- THE UGLY HUG

"Tense, taut, and unpredictable, Pry’s record Wrapped in Plastic is a blazingly confident debut."

- TURN AND WORK

NYC-based band Pry, the project of Simeon Beardsley and Amara Bush, are excited to unveil their debut album, Wrapped in Plastic, available everywhere now. The duo’s first full-length unfurls drum machines and memorable riffs across nine tracks, examining personal growth and past experiences with the help of catchy melodies and a plethora of influences.

Pry officially began releasing music in 2023 with “Don’t You Want To See.” They recently announced their forthcoming debut album Wrapped in Plastic, with singles “Tether You," Heaven,” “Greener” and “So Good” leading up to this month’s release. “Tether You” caught the attention of Pitchfork and made its way onto their Pitchfork Selects playlist shortly after its release. Pry has been hard at work on Wrapped in Plastic, creating a body of work that is sonically driven by soft and powerful vocals, hardcore guitar licks, and clean, jangly tones that evoke a nostalgic feel with a distorted and gritty energy.

ABOUT PRY:

After being introduced by a friend in 2023, Amara Bush and Simeon Beardsley hit the ground running. Bush had been learning bass and guitar during the pandemic and had songs written that she was ready to play, while Beardsley had been in DIY bands in New Mexico for nearly 15 years and was eager to start a project in New York. The duo began sharing demos and would meet to rehearse them with only the support of drum loops on their computer. Not long after, they recruited members for a full band and polished enough material for a live set. They have since solidified themselves as a powerful live act in Brooklyn’s vibrant music scene. Pry are easily distinguished by their wall of sound guitars and bass, out front synthesizer, groove-centered but explosive drumming, and catchy vocal melodies, with a tendency for broad dynamic shifts reflecting their variety of influences, which range from 90’s alternative rock and shoegaze to modern indie and pop.
