May 3, 2024 (Chicago, IL) - Today, LA-based producer/vocalist/keyboard virtuoso omniboi announces his new EP Obscura, out June 14. The five-track EP is his second with Nettwerk, following last year’s Panorama.    While the two EPs thematically relate to one another, they veer off in terms of how they address these themes. Panorama (HERE) emphasized the importance of viewing the world from multiple perspectives at once, but Obscura is more esoteric and specific.   “It’s an anthological look at the variety of perspectives that are decidedly clouded or skewed or set in their ways,” omniboi shares.   Today, Omni shares new single “Crystal Clear,” his third from the EP following “Blind & Folded” and “Hurricane Hilary.” He describes the track as “a story about caprice in the face of change and growth.”   Born Omni Rutledge, omniboi grew up in various parts of Arizona. He notes that many major bands skipped over Arizona entirely on their U.S. tours, which played a role in driving him to the margins of music; some of the first concerts he attended were warehouse and desert raves. From there, he began cultivating a sound that he refers to as “kawaii future bass mixed with jazztronica,” taking strong influences from the Far East.    While not building out the world of Panorama and Obscura, Omni has brought his musical talents on the road, worked on a video game soundtrack and even embarked on a mission to find the best pizza slice in LA. Last fall, Omni toured the East and West Coasts with alternative R&B artist Ehiorobo, playing historic venues such as NY’s Public Records and LA’s Resident. In the video game world, Omni composed the score for “We Are OFK,” which was recently nominated for a Peabody Award in the Interactive/Immersive category.    The electrifying, synth-heavy music of Obscura continues to defy categorization. Some tracks might fit in a video game, while others feel like game show theme songs, and others feel like late night karaoke sessions. ABOUT OMNIBOI   Los Angeles-based omniboi is here to tell stories through his music. Born in Mesa, Arizona, the composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist was playing in bands and toying with FL Studio as early as 2005. He grew to prominence at the height of the SoundCloud era in the early 2010s, gaining notoriety for his exuberant, cherubic Chiptune edits and originals. Dabbling with different electronic arts softwares always came natural to Omni, who had a hunger to learn any art form he could get his hands on. It wasn't until he stumbled upon a viral video of Madeon, who also used the FL Studio workstation, that he began to take production seriously.   In 2016, omniboi released his debut EP, Nice Dream. Tracks like "BonBon" and "Sugar Glider" were widely successful, garnering millions of streams, as he continued to showcase his bubbly production style. He kicked off 2017 with a soulful remix of Migos’ “Bad and Boujee,” which quickly went viral on Twitter and received critical acclaim from The FADER (“Your music teacher would approve”), Mashable (“Sometimes, you're given a gift you didn't even know you wanted until it's in your hands”) and more. The video introduced many to Omni’s signature style: a pair of white gloves, a bow tie and a pair of thick-rimmed glasses (“When I was younger, my glasses kept breaking, so my mom had me get the most durable pair possible”).
