Redcar (aka Christine and the Queens) today shares a cover of Arthur Russell’s “That’s Us / Wild Combination”. Listen to "That’s Us / Wild Combination"
This follows Redcar’s first performance of the song at an evening celebrating the life and work of the American visionary and composer Arthur Russell at London’s Barbican over the weekend. The event coincided with the release of author Richard King's landmark publication, Travels over Feeling: Arthur Russell, A Life, out now via Faber, celebrating 20 years of a pioneering body of work that defied classification and continues to influence the music of today.
In a review The Arts Desk shared of Redcar’s performance: “A real star turn came with Redcar (aka Christine and the Queens), in a synth-heavy version of “That’s Us/Wild Combination” that I immediately wanted to listen to again. It felt like he perfectly sent up the crooner image, with some excellent dancing that he brought out again at the end of the show.”
The evening recognised Russell’s enduring legacy, anchored by the stellar Speakers Corner Quartet and also joined by the likes of Cate Le Bon, Coby Sey, Loraine James, Nabihah Iqbal, Oren Marshall, Oscar Jerome, Sarah Tandy, Sheila Maurice-Gray, Tawiah, Tirzah, Trustfall and Lucinda Chua.
The release of his “That’s Us / Wild Combination” cover follows Redcar’s recent single “rentrer chez moi” and his operatic opus in two acts - Redcar les adorable etoiles (prologue) and PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE.
