Martin shares his vision of the track stating, “The song ‘Chucks’ is a sonic picture that represents New Los Angeles. The driving pulse of the song represents the tempo of traffic, the bass line is the attitude of a true Angeleno, the space that Channel commands with his vocals closely relates to the motion of water. At the end of the day it’s goin’ to make you move and feel good about being alive.” Channel Tres adds, “For me, this record ‘Chucks’ is about reminiscing and grieving my past. I grew up on Long Beach Blvd and a lot of things took place there. I remember the donut shop, the car wash, the Compton swap meet, and I tried to best articulate that feeling with space and groovy production. Chucks were also my choice of shoe growing up, they cost 25 dollars at the swap meet, and they looked good. I had a bunch of them.” LISTEN TO “CHUCKS (FEAT. DRONES struck a chord with press - Rolling Stone saying, “The music of Terrace Martin is all about warmth” and Stereogum noting, “The songs blur the lines between jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, reflecting contemporary West Coast Black music and Black life in all its joy, pain, chaos, and cool.” LISTEN TO THE GRAMMY-NOMINATED ALBUM DRONES HERE: https://TerraceMartin.lnk.to/DRONES Martin will help to usher in the 2023 return of Dinner Party, the supergroup of friends and fellow industry titans Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder. Dinner Party is set to perform at Terminal 5 in NYC on March 9th as well as Coachella in April. The group previously released their self-titled EP Dinner Party in 2020 followed by a reimagined version titled Dinner Party: Dessert, that featured Cordae, Herbie Hancock, Buddy, Bilal, Tank and the Bangas, Punch and Rapsody, alongside newcomers Reuben Vincent, Malaya and Alex Isley, plus vocals from resident Dinner Party guest Phoelix. Terrace Martin has been a guiding force in contemporary music for more than a decade. Beginning at a young age, Martin was an exceptional instrumentalist; from the drums, to piano, to the saxophone, Martin’s talents have known no bounds. Naturally, his skills took him to Hollywood where he made his big break producing for Power 106 Radio. This rush of success prompted Martin to create his debut album Signal Flow in 2011. Since his first record, Martin has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt, Wiz Khalifa, Too $hort, Ty Dolla $ign, Ab-Soul, The Game, Travis Scott, Busta Rhymes, Stevie Wonder, and more. Martin’s discography consists of over 10 complete records, not including pieces he contributed, produced, or featured on. One of Martin’s most successful feats was collaborating with Kendrick Lamar early on in Section.80 and then in both Grammy-nominated albums good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp a Butterfly.
