"Led by intense yet melodic pop-tinged instrumentation, the track strikes an intricate balance between the tenderness and danger of handing over the reins of our lives to someone else."
EARMILK

"'Control' packs big, fuzzy and clean guitar hooks, a grooving rhythm section and layered, atmospheric & hypnotic vocals."
Pilerats

"Occasionally, we come across a band that feels like we’ve known them forever. Their music seems to have a deja vu effect, mirroring our past follies, fun-seeking behaviors, and bittersweet relationships. You Said Strange, a Giverny, France-based quartet is just that, a band new in statute but at home in the back pocket of all your recent ebbs and happy errors, an indie band that, well is properly, that."
Ones To Watch

"Contains the shoegaze buzz of DIIV along with the acrobatic new-wave sensibilities of Deerhunter."
Glide Magazine

"Melancholy alt-rock played in an understated direction, You Said Strange’s latest single '(Song For A) Wasted Land' takes the French band’s shoegaze template and tightens it up into the closest thing to a pop tune the band has released yet."
Operation Every Band

"When you smell cigarette smoke, you'll be there, in that studio, thinking deeply about the downfall of the world - and the brilliant new band you've just found."
No Taste

"A captivating and confident swagger-fueled slice of post-punk and dreamy rock that channels the swagger of Shame and Viagra Boys, just with a more 80s-esque atmosphere and composition."
We All Want Someone To Shout For

At the end of 2022, French psychedelic noise-pop quartet You Said Strange shared a new LP entitled Thousand Shadows Vol.1, a release consisting of psychedelic pop, proto grunge, and shoegaze sonics, inspired by the band's experiences on tour across Europe and North America that year. Now, You Said Strange have announced the impending release of a follow-up to Vol. 1 entitled Thousand Shadows Vol. 2 (due April 28, 2023 via EXAG / Le Cépe Records). Together, both Volumes compose the band's sophomore LP.

"A second chapter was needed to highlight the many shadows that still linger everywhere," said the band. "The shadows that linger on the borders, hiding the violence of the fights for them. The shadows that time has on relationships and their persistence, because the shadows move."

Amidst themes of shoegaze, noise pop, and psychedelic rock throughout the upcoming release, You Said Strange incants their music in which melancholy, love, and the search for plenitude meet. As the band continued: "Plato's cave, in a modern version, would be one of toxic relationships, antidepressants, and the acceptance of the regression of freedom and/or the vision of a dying world..."

In anticipation of their forthcoming LP — and as a follow-up to their most recent single, "(Song For A) Wasted Land" — today, You Said Strange return with a second single entitled "Control."

Speaking on the track, the band wrote:

"The newest single from these Thousand Shadows, 'Control,' addresses the forgetfulness of self in simple or harmful relationships. The dangerousness of spirits in search of redemption whatever the cost, even if it means giving the reins of their lives to anyone, from the most tender to the most dangerous of beings. Chopped, tense instrumentation mixed with melodious and pop lines unveil this idea with modesty and strength."

In celebration of their forthcoming album, You Said Strange recently returned to the United States for a handful of March tour dates, including a few shows at SXSW in Austin, TX and an appearance at Treefort Festival in Boise, ID. Stay tuned for future live dates.

You Said Strange's newest LP, Thousand Shadows Vol. 2, is out April 28, 2023. Stay tuned for more, coming soon.
