chimera Music. The BDB I NSPY Showcase features a new generation of musicians emerging as the genre defining artists of psych, avant garde and experimental. No showcase can boast such an eclectic group of artists, for each band is singular in their approach and belong to a genre unto themselves. Oscillate to the dark-folk drone of Cross Record, trip balls to the psyched out grooves of Cloud Becomes Your Hand and NYMPH, get a pit started during the chaotic early grunge of Slothrust and shake your friggin ass to the saxophone pop of DVA.  We’ve got it all and we’ll be partying indoors and on our backyard deck.
