"a record that feels as confrontational as it is cathartic, capturing Iguana Death Cult at a point of reflection and reinvention." -The Big Takeover
"With synth pushed to the fore over rebounding percussion and wirey guitar riffs, they still manage to wrap the message up in an enjoyable post-punk-funk fusion. If society’s going to the dogs, we might as well dance into the darkness, right?!" - Louder Than War
"'Oh No' captures the Dutch rockers’ manic universe of hyped-up garage rock" - American Songwriter
"Full of funky bass lines, rapid fills, a manic guitar and compelling vocals that sound like Devo if they’d gotten into spoken word [...] bold, barren, unbidden, yet welcome all the same." - Joyzine
"When your band name goes as hard as Iguana Death Cult you’d better damn well have the chops to back it up. Fortunately, this Dutch five-piece undoubtedly packs the muscle required, delivering potent guitar-forward manifestos bursting with angular attitude and a dash of casual nihilism that quickly enraptured audiences on both sides of the Atlantic." - Alt Citizen
"Like a tightly would Viagra Boys or Franz Ferdinand taking liberties with post-punk and 70s rock, the track is taut yet expansive, as the festival-friendly vocal melody and chorus entrance and energise the listener right from the off." - Analogue Trash
"'Pushermen' sees the band leaning into their penchant for careening garage rock, building on layers of tight and nervy guitar lines, shouted hooks, and raucous gang vocals. The resulting track recalls both the jagged post punk of Parquet Courts and the ironic sleaze of Viagra Boys, especially given its heavy dose of tongue-in-cheek lyrics." - Under the Radar
"Channeling Madness, New York No Wave, and The English Beat, this high-energy tune is manic, disjointed, and highly catchy. It perfectly captures the feeling of ADHD, leaping and jumping from rapid-fire call-and-response chants, sax solos, and a hypnotic staccato bassline to anchor the madness." - Post-Punk
"'Sensory Overload' is a blast of those spiky rhythms that we’ve come to expect from them, with wired and crazed saxophone blasts from legendary Dutch saxophonist Benjamin Herman that add another layer to their new wave sound." - Louder Than War
"Chaotic, frenzied, and decked out with just the right amount of saxophone, this track will appeal to fans of Parquet Courts and Sleaford Mods." - Glide Magazine
"The band seems to have come into its own, finding new life after its previous releases. It’s the art of reinvention, and it’s intriguing." -Ghettoblaster
"A slice of jittery sax fueled no-wave post punk from the Rotterdam quintet, try not to let this one get stuck in your head." - Full Time Aesthetic |

Today Dutch rock band Iguana Death Cult are sharing their highly anticipated fourth long player, Guns Out, via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
Alongside the release, the Rotterdam rockers are highlighting focus track, "Heavyweight," a thunderous, urgent, and groovy jam that mirrors the album’s themes of raw self-reflection about themselves and the world around them.
"The weight of the world is weighing down on us like never before. ‘Heavyweight’, as most of the songs on this album, laments about a growing sense of discomfort in one's own skin as one sees the world as we know it is coming to a halt and algorithmically designed divisiveness makes way for neofacism," the band explains.
"World leaders are mainly concerned with who’s the heavyweight champion and are willing to let you and your children die over their willy measuring contest. This might feel far from reality for people in the west like ourselves, but it won’t be for long. Is it eating away at you? Is it making you sick? Is it making you doubt every single thing you took for a fact and makes you wanna give up altogether? Well, you’re not alone. But good news! You don’t have to."
"Be a heavyweight champion of your own community, your neighbourhood, your own life. Help each other out, be a good friend. There’s so much value in that."
Guns Out marks a return to punchy garage rock and features honest self-reflection, addressing escapism, mental strain, and creative renewal. The result channels their early punk and garage roots, powered by Tobias Opschoor’s razor-sharp riffs, Uri Rennert’s (Häxxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre) relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s groovy rhythms and Jeroen Reek’s raw, emotive vocals.
On Guns Out, Iguana Death Cult is exercising self-reflection on multiple levels: by breaking with the more indie-like, art-punk-funk sound of their previous album (Echo Palace, released through Innovative Leisure in 2023), returning to a more ‘in your face’ punchy garage rock style. Tough yet introspective, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with its own evolution and the turbulent world around it.
"Heavyweight" and Guns Out are out April 10th via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society. |
