"With a sweet and earnest voice, Frembgen sounds a little like a twangy Mary Lou Lord."
- RIFF Magazine
“It’s hard to remember that not everybody’s gonna let you down, even though a lot of people do.” This refrain is a meaningful leap forward for Emily Frembgen who will release her brand new country-tinged indie-folk album No Hard Feelings on September 13 on Don Giovanni Records. The new collection explores Emily’s past and the echoes of alienation that inform her present. Lead single "Are You Listening?" was recently released to acclaim spanning BrooklynVegan to RIFF Magazine and today Emily is thrilled to share brand new Americana anthem “Drink Tonight”.
Emily shares, “Years ago a chef I had just met asked if I knew anybody who played Americana music for “Americana Monday” at his restaurant which was connected to Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. At the time my music wasn’t what you’d call “Americana” but I lied and said it was and secured the weekly gig and free fried chicken. I started rediscovering the music I loved in that genre and I wrote “Drink Tonight” as sort of an anthem, opening the show with it every week. I wrote it one Monday where I was resigned to not drinking but I got in a fight with my boyfriend and decided I would in fact drink on that night.”

Crafting the new album created space for Emily to delve into her family life for the first time, while also making sure to provide listeners with a stomping good time. “Frembgen” comes from the Old German for “little stranger,” and Emily is used to being one. Born in Denver to a single mother, Emily spent her childhood bouncing from Colorado to Baltimore then finally landing in New York City where she currently lives. She has shared stages with Ben Kronberg (Last Comic Standing), Jeffrey Lewis, Wayne Hancock, John Craigie, Daniel Rodriguez, and Paisley Fields. The video for her 2023 single “Fentanyl” was directed by Clare O’Kane (Saturday Night Live, Shrill).
