New Album Songs Of Douglas & Littell - Out Now
"...a rich mosaic of modern tones and sambas."
Jazz Weekly
"With subtle jazz inflections and an intimate singer-songwriter feel, “Tiny Girl” lets George’s voice carry the emotional weight of a deeply personal collaboration across time."
KCRW
"Three decades later, George’s warm feelings for that era — and especially for the duo who soundtracked it — have led to an exquisite new album, “Songs of Douglass & Littell,” on which she sets aside her own songwriting to interpret nine tunes by these under-the-radar veterans of West Coast musical theater."

March 25, 2026 - Los Angeles, CA: Inara George announces live dates in support of her album Songs of Douglass and Littell released last week. The set is a collaboration with longtime friends Eliot Douglass and Philip Littell, showcasing reimagined songs first written more than thirty years ago. Though best known for her work in folk-pop and indie pop, Inara has always been a musical shape-shifter with this album exploring a jazzier side.
Inara talks about being on the road: "With touring, I think all musicians, or most musicians have a love hate relationship with it. I remember when I was younger and touring all the time, I wouldn’t bother unpacking my toiletry bag, because I was always heading out again in a few days. It’s been so nice not being on the road all the time and to have spent time with my family and raising my kids... but now that my kids are older, they are like, ”Mom!! we want you to go on the road again, and we want to come!” So, that’s sweet. They want me to pursue my music a little harder than I have been, which I love, so I booked this tour to promote the album but, I also did it for kids to see me working."
Joining her on the road will be Eliot Douglass (Piano), Dan Schnelle (Drums), and JP Maramba (Upright Bass.) On the band, Inara says: "They are all incredibly talented musicians, and because of that, there is a freedom and looseness to the performances. There’s a lot of playfulness and adventurousness at the shows, which I think plays into the jazz slant of the music."
They'll also play songs from older albums and Inara says "The music all really seems to work very well together."

As a solo artist, Inara George has released the acclaimed albums All Rise and Dearest Everybody and she is one half of The Bird and the Bee, her long-running collaboration with Grammy winning producer Greg Kurstin. She is also a member of The Living Sisters alongside Eleni Mandell, Becky Stark, and Alex Lilly. Across these projects, her voice has been celebrated for its clarity, nuance, and emotional precision.
Inara’s connection to Philip Littell stretches back to childhood, she first met him at age seven at the Theatricum Botanicum, where her family was deeply woven into the theater’s creative community. Years later, Philip introduced her to his writing partner, Eliot Douglass, and together they enlisted her as an actor in one of their original plays within Los Angeles’s underground theater scene of the early 1990s. Littell has been recognized for his work as a librettist, penning lyrics for celebrated operas such as A Streetcar Named Desire and Girl With a Pearl Earring. His words explore the meeting point between vulnerability and wit, revealing the human heart in all its contradictions. Eliot Douglass is also a gifted composer and musician known for his adventurous harmonic sense and deep emotional resonance.
Much of the music on Songs of Douglass and Littell originated from No Miracle, A Consolation -a song cycle written by Philip, Eliot, and Eric Cunningham in the early 1990s that reflected the grief, resilience, and humanity of the AIDS crisis. These songs, written in that time, have found new life through Inara’s interpretations. For this album, she also invited her old friends to write new material, extending their creative conversation across decades. In one case, the song 'Tiny Girl'began with a composition Eliot had written as a teenager. Philip used this creative push and added biographical lyrics that reflect Inara’s own life and creative journey.
With Songs of Douglass and Littell, Inara set out to create something more reflective, an album inspired by the warmth of vintage jazz LPs, the intimacy of Brazilian classics like Elis & Tom, and the understated elegance of singers such as Helen Merrill, Astrud Gilberto, and Chet Baker.
The orchestrations by Jeff Babko give the songs both space and depth, while production by Mike Andrews and engineering by Alexander Thompson brings an immediacy and intimacy that draws the listener in. Remarkably, the album was recorded live over just three days, capturing the spontaneity and closeness of musicians gathered in a room together. “These days it is very rare to make music in this way...to simply capture what is being played in the moment. It’s a very exciting way to make an album. I felt so lucky to be in the studio with such talented people."
For Inara, this project is both a reunion and a reinvention. It reconnects her with the voices and friendships that shaped her as a young artist while revealing new dimensions. With Songs of Douglass & Littell, she not only honors the creative bond between Eliot Douglass and Philip Littellbut also brings these long-forgotten songs into the light: tenderly, joyfully, and with a sense of
homecoming.
