Breton producer QUINQUIS (aka Émilie Quinquis) has today shared the eor Remixes EP featuring three new remixes of tracks from her most recent album, eor, out now on Mute.
Luca Perry – producer, DJ and musical director for Romy and HAAi – has remixed one of the stand out tracks from the album, “Inkanuko” (feat. Desire Marea), surely the first track to be recorded in Breton and Zulu. Luca, a long-time friend of Émilie’s, has used their love of the Breton culture and language that QUINQUIS celebrates to create a stunning new remix.
Talking about working with QUINQUIS, Luca says, “QUINQUIS’ studio, on the beautiful remote island of Ushant, is one of my favourite places to create - surrounded by the sea, rocks, hills and stormy weather. Through these experiences I learnt more about the Breton language, culture and history around it, so when Émilie asked me to produce this remix, I knew I wanted to do these times we’ve shared together justice, creating an electronic sound world that still retains the natural feeling.”
They go on to explain, “I was so moved on hearing the original track - the vocal melodies from QUINQUIS and Desire Marea are so intricate, beautiful and fragile in places and I wanted to keep them in their entirety. I built a new sound world around them, with a nod to the club, while not taking away the magic of the original and the feeling it gives.”

The pair first met when they interviewed one another, talking extensively about preserving their cultural identities through their art, and since then, QUINQUIS has remixed Gwenno’s “Hireth” (from her latest album Utopia, out now on Heavenly Recordings). The third remix on the EP is from French DJ, producer, label head and artist Flore, who remixes the album’s closer, “Aet On.”
Listen to Flore’s remix of “Aet On” HERE. eor weaves together tales of mermaids, inspired by time Émilie spent sailing from her home island of Ushant to faraway places. The album features “Dec’h,” with its fabulous accompanying video directed by Vanessa Le Reste, a peek into what happened when a troupe of neon clad drag artists arrive on the island and transform one of its inhabitants, as well as “Inkanuko” (featuring labelmate Desire Marea), “Blaz an holen” (feat. Cerys Hafana) and the original version of “Morwreg.”
Émilie lives on Ushant Island, a landmass of six square miles off the coast of Brittany. Having learned to sail solo three years ago, a necessary act, she felt, to get home to the island and leave again on her terms, she kept going. She crossed the Irish Sea, circled the Scottish islands and Faroes, experienced the vulnerability and power of living in the elements. She kept imagining what could be in the waves around her, what visceral figures could have been forgotten by folklore, and how, with her instruments in tow, she could help bring these mermaid presences to the surface, hold them up for air.
The result is an album in which music provides succour among the shudders and swells. It shows QUINQUIS as an exceptional producer, and an extraordinary singer, musician and songwriter, creating tracks which ripple and flow, that torrent and break, full of propulsive visions and startling stories of the sea.
