English indie rock band Art Brut recently released their 5 CD box set, And Yes, This Is My Singing Voice!, a comprehensive compilation of the South London art-rockers' career. Today, they share a B-side titled "Moving to LA (Acoustic)". Front man Eddie Argos recalls, "I did live in LA for a while, and I very nearly drank Hennessey with Morrissey. I saw him upstairs at the Troubadour at a The Duke Spirit show, and bought a glass of Hennessey for each of us but in the end I was too shy to approach him, so ended up drinking two glasses of Hennessey by myself stood slightly near Morrissey."
Perennial pop enthusiasts, Art Brut, recently released both a limited edition double compilation LP titled A Record Collection, Reduced To A Mixtape plus a 5 CD box set, And Yes, This Is My Singing Voice!. Both sets are out now via Demon Records and Edsel Box Set. |

Double LP set A Record Collection, Reduced To A Mixtape features tracks taken from their seminal albums Bang Bang Rock and Roll, It’s A Bit Complicated, Art Brut vs Satan, Brilliant! Tragic!, alongside rare live and alternate takes, all compiled by the band. Front man Eddie Argos explains, "For this compilation, I have hand picked a mix of mine and your favourite Art Brut songs. I've been looking at all your faces, and listening very intently when I ask 'Any Requests?' at live shows for the last 21 years so I'm pretty sure I know which ones are your favourites - and I have delivered. "Just Desserts" was for me, I really wanted to hear it on vinyl."
It serves as the first comprehensive career retrospective from Art Brut since the Top of the Pops album in 2014, and brings together the best and most well‑known tracks from their catalogue. The special edition (pressed on 140g marine green vinyl and limited to 500 copies) also features a liner note written by Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos, and a hand‑signed print.
In addition, the new 5 CD box set, And Yes, This Is My Singing Voice!, is the first edition of a two-part set: a comprehensive compilation of the South London art-rockers’ career, spanning their early discography, demo takes, alternative mixes and live recordings between 2003 – 2008. Says Argos, "I've compiled a very thorough scrapbook of Art Bruts first five years. It has all the self released 'Brutlegs', recordings with Russell Senior, the songs released on Rough Trade, our first two albums, a live album from Paris that I've just this second realised I should have titled 'That's in Paris', all our B-Sides (remember B-Sides?) and pretty much anything else we recorded in that period. I hid all my darkest secrets on our B-Sides so I'm excited for you to hear them."
The collection features the debut album Bang Bang Rock and Roll, their second studio album It’s A Bit Complicated, and also includes unreleased live material Art Brut – Live in Paris 2006 and Art Brut Live From ULU with Horns. The CD box set also comes with a 24 page zine, with a 2,000 word liner note from Art Brut frontman Eddie Argos and exclusive photography of the band. It includes a signed print of an original Art Brut artwork, painted by Eddie Argos. |
