Initially founded by Sasha Sokolov and Evgenii Popov, and later joined by Lev Nikitin to expand the project’s electronic dimension, IWFYLS have become known for their immersive live performances—meticulously crafted audiovisual environments that are kinetic, unpredictable, and charged with near-physical intensity. Today, the cinematic three-piece share a new single, “Redshift”—an epic, textural journey that Popov notes was "mostly recorded while living on the island of Bali." True to IWFYLS’s ethos of bridging sound and vision, “Redshift” offers a fluid, immersive narrative that reflects on the nature of essence itself: “At some point, we realized that the texture often found in metal music—raw, forceful, overloaded—resonates deeply with the harshness of certain natural and cosmic phenomena. But we weren’t thinking of metal as a genre or cultural reference; we were drawn purely to its physical texture. There’s something in that rhythm, speed, and saturation that feels elemental—like flows of cold, directionless energy." Popov continues: “When I think about space, I don’t imagine the clean, sterile silence often portrayed in sci-fi. I imagine something much more aggressive—blurred, loud, overwhelming. Distortion in a diffuse, open sonic space evokes a kind of processed terror, something both natural and cosmic, but hard to put into words. In the past, people used synthesizers to represent the cosmos—but that language feels outdated now. We wanted to express that sensation differently: not through polished, futuristic sounds, but through overloaded textures. It’s not about space as a metaphor or aesthetic—it’s about expressing what it feels like to confront the unknown.” Without/Within centers on a deep exploration of consciousness—how it emerges, perceives, and divides the world into “inner” and “outer.” “Redshift” marks the second installment in that journey.
