Louis Carnell Continues '111' Series With Cobey Sey Collaboration "five"

Photo credit: Niko Studio   Today Louis Carnell has shared his collaboration with London-based artist and producer Coby Sey, the latest in his ongoing series, 111. Their new work together, “five” is out today on Mute: https://youtu.be/dyHdaQbks1s Coby Sey is a producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist from Lewisham, London, offering a shifting, disorienting post-genre vision. Listed as 'One To Watch' by The Guardian, Sey has collaborated with Tirzah, and Mica Levi and his debut album, Conduit, was described by Pitchfork as flickering between “dream-pop boom-bap, industrial-grade noise, and densely collaged epics that are part free-improv jam, part volcano.” 111 is a curatorial statement from one of the UK’s most elusive artists, drawing on visual, recorded and live performance. The series will see 15 collaborations in total, each unfolding as a cycle of single releases, each created with a diverse selection of artists from across the globe. Louis Carnell conceived of 111 as an endeavor to trace the shape of hope in an epoch of disintegration. A new track will emerge on every third Tuesday, with the launch for each creating an environment for the listener to explore the series, without hierarchy, with the aim to question how and with whom we collaborate and where we can find commonality and community. Carnell’s work has deep in its heart a concern with both the physical and digital environments where he finds himself. His use of sound to interrogate social structures and hierarchy see him at the forefront of tackling themes of anxiety and the connotations of masculinity and race through the entanglement of introspection. His meticulous attention to the visual world has resulted in collaborations with Arcin Sagdic, Daniel Sannwald, Frederik Heyman and Peter De Potter and his recent curated events have included performances at Café OTO, London and the Volksbühne, Berlin, more to be confirmed. Her new album, a deeply personal piece that uses her grandmother’s accordion and her grandfather’s reel-to-reel recordings of birds, Synth Waltzes And Accordion Laments, is out now on Hive Mind. Ben Vince is an experimental saxophonist and composer who works with improvised live-looping saxophone and has collaborated and worked with artists including Joy Orbison, Coby Sey, Cucina Povera and Jacob Samuel. Lee Ranaldo is an artist, producer and co-founder of Sonic Youth. He has a  solo discography that spans three decades, with his most recent releases Electric Trim, Names of North End Women and In Virus Times, all on Mute. Outside of his own musical compositions, Ranaldo has also produced albums for several bands, written numerous books and exhibited his audiovisual work at a variety of galleries and museums around the globe. Keeley Forsyth is a composer, singer, and actor from Oldham in the northwest of England. Built upon sparse arrangements, Forsyth’s music is centered around a singular, emotionally-raw and magnetic vocal delivery, equal turns devastating and uplifting.
