With The Rocky Horror Picture Show celebrating its 50th anniversary this fall, HarperPop has just released ROCKY HORROR: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Cult Classic (Sept 30), a new volume from the legendary photographer Mick Rock (1948-2021).
Known as “the man who shot the seventies” for shaping the visual identities of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Queen, and Blondie, Mick was also the only photographer invited on set of Rocky Horror. His archive captures Tim Curry’s fearless Frank-N-Furter, Susan Sarandon’s ingénue charm, and the glittering chaos that transformed a flop into the world’s most enduring midnight-movie phenomenon. His images preserve the riotous moment when drag, glam, and punk collided in a visual language that still drives fashion and culture today.
Written by award-winning translator, writer, and editor, Tim Mohr (1969-2025).
The book includes rarely seen photos, Mick’s commentary, Pati Rock (Mick’s wife and longtime partner), and the foreword is penned by the Creator of Rocky Horror Richard O’Brien.
The book also features the cast along with reflections from Billy Corgan, Courtney Love, Juliette Lewis, Norman Reedus, GottMik, Jinkx Monsoon, Trixie Mattel, Peaches, Duff McKagan, Karen O,— alongside fashion/cultural figures Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, John Varvatos, Arianne Phillips, Pierre La Roche (RHPS/David Bowie makeup), and Sue Blane (RHPS costume designer).
