(24th January) – Bristol based indie risers My First Time continue their ascendancy today with the release of new single "Workwear", their second since signing to Submarine Cat Records (FEET, Home Counties, She's In Parties), following October 2023's debut single "Wind Up Merchant".

With driving guitar hooks and waspish vocal lines that capture observations of modern society and all its idiosyncrasies, My First Time package these ingredients into three minute post-pop nuggets.

Having forged a reputation for their riotous live show with numerous sold out headline dates in Bristol, as well as sharing stages with some of the most exciting new bands in the country including The Last Dinner Party, Picture ParlourEnglish Teacher, Lip Filler amongst others - their youthful charm has also captured the imagination of Matt Wilkinson (Apple Music 1), Steve Lamacq and Amy Lamé (BBC 6 Music), John Kennedy (Radio X) and James Threlfall (BBC Introducing) - all of whom have given the band a firm seal of approval.

New single "Workwear" challenges the trap of consumerism facing the youth of today. Dissected through the voices of three distinct characters; amidst blasts of wiry guitar refrains and rambunctious percussion, vocalist Isaac Stroud-Allen's sharp witted, fresh-faced quips are delivered with infectious enthusiasm.

Speaking more on the inspiration behind the new single, the band shared:

"Workwear’ focuses on the bizarre effect a few words or logo on a piece of clothing can have on people's behaviour. When a model poses in a t-shirt that we’ll never look as good in, but we buy it anyway hoping we will! The song adopts the voices of three personas; ‘the over spender’, ‘the worried mother’ and the ‘marketing executive”. Overconsumption, consumerism, relentless advertising and body dysmorphia are constant companions for our generation."

Based in Bristol where the four band members met studying, Isaac, Jordanna, James and Niamh all originally hail from the surrounding counties and South Wales. Despite keeping a low-profile on social media and not releasing any music until late 2023, word of mouth led to their first demos being played on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, with their early local headline shows selling out and one die-hard fan even going as far as getting the band’s logo tattooed on their leg.

My First Time's connection with their staunch young fanbase is born out of a shared energy for having fun at shows and relatable lyrical tales of youth, cheap thrills, and hoping for change.

My First Time's new single "Workwear" is out now on Submarine Cat Records
My First Time are Isaac Stroud-Allen (guitar/lead-vocal), Jordanna Forsey (drums), James Mellen (guitar/vocal) and Niamh Jones (bass/vocal).
