“There is no denying that this could be an album of the year contender.” - HOT NEW HIP HOP “Cry Baby is a remarkably comprehensive look at the urgency, tumult and tension of present-day America — an impressive feat considering the album’s succinct runtime.” - BILLBOARD “Cry Baby, essentially a rock album, is instead a reflection and rebuttal to American instability writ large. It’s faster, louder, and brasher than anything he’s done since Big Fish Theory and even Big Fish Theory itself, with all its SOPHIE-produced clamour.” - PITCHFORK “A project full of things that undoubtedly need to be said and heard.” - EXCLAIM “It does not sound like what came before, but it feels exactly like where Staples was always headed — further out, more fearless and fully in control of the story he is telling.” - ROLLING OUT “He’s making some of the most arresting and interesting and original and compelling music in the world of hip hop and rap of any artist right now” - NPR “When it comes to documenting and assessing calamity, Vince Staples is one of the most adept rappers we have… His willingness to unflinchingly confront the moment has always made him stand apart — but it’s his genuine care for the future of Black people, and the future of this nation, that makes him such a welcome voice in the midst of chaos.” - CONSEQUENCE |
Fresh off the release of his acclaimed new album Cry Baby, iconic musician Vince Staples has announced a North American headline tour that will bring the record’s incisive themes and kinetic energy to audiences across the US and Canada this fall. As demonstrated on the live stream for his sold out record release show in Los Angeles, Vince is performing backed by a band, bringing the immediacy and urgency of the album into visceral clarity. The 16-date run kicks off October 19 at Atlanta’s Tabernacle and concludes November 15 at San Francisco’s The Warfield, with performances along the way in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Denver, and more with tickets on sale this Friday at 10am local time. The tour arrives on the heels of a landmark album campaign in which Staples unveiled a series of striking visuals for “Blackberry Marmalade,” “White Flag,” and “Cotton,” each expanding the themes and iconography of Cry Baby. Upon release, the album was quickly counted amongst the most critically acclaimed releases of the year by fans and critics alike. In the midst of it all, Vince has been demonstrating an unprecedented level of fan engagement, from manning the booth selling tickets at El Rey Theatre for his album release show, to inviting people to attend his band’s rehearsals at The Smell, clearly relishing the freedom of his burgeoning independent era. Firmly established as one of the most compelling voices of his generation, Staples continues to evolve both sonically and thematically. Following the introspective storytelling of Ramona Park Broke My Heart and Dark Times, Cry Baby widens its lens, confronting the cycles, contradictions, and emotional realities of contemporary America through sharp songwriting and a new musical approach built around live instrumentation. |
