PRESS ON DINNER PARTY
"It’s not every day you run into a supergroup as exciting as Dinner Party." – HYPEBEAST
“This follows Dinner Party’s string of success over the past few years since they debuted. The band received a Grammy nomination in 2022 for Best Progressive R&B Album for their project Dinner Party: Dessert. If they continue down this path… more nods could be on the horizon.” – UPROXX
“Each of the three members have a unique musical talent that deserves the accolades they have received…together, they have established themselves as one of the best groups in the entertainment industry.” – ESSENCE
The word “supergroup” has gotten thrown around loosely over the years, and sometimes the collected resumes don’t always add up to that distinction. But that is … very much not the case with Dinner Party. The new band is the project of Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder. These guys have spent their whole careers eliding the boundaries between jazz, soul, and rap, and that’s exactly the intent with Dinner Party – STEREOGUM
“This group is full of musicians who have been leading the jazz/hip hop crossover moment for years” – BROOKLYN VEGAN “One of the most formidable supergroup lineups imaginable...Dinner Party’s self-titled debut is a seamless-sounding project, seven songs that sit in the sweet spot between 9th Wonder’s throwback beats, Glasper’s mellow keys, and the two saxophonists’ melodic digressions. ” – THE FADER
Today, the multi-faceted, Grammy-nominated supergroup Dinner Party has released their highly anticipated new album, Enigmatic Society. Full of opulently intricate instrumentation and a range of sleek R&B to smooth neo-soul vocals, Enigmatic Society is mesmerizing in its entirety. The album features brilliant performances from the debut Dinner Party crew: Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington and 9th Wonder, with additional help vocalists Phoelix, Arin Ray, Ant Clemons, Tank and producers Sounwave, Hi-Tek and Trevor Lawrence Jr. Enigmatic Society serves as a follow up to the group’s 2020 debut self-titled album and continues as a celebration of Black joy, life, art, and culture, as it pays tribute to the duality that manifests in both the beauty and adversity in Black America. This deep sense of community and family flows throughout the project with the album’s artwork designed by Kamasi Washington’s sister, artist Amani Washington.

Enigmatic Society arrives just a week after the release of single “For Granted (feat. Arin Ray).” Dinner Party collaborated with resident producer 9th Wonder and neo-soul singer Arin Ray for this track and has already received press love from Pitchfork, HYPEBEAST, Uproxx, Essence, Consequence, Stereogum, VIBE, Okayplayer, SPIN, REVOLT, and more. The album was additionally preceded by “Insane (Feat. Ant Clemons),” which served as the debut single from Enigmatic Society. Teaming up with Grammy-nominated R&B singer-songwriter Ant Clemons and Grammy-winning producer Sounwave, the track quickly garnered attention from HipHopDX, HYPEBEAST, American Songwriter, BET, Consequence, Stereogum, VIBE, SPIN, Brooklyn Vegan, and more.
Dinner Party is set to perform the next two weekends at Coachella and will be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 17. The group’s previously released self-titled EP Dinner Party gathered nods from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The FADER, Stereogum, Pitchfork, Essence, Hot New Hip Hop, Brooklyn Vegan, FLOOD, Uproxx, Complex and more. Soon followed by a reimagined version titled Dinner Party: Dessert, that received a Grammy nomination in 2022 for Best Progressive R&B Album and featured Cordae, Herbie Hancock, Buddy, Bilal, Tank and the Bangas, Punch, Rapsody, Reuben Vincent, Malaya, Alex Isley, and Phoelix. With each release, they continue to expand upon the uplifting and euphonious soundscape they have expertly crafted by consistently giving back to their community with an expression of joy, fun, and laughter without ego.
Each prodigious member has the musical pedigree that deserves the accolades they have received. Terrace Martin, a 5-time Grammy-nominated artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, was featured heavily on Kendrick Lamar's good kid, M.A.A.D. city and To Pimp A Butterfly, along with contributions to recent projects from Travis Scott, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock and more. 5-time Grammy winner and 12-time Grammy-nominated producer and pianist Robert Glasper— who has been a major force in music for decades— most recently won a Grammy for Best R&B Album at last month’s awards show, as well as film, including his Grammy win for the soundtrack to Miles Ahead and an Emmy for his contribution to "Letter To The Free" from Ava Duvernay's documentary 13th. Kamasi Washington is a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer whose three bodies of work to date are among the most acclaimed of the past decade. In 2020, Washington scored Becoming—Netflix's film profiling First Lady Michelle Obama—and was nominated for Grammy and Emmy awards for his contributions.
