Today, White Fence releases the second single off his long-awaited new album, Orange: "Unread Books," a sweet song of postmodern heartbreak that's slung down and droning low. Penned with well-wired later stage Lennon vibes, Tim Presley's re-routed 50s/60s/80s pop values are transmitted to us with the hazed synths of Alice Sandahl (La Luz) and the shufflin' drums of Dylan Hadley (Kamikaze Palm Tree, Sharpie Smile). And it's a tear-jerker, whew: “No one changes their mind/their mind/Like you do” and “Take the un-Read books like you’ve done/and run.” Top!
What's White Fence been up to these past seven years, you ask? Only chiseling away at his most direct set of songs to date, that's what! Singing his heart out, pieces picked up and refracting like stained glass, Tim’s lyrics and chord progressions give up eleven fleeting glimpses from the other side of the 'Fence. Orange was produced by longtime collaborator Ty Segall, outfitting the record with Tim as foot-forward pop tunes for maximum rock ‘n roll. The rest is White Fence magik at its most dark, as Tim's restless free-allusivation transforms the cramped confines of heart wracked self-excoriation right before our eyes and ears.
