SECOND SELF [EP]

Today, multi-diamond and platinum-certified, GRAMMY®-nominated powerhouse, Julia Michaels unleashes Second Self, her boldest, sharpest, and most personal work to date. The six-song EP, released via her own independent label GFY Records, marks a powerful evolution for Michaels as both an artist and a businesswoman, stepping fully into her autonomy and unapologetically doing things her way.

Also revealed today, the official music video for focus track “Try Your Luck, a cheeky and cinematic highlight from this new chapter of hers. In it, Michaels hilariously auditions potential partners, each with an outrageous talent, from muscle flexing to ventriloquism to playing a tiny piano. What begins as a playful casting call quickly devolves into chaos, as the contestants are tested with everything from a loyalty challenge to a red-flag-themed dodgeball match where balls are marked with traits like “rude to waiters,” “owns 6 cats,” and “MAGA.”

Co-directed by Blythe Thomas and Julia Michaels, the video is the perfect marker of the moment, overflowing with her signature wit, charm, and no-BS perspective on love and dating.

Second Self features six razor-sharp tracks, “Heaven II,” “Scissors,” “Try Your Luck,” “F.O.O.L.,” “GFY,” and “Time”, that double down on Michaels’ gift for biting lyricism, honest storytelling, and disarming humor. It’s a coming-of-age moment for one of pop’s most influential writers, now untethered from major label expectations and finally making music on her own terms. That new direction was recently on full display when she took the stage with Maren Morris on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, debuting her new sound with fearless energy and style. Watch HERE.

A declaration of independence and self-definition, Second Self finds Michaels embracing vulnerability, embracing imperfection, and redefining success on her own terms. It’s fierce, flirty, cathartic, and entirely hers. Listen HERE.
