TANCRED (NOW, NOW'S JESS ABBOTT) TO RELEASE NEW SELF-TITED

TANCRED (NOW, NOW'S JESS ABBOTT) TO RELEASE NEW SELF-TITED ALBUM ON TOPSHELF RECORDS OCTOBER 15

STREAM THE FIRST SINGLE "THE RING"

Tancred will proudly release her new self-titled album on Topshelf Records this October 15th. The artistic moniker for Mainer and current Minneapolis resident Jess Abbott, Tancred serves as a creative outlet for her own songs outside the bounds of her roll as one third of the critically acclaimed trio Now, Now. Self-recorded with the help of fellow Now, Now band member Brad Hale, Tancred is Abbots' second full-length release, following up on 2011'sCapes.

Stream the lead single "The Ring" on YouTube at the link below.

The songs on Tancred leap from the speakers with an intense frenetic energy, unwinding like a long overdue conversation, spilling out a years worth of emotional energy discarded or withheld. Mixing sweetly sung dissonance and angular guitar tones, Abbott draws the listener in with deeply personal lyrics set to songs reminiscent of early Death Cab For Cutie and Tegan and Sara circa If It Was You.

Before she found herself ensconced within the landlocked bounds of the mid-west, Abbott began her life in California before moving with family to the coast of Maine at a young age. Her interest in music would blossom at the tender age of six with the help of an old acoustic guitar, and a lesson from her mother on how to play Boston's "More Than A Feeling". A healthy dose of curiosity kept her going until her first musical obsessions, Letters To Cleo and The Cure, instilled a desire to write and perform her own songs.

In High School Abbott played in a few different bands with varying local success, including a duo called Kids' Fiction. After graduating she threw caution to the wind and uprooted herself, moving to Minneapolis to join Now, Now before the release of their Neighbors EP and break out sophomore album Thread. Despite the intense demands of touring and recording as part of the much loved trio, Abbott has always found time to focus on her own songwriting. Through self-releases on BandCamp she cultivated a rabid following, at times paying the rent with the money made from sales, no small feat for an indie artist's low key solo releases. The tumblr fan pages and devotion inspired by her music is a testament to its magnetism.

Stay tuned for more news, music, and videos from Tancred in the coming weeks.

ADULT. Premieres New Video For "Tonight We Fall"

ADULT.
ADULT. have just released a new video for their song "Tonight We Fall," premiering on THUMP. This new video was created entirely by ADULT. members Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller in their Detroit home.  The concept was inspired by a series of photographs Kuperus had done a few years back that she had created after seeing Jean Cocteau's "Blood of the Poet."  Like most of Kuperus' work, the video has no post production and all effects were created "in camera."

Oh Land's "Wish Bone" Now Streaming Online

OH LAND'S WISH BONE STREAMING EARLY AT
THE NEW YORK TIMES
NATIONWIDE TOUR KICKS OFF THIS FRIDAY
Oh Land - Wish Bone
Oh Land's highly-anticipated new album Wish Bone is available to stream now at The New York Times, a week in advance of its September 24 release on Federal Prism. Now she's dropping a bomb," from USA Today, who declares it "punchy and dance-ready," and with ELLE, who praises "imaginative, playful songs."

Featuring her distinctive brand of left-field pop, Wish Bone features collaborations with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, as well as additional contributions from Sia, WNDRBRD and Dan Carey, among others. The album will be released on Sitek's boutique label Federal Prism, joining a roster that includes TV on the Radio, Chuck Inglish, CSS, Priscilla Ahn and more. Oh Land recently unveiled the video for energetic new single "Renaissance Girls." Taking inspiration from Oh Land's past in ballet, the video features light-hearted choreography juxtaposed by the harshness of an abandoned warehouse setting. The video originally premiered on RollingStone.com HERE.

On Wish Bone, Oh Land's approach to songwriting was grounded in her hunger to be present in her immediate surroundings, accepting the limitations of reality rather than creating an idealized fantasy world. Spending time writing in Los Angeles and New York, Oh Land found inspiration in the limits of her own physicality (a disciplined ballet dancer, her career was sidelined by a crippling back injury) and found freedom within those restrictions.

For the recording of the album, Oh Land collaborated with Dave Sitek, holing up in his studio in Los Angeles and allowing the process to reflect the spontaneity of everyday life. "The collaboration was very intuitive," explains Oh Land. ""We didn't plan what we wanted to do, we just pressed record and played a million different instruments. We were both eager for the songs to sound likes the lives we were living at the time, so we kept some of the 'mistakes' on purpose, maintaining the integrity of what was delivered in the moment." Fittingly, the album was recorded using analog equipment and features brass horns, harp, and even a choir all recorded live. The result is Oh Land's most raw and immediate album yet.

Wish Bone is the long-awaited follow up to Oh Land's 2011 self-titled album that garnered overwhelming acclaim, with SPIN declaring it one of "20 best pop albums of 2011," and Details praising it's "fizzy, danceable electro-pop in the mode of Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine."

OMD SHARE NEW NIGHT CAFE EP AND OFFICIAL VIDEO

OMD SHARE NEW NIGHT CAFE EP AND OFFICIAL VIDEO

"Night Café" is the third single from OMD's English Electric and was released this week as a digital EP via BMG.

The single is accompanied by four superb remixes and a complete collection of the albums' b-sides, forming a 10 track digital release package. A brand new track 'Kill Me' is also included as the official b-side to Night Café. When asked about the track Andy McCluskey said, "'Kill Me' was actually one of the first ideas that we had for the songs that would form the English Electric collection. I mentioned to Paul that it would be interesting to try a looped vocal idea something like our old song "4-Neu," and suggested the words 'kill me.'"

One remix in particular features the dark disco re-workings of synth pop new comers Vile Electrodes. Their 'B-Side the C-Side' remix came as a result of supporting OMD's live shows throughout Europe. On his inspiration for "Night Café" Andy says, "I was in New York for the first time in 20 years. I was feeling melancholy.  It was -9 degrees, it was dark and I was on a street corner looking into an almost empty restaurant. How could I not be reminded of Edward Hopper's paintings?"

The song references seven titles of his works and combines OMD's romantic melodic touch with a lyrical sadness that matches the tranquil emptiness of Hopper's art.  The accompanying video premiered recently with Clash Magazine- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPKzOAYu7qs

OMD are enjoying a fruitful year; critically acclaimed English Electric premiered on Pitchfork and was featured in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Boston Globe and more.

Low covers Rhianna & Mykki Echo's "Stay" for Rock For Kids

Low Covers Rihanna’s "Stay" For Chicago’s Rock for Kids
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lchC5sQepqE

@lowtheband: Mim made it clear this morning that this Rihanna song “Stay” is awesome. (3:57 PM – 15 Jul 13)

After performing a crowd-favorite live version of Rihanna’s “Stay” at the Pitchfork Music Festival this past July, Low was inspired to record a proper studio version to help raise funds for Pitchfork Music Festival charity partner Rock for Kids (see news story September 12th). Rock For Kids (www.rockforkids.org) provides music education to underserved children in Chicago. In between the festival and their ensuing European tour, Low returned home to record  the track at Sacred Heart in Duluth, MN. Low’s version of the pop ballad is a stunner and follows in the wake of the band’s March 2013, Jeff Tweedy-produced album The Invisible Way, and associated worldwide touring. Low will close out 2013 with an appearance at San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest in early October and extensive touring in Europe and the UK in November (tour dates here). Low’s version of “Stay” is available through iTunes now (www.itunes.com/low) and will see wider digital release in the weeks to come.
