(Geneva Jacuzzi in Marfa by Scott Rodger)

“Dropping into some pure nostalgia as we bump this new track from Geneva Jacuzzi. The lyrical content is all about that one person who always steps up to steal the spotlight, take the attention…and probably ruin someone’s night. But, musically, it's pure glitzy pop, straight out of the Madonna playbook. The beat matches up with the punctuated vocal delivery of the verse, then the tonal vocal change certainly feels like it channels the old-school approach. There’s even some spoken word layering beneath, which definitely feels Madge-esque. A fun tune as you dance about and get ready to grab a copy of Triple Fire, out August 23rd via Dais Records.” - Austin Town Hall

Synthpop musician and artist Geneva Jacuzzi is back with the creeping single ‘Art Is Dangerous,’ from her upcoming third album Triple Fire, out August 23. While the title alone risks running trite, the chorus is a clever new, dark take on the cliché: ‘Art is dangerous, hang it on the wall.’” - The A.V. Club

“[“Art Is Dangerous”] is an all-caps agitprop statement of intent, delivered ice cold with one eyebrow raised. It’s the kind of synthy banger you could imagine coming out of NYC or LA in 1983, defining art in broad terms (“Dangerous,” “Scandalous”) before delivering the cutting ‘hang it on a wall’ in the refrain. It’s the kind of song where the video is inseparable from the music, and that features cameos from Weyes Blood, Drab Majesty, King Woman, Boy Harsher and more.” - Brooklyn Vegan (Indie Basement: Best Songs of June 2024)

“In every close-knit creative community, there’s always that person that’s determined to push their way into the spotlight, even if it means fucking over their ‘friends’ and splitting the scene apart. These are called ‘Scene Ballerinas,’ as L.A.-based artist Geneva Jacuzzi sings in her sardonic synth-pop tune. With a serpentine rhythm that mimics the shadowy motions of said snaky individual, it’s a track that captures the essence of these tragicomic clout-chasers, who have nothing better to do than start ‘stirring up a whirlpool of drama’ by ‘spinning lies [and] twisting stories.’” - The FADER (Songs You Need In Your Life)

“The Los Angeles-based multimedia artist’s latest single ‘Dry’ is a brooding yet swaying bit of ‘80s retro-futuristic synth pop, anchored around layers of glistening analog synth arpeggios and skittering beats paired with catchy, razor sharp hooks. Jacuzzi’s seemingly detached vocal singing about disconnection and uncertainty ethereally floats over the dreamy arrangement…‘Scene Ballerina’ Triple Fire‘s third and latest single continues a run of remarkably period specific, ‘80s inspired synth pop, with the song featuring glistening and arpeggiated synths, tweeter and woofer rattling 808s and catchy hooks serving as a lush yet dancefloor friendly bed for Jacuzzi’s expressive vocal. Sonically seeming to nod at a synthesis of Jane Child, I Feel For You-era Chaka Khan and Larry Levan house, ‘Scene Ballerina’ describes a very specific, attention craving personality that many of us have come across at some point or another.” - The Joy Of Violent Movement

“[“Dry”] channels retro-futuristic vibes into a rhythmically intense piece of retro synth that speaks to themes of disconnection and uncertainty…Intrepid explorers of the eccentric and the extraordinary, gather ’round for the wildest, most wondrous surreal synth pop spectacle… Geneva Jacuzzi has unveiled her video for the LP’s second single, ‘Art Is Dangerous,’ where the energy crackles with an ensemble of audacious artists from the heart of the Los Angeles underground scene…a group of unconventional experts in the auditory, visual, and performing arts. These individuals collectively showcase a display of unadulterated creative rebellion, each appearing as a cameo in a parade of pure artistic anarchy…The corruption of fame, the cost of clout chasing, and the madness of attention-grabbing antics are nothing new in Tinseltown. From Kenneth Anger’s tea-spilling tome Hollywood Babylon to Mommie Dearest, the OJ Simpson trial and its Kardashian aftermath, and today’s wave of vapid influencers hawking future landfill, Los Angeles has long been the hub of social climbing calamities. It’s a city where the glitter often masks the grime, and where everyone’s scrambling for their fifteen minutes of fame, even if it means losing their sanity…Geneva Jacuzzi’s new single, ‘Scene Ballerina,’ from her forthcoming album, Triple Fire, playfully mocks our celebrity-obsessed culture.”” - Post-Punk

Today the Los Angeles-based bedroom synth pop pioneer, DIY darkwave stalwart, multi-hyphenate renaissance artist & performer Geneva Jacuzzi shares new single “Laps of Luxury” with a visualizer just ahead of the release of Triple Fire, her third full-length and first since signing with Dais Records, out this Friday, August 23rd, 2024.

“Laps of Luxury” opens Triple Fire and sets the template – a strobe-lit dreamer’s delight of swaggering synth bass, Haçienda drum machinery, and sultry vocal spellcasting (“Tragic mysteries I’ve known for centuries / I burned all memories and turned to fantasy”).

Geneva Jacuzzi shares: “‘Laps of Luxury’ is one of my favorite tracks on Triple Fire. We spent the most time perfecting it in the studio. I was listening to a lot of Pet Shop Boys at the time and wanted to capture the light/dark ghostly dreamscape of castles and discos from another time. The lyrics are quite haunting and vague. The character is escaping in a car late at night. Processing the experiences that flood her mind and recounting them to the driver. ‘I’ve seen so many things/no one should ever see’… What did she see?!?! Poor thing. Obviously something unspeakable. One could only imagine.”

Geneva has a couple of select live events confirmed to celebrate the release of Triple Fire, starting with a hometown Record Release performance on August 31st at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, followed by a New York City event set to take place on September 18th at Elsewhere.

“Laps Of Luxury” follows July's single “Scene Ballerina,” which opens with the vivid lines: “As soon as the beat drops/You’ll never catch her standing still/ Overstimulation/ Twirling like a rumor mill.” The song’s release was accompanied by a gorgeous, captivating video directed by Thalia Mavros, inspired by their mutual appreciation for Ken Russell’s film ‘Women in Love’ and starring Geneva Jacuzzi as a desperate protagonist, making futile attempts to gain attention and admiration at a party surrounded by people who want nothing to do with her, again joined by co-stars Byron Adams and Peter Kalisch who appeared in the video for June’s “Art Is Dangerous.” “Scene Ballerina” was named one of The FADER’s Songs You Need In Your Life upon its release. Scorching lead single “Art Is Dangerous,” a mixture of sexy, sly, post-apocalyptic camp and Factory Records-esque drum machinery, flickering between the chic and surreal, was released with the announcement of Triple Fire, accompanied by an equally arresting yet celebratory video that Geneva created and stars in featuring numerous cameos from a variety of artists in her orbit, including Weyes Blood, Dynasty Handbag, Boy Harsher’s Jae Matthews, Mac DeMarco, Ron Athey, King Woman, Seth Bogart, and many, many more. According to Geneva: "I come from the lineage of Los Angeles's art and music 'underground,' which is quite special and full of incredible friends and people who motivate me. I’m a solo artist but I cherish my community of people who inspire me and wanted to share this debut with everyone." “Dry,” a piece of retro-futurist body music about disconnection and uncertainty, also appears on the album, originally released as a surprise single in April accompanied by a striking black & white video which features Geneva suspended upside down, referencing the Hanged Man in tarot.
