In 1983, Robert Pollard was working at Lincoln IGE elementary school in Dayton, Ohio, teaching fourth graders by day and writing rock songs by night. The fledgling Pollard enlisted some of his high school buddies and formed Guided By Voices. Forty years and thousands of songs later, Guided By Voices has endured to become one of America’s most seminal rock bands. To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the band is playing a series of two sold out concerts (tonight and tomorrow) at the Dayton Masonic Center alongside indie rock peers Dinosaur Jr, Built To Spill, and Heartless Bastards, and up-and-comers Kiwi Jr. and Wednesday.
In addition, the band is finally putting its first official release, the 1983 EP Forever Since Breakfast, on streaming services this Friday, September 1. The initial entry in Pollard’s bottomless catalog shines a light on the preternatural songwriting abilities that have been apparent since the very beginning of his career. The EP is available to stream at the link here: https://lnkfi.re/foreversincebreakfast.
Earlier this summer, Guided By Voices shared their second release of 2023, a full-length record entitled Welshpool Frillies, which was preceded with two highly praised singles, "Seedling" and "Meet The Star." Before that, the band's first album of 2023, La La Land, was Uncut Magazine's Best of the Month. In their 40th year, it's never too late to discover this vital rock band and join the GBV cult.
Guided By Voices' newly uncovered EP, Forever Since Breakfast, is out now on all DSPs via GBV Inc. Stay tuned for more from Guided By Voices, coming soon. |
