TAV FALCO, AN ENIGMATIC SHOWMAN OF ROCK AND BLUES, ANNOUNCES "RIDE THE SNAKE" U.S. TOUR
Opening all dates will be the Italian instrumental trio of Mario Monterosso, Giuseppe Sangirardi, and Walter Brunetti, known as Panther Burns, who will also perform alongside Falco; plus, special guests at select shows
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 19, 2023 — Tav Falco and his band Panther Burns today announce dates for a fall American tour. Falco began his musical career in Memphis in 1979 and in the ensuing years has recorded over a dozen albums and numerous singles. He has been cited as an influence by such rock luminaries as Primal Scream, the Fall, Spiritualized, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. In recent years, Falco has been backed by a trio of Italian musicians for both recording and live dates. The "Ride the Snake" tour will include favorites from throughout his four decades of recordings.
The most recent addition to Falco’s discography is Nashville Sessions: Live at Bridgestone Arena Studios, released on vinyl and digital last month by ORG Music. At the invitation of SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel, Panther Burns recorded a 14-song studio session on September 27, 2022. The musical lineup included Falco on vocals and guitar, Mario Monterosso on lead guitar, Giuseppe Sangirardi on bass, and Walter Brunetti on drums. The set was engineered by Stephen Turney and originally broadcast as “Cabaret of Daggers Special” on SiriusXM Outlaw Country (Channel 60) on October 29.
Nashville Sessions captures Panther Burns at their peak—during last year’s acclaimed U.S. tour—and is a rollicking ride which includes original material alongside several reimagined covers. The band’s signature blend of rock and roll, blues, and tango is swaggering and dynamic. The set features a song new to Falco’s repertoire, “Treat Me Nice,” originally penned by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller for Elvis Presley. Between-song commentary from Falco, cut from the vinyl LP due to space limitations, is included on the digital edition. Both the digital and vinyl editions feature an option to download a 45-minute video tour diary from last year. The vinyl also includes a poster designed by Gary Taxali.
Opening all dates on the "Ride the Snake" tour will be Monterosso, Sangirardi, and Brunetti performing selections from Monterosso's 2022 instrumental solo album, Take It Away, also on ORG Music. Additional special guests will appear on select dates.
“The latest version of Tav Falco’s Panther Burns was strangely mesmerizing and altogether rocking thanks largely to his straight-outta-Rome backing trio led by Mario Monterosso,” wrote Roger Catlin in a concert review for The Vinyl District last year. “Falco doesn’t look all that different then he did when Alex Chilton joined forces with him to form Panther Burns back in Memphis. He’s maintained his black pompadour, and certainly his style.”
