Louis Carnell releases his first new music since 2024’s 111 series today. “torch his emblem, fear obtains laced dreams” is out now via Mute.
Listen to this deeply personal work, which weaves Carnell’s voice in several forms, with the power and emotion building along his delicate spoken word, rich resonating vocals and a reverberating intonating choir layer HERE.
After the loss of his Mother, Louis Carnell found himself drawn to a time that existed before, as he sought to find resolve, in reconsideration. Finding himself confronted by what it truly means to be alone - an only child without any immediate family - he chose to present his new work using one element, his voice.
Louis Carnell will host several live ‘in hope we must reside’ events. The shows will comprise of a live performance, presented together with photography by Carnell, artwork in collaboration with REMEMBER YOU WERE MADE TO BE USED and a jewelry collection designed with Phi Symbol.
The imagery was prompted by an encounter with a white pigeon on the day he heard the news of his Grandmother’s passing. Influenced by his Mum’s love of photography, a series followed, capturing these ‘spiritual embodiments, “Pigeon Angels.”
Louis Carnell’s 111 was a collaborative series that saw him work with Damsel Elysium, Keeley Forsyth, Lee Ranaldo, Ben Vince, Yasa Asmar, Coby Sey, KMRU, Okkyung Lee, Wu-Lu, Green-House, Daniel Miller, Laraaji, Marta De Pascalis, Leila, and Nailah Hunter across 15 tracks that are now available digitally and on double vinyl. Each track in the series is accompanied by one of three visual works by Arcin Sagdic (Maison Margiela, COMME des GARÇONS, Burberry) and Louis Carnell, extending Carnell’s visual collaborations that have included Daniel Sannwald, Frederik Heyman and Peter De Potter.
111 live events included performances at the ICA (on a bill with Keeley Forsyth, his first collaborator for the series), Café OTO and Stoke Newington Old Church in London, the Volksbühne in Berlin, Sheffield’s Gut Level, The Hague, Birmingham and Nottingham Contemporary. On 16 October, he will present 111 at Spazio in Marseille.
