SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE has released a new album, YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING, via Saddle Creek and along with it a visualizer for stand out track “1/500”. Softer around the edges than their past, more angular work, YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING is generational, an album as emotionally wrought as it is sonically progressive. Their last release, 2023’s i’m so lucky EP, explored the breakup between Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede, setting the stage and emotional territory for the band’s fifth record, YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING. This latest offering is the most crystallized version of the band’s aesthetic, a continued meditation on the end of relationships and the unsteadiness that follows. It is a meticulous, beautiful, and quietly heartbreaking collection of songs. The album includes the previously released “LET THE VIRGIN DRIVE” along with double single “SOMETHING’S ENDING” / “I’VE BEEN EVIL”.

The band heads out on tour in support of the album next month. Kicking off September 24th at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall, the 22-date tour will hit Detroit, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, DC and more before wrapping up November 9th for a hometown show at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer. Support on the tour will include Winter and Kassie Krut (ex-Palm) on select dates. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

For the past decade, SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE has honed an aesthetic like no other. They’ve chopped up samples, chewed them up, spit them back out again, baby-birded it. Across four albums and a smattering of EPs, Zack Schwartz, Corey Wichlin, and Rivka Ravede have fully solidified their stance as some of rock’s weirdest and best deconstructionists. 2018’s Hypnic Jerks was a study in noise punk sampledelia. It was a breakthrough for the band. Frank Ocean became a fan, spinning “fell asleep with a vision” on Blonded Radio. 2021’s ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH was nasty dream pop by way of K-Mart realism and hitting the channel search setting on an old TV set. The album received critical acclaim across the board with Pitchfork’s Best New Music honors, as well as praise and support from The New York Times, FADER, Stereogum, and more and inclusion in Year End Lists with Pitchfork, Stereogum, Paste, FADER, SPIN among others.
