Today, Swedish artist, producer and metaphysical visionary Varg2TM continues to redefine the blueprint of electronic dance music with the official announcement of his long awaited new album Nordic Flora Series Pt. 6: Outlaw Music, out April 4th via influential indie label YEAR0001. Outlaw Music, the magnum opus of Varg2TM's Nordic Flora Series is bold and ambitious but most of all it's maniacally tender through all the anxiety as ‘Swedish EDM’s Bad Boy’ dares to continue disrupting expectations of what dance and pop music will sound like for the forthcoming years. This announcement also comes with a new double-single release from Varg2TM that includes his tracks "Illusions 1996” & “Pose1don" featuring Joon Gloom, Yung Sherman and Woesum along with a new music video - WATCH HERE.
The two new tracks further expand Varg2TM’s architect-like creative process where genre imposed limitations are rebelliously disregarded as he draws inspiration from rap, EDM, trance, industrial techno, and ambient compositions to pave an emotional ride listeners might not expect at the ground level. Ethereal synth chords and Joon Gloom’s angelic vocals over distorted noise frequencies and an abrasive kick drum on “Pose1don” bring a new sense of beauty and tranquility to a chaotic soundscape highlighting Varg2TM’s masterful ability to evoke emotion with an unconventional sound palette. The single’s gloomy visual pulls from the track’s melancholia and mystique as lofi clips of Joon and Varg2TM embracing one another on a rainy night interrupt the eerie scenery of a desolate city. The still sense of emotion evoked by “Pose1don” is then contrasted on “Illusions 1996,” which comes as a hard hitting dance floor banger fueled by a furious breakbeat and thunderous sub-bass. Playful vocal samples weave in between squealing arpeggios and rapid melodies to invoke a rushed sense of euphoria associated with a chaotic night out. Earlier this month, Varg2TM teamed up with frequent collaborator and Drain Gang rapper/producer/designer Thaiboy Digital to give fans an early preview of the album with their single “Hitty” -WATCH HERE. Nordic Flora Series Pt. 6: Outlaw Music comes as the sixth installment of Varg2TM’s Nordic Flora Series and was co-produced and mixed by Yves Rothman (Amaarae, Yves Tumor, Blondshell, Eartheater). Originally started in 2016, the series gave rise to Varg2TM’s signature anarchic sound where trap and EDM are rebelliously meshed with ambient and electric-acoustic experimentation without concern for the limitations imposed by conventional genres. The series fed directly into the creation of the prolific producer’s own label Cease 2 Exist, which was inaugurated in 2020. Giving space to explore frenetic hyperpop crossed with trap, and all the while nodding to Sweden's EDM culture, Varg2™ has made perfect sense of his incomprehensible mix of collaborators and tastes. With his twisting cutting edge aesthetic and taste for wry melancholy, along with slew of culture shifting features including the likes of Eartheater, Skrillex, RX Papi, Bladee, Ecco2K, and more, Varg2TM is sure to have a breakout year and solidify himself as one of the most influential artists on the future of pop music’s landscape for the forthcoming generations ahead. |
