Recorded in a Tacoma, Washington warehouse, Sonic Bloom is an explosion of reverb soaked rock and soul blended with sharp drone numbers and classic rhythm-and-blues founded tracks. From the haunting psychic groove of 'Seven Poison Wonders' to the sparse Zombies influenced 'Playing Dead' to the squealing ruckus of 'Rat King', Sonic Bloom harkens back to the outer corners of rock and roll radio of yore.

The Seattle-based band have spent past few years relentlessly touring, hitting over 20 countries. The trio -- featuring Danny Lee Blackwell on guitar/vocals, Tarek Wegner on bass/vocals, and James Traeger on drums/vocals -- will keep up this pace, touring this fall in support of Sonic Bloom. Jake Bellows's Debut Solo Album New Ocean Streaming At Spin

Jake Bellows's Debut Solo Album New Ocean Streaming At Spin
New Ocean Out August 6 On Saddle Creek
"The 11-track LP features previously shared stunners "I Know You" and "All Right Now", and also makes way for "left turns into drunk-in-the-sun bossa nova, blue-eyed-soul ruptured by fuzz guitar, [and] love songs that are not necessarily ballads" - SPIN

"Bellows' woozy voice waxes, wanes, woos and philosophizes, revealing the work of a songwriter who knows the best music is not a one-way conversation."

Jake Bellows is set to release his debut solo album New Ocean on August 6 via Saddle Creek. In anticipation of the release, SPIN is running an exclusive album stream a week before the street date. New Ocean was recorded at Omaha's ARC Studios with engineer Ben Brodin (Before the Toast and Tea, Conor Oberst), Ryan Fox (The Good Life), Todd Fink (The Faint), and Heath Koontz (Neva Dinova). New Ocean is now available for pre-order on CD & LP via Saddle Creek and limited edition cassette through Majestic Litter.

Jake Bellows had quit music. Or so he thought.

After fronting Neva Dinova for more than 15 years, which included five full-lengths, a split EP, and countless tours, he packed up his dog and moved from his native Omaha to his girlfriend's hometown of Los Angeles. Two days before he left he recorded 18 demos with musician and engineer Ben Brodin at Brodin's insistence. Once in L.A., Bellows got a job installing sliding-glass doors and sold his Les Paul to buy a Datsun pick-up truck.

Though he had no plans to form a new band, he played the occasional solo show, performed with Whispertown, and continued to write songs. In early 2011, an invitation arrived from Omaha's Film Streams Theater for Jake's old friend Ryan Fox also living on the West Coast, to perform an original live film-score. Fox enlisted Bellows and Brodin to collaborate and the trio began to compose and discuss improvisational ideas over long-distance. Since they were all going to be in Omaha and had a long history of playing in each other's bands, Brodin and Fox nudged Bellows into booking studio time to record some of his dormant songs.

Fox and Bellows drove from LA to Omaha that November. They entered ARC Studios for a feverish recording session, arranging and writing parts on the fly with an impromptu band including Heath Koontz, Todd Fink, Whispertown bandmate Morgan Nagler and other old friends. Committing quickly to intuitive arrangements the band recorded 17 tracks in a little more than a week. They worked remotely on the record throughout that winter and spring, adding overdubs in basements and bedrooms across western North America.

The new music is underpinned by philosophical conviction and shaped by an interest in physics, cosmology and mythology. Bellows returned to music with a renewed sense of the intrinsic value of art and its ability to express the commonality of human experience. His debut full-length, New Ocean, offers a mix tape of different kinds of songs hanging out on one record - love songs that are not necessarily ballads despite their introspective gauziness, with left turns into drunk-in-the-sun bossa nova and blue-eyed-soul ruptured by fuzz guitar. Bellows believes that songs change the fabric of the universe through the very frequencies they emit. As such, the record attempts to create the world he wants to see instead of reflect the world that is.

Press Quotes

"Dreamy, breathy vocals layered over uptempo beats and synthesized instrumentation that nimbly maneuvers between a sense of 21st-century melancholy and jubilation, without ever quite committing to either, characterize White Prism's newest self-titled EP" -Interview
"So yeah, she’s got the vocal goods. But what good is a killer voice if it doesn’t have equally awesome music backing it up? And Cranitch has that" -NYLON

White: The presence of all the wavelengths of visible light.
Prism: A transparent optical element that reflects images and refracts light.
These two words combine to define the sound of the Johanna Cranitch project – White Prism. Since birth, music surrounded the Australian-born, NYC-based artist.  It was her Hungarian grandfather, a jazz pianist, who gave her his blessing by declaring, “this one will be musical.” And so, her musical journey began.
From her early upbringings in the esteemed Kodaly school of music, to the Gregorian chants that her father, a former Priest in training, brought to the table; Johanna was veered to the stage by her music loving parents. She was gracing the halls of the Sydney Opera House at the tender age of 9, and performing with the Opera Australia Children’s Chorus. Opera was merely the beginning for this pop loving songstress. Her love of Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, and Wham! would influence her future leanings into dreamy, electro-pop songwriting.
Upon graduating from high school, Johanna enrolled in a vocal jazz program at the Australian Institute of Music, where she graduated with honors. After a stint of performing across Australia, Johanna landed in New York City. Once in New York, she found herself as a studio engineer at the prestigious Nola Recording Studios. It was during her time at Nola that she began writing and recording over 300 demos. These demos would eventually lead her to her first album and the shimmering sounds she would go on to create.
Johanna had navigated her way through every aspect of the music industry, and she had finally revealed herself as an artist worthy of acclaim. She would soon find herself crisscrossing the globe, including a world tour with The Cranberries, as well as performing at Autre Magazine’s (James Franco and Adarsha Benjamin’s publication) Paris launch. However, she was constantly shifting and shaping her sound along the way. Her ethereal, “Kate Bush-inspired huskyisms”, as described by Time Out magazine, crystallized into the electro-pop culimination that is White Prism.

HANNI EL KHATIB SHARES "PAY NO MIND" VIDEO VIA NOWNESS

PLAYING THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN AUGUST 1ST

HEAD IN THE DIRT (PRODUCED BY DAN AUERBACH) OUT NOW VIA INNOVATIVE LEISURE

VIDEO: "Pay No Mind" - http://www.nowness.com/s/azii4r

Today Hanni El Khatib is sharing the video for "Pay Me No Mind," taken from his new Dan Auerbach-produced album Head In The Dirt. The video is directed by Simon Cahn, who recently co-directed short film 'Mourir Auprès de Toi' with Spike Jonze as well as directing Hanni's recent video for "Penny."

Speaking on his continued collaboration with Simon, Hanni said, "Simon has a very specific type of humor that he always injects in his work. I like it when creatives don't take themselves too seriously. "The video for 'Pay No Mind' is "all about having fun," says Cahn. "The idea for this video was to go for the opposite of rock 'n' roll imagery. I really wanted to do something unexpected for Hanni." The video comes in conjunction with the announcement that Hanni El Khatib will be performing on The Late Show with David Letterman on August 1st.
