"Dear Bo Jackson’s strong Southern influences are what give it its power. From mournful, compressed guitars to the low ramble of bass and occasional whistle of synthetic organ, the Weeks use the album to pay homage to their Mississippi roots, while staying decidedly modern and finally finding a middle ground between the dynamic discrepancies of previous albums. The final product is seasoned with experiential wisdom and textured with layers of playful gang vocals and woe-begone chord changes. More importantly, this retrospective step in their music is ironically a step forward in the maturation of the band’s sound."
Vox Magazine

"Complete with kick-ass choruses and resolute refrains that guarantee and immediate impression. It isn't a matter of insurgence; to the contrary. The Weeks convey the immediacy of everyday concerns with a desire to unfurl their frustrations in ways others can relate to [...] The Weeks fully charged and flush with brash exuberance. Ultimately, [they] are an everyman ensemble railing about reality, with the riveting hooks needed to corral their concerns."
Relix

"To further emphasize the communal vibe, these songs aren't dominated by guitar solos. Rather, like R.E.M., the playing interweaves an occasionally light funk with a tight Southern indie-rock slant and emo-inflected attitude."
American Songwriter

"A clean and hard-hitting sound to surround the emotional thoughtfulness in the lyrics that capture the feelings of budding and brooding flirtation."

Following the announcement of a one-off 2023 date at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl, today, Mississippi rock outfit The Weeks — Cyle Barnes (lead vocals), Cain Barnes (drums), Samuel Williams (guitar, vocals), Damien Bone (bass) — announce a full-length 2023 North American tour, commemorating the 10th Anniversary of their seminal record, Dear Bo Jackson.

Reflecting on Dear Bo Jackson and recalling its immediate impact on The Weeks' trajectory, 10 years down the road, guitarist Samuel Williams wrote:

"In a blink, it’s been 10 years since we dropped ‘Dear Bo Jackson. In a lot of ways, it’s our first album. After 16 years, there’s always a lot of context behind every release, and Dear Bo (as we’ve affectionately called it for a decade) is the mark of the beginning of our *professional* career. In hindsight, our prior releases came to be more as collections than a proper album. We labored and toiled over Dear Bo Jackson for what felt like ages; demoing, more demoing and reimagining all the way to the August 2012 sessions with Paul Moak that yielded the album. For better or worse, in the age of features and collabs, we’ve remained loyally insular, but this album is the lone deviation. We invited dozens of our first Nashville friends to sing, play, and sometimes just bang on drums and yell. The works. The kitchen sink. 'Our Sgt. Pepper.'

In the end, we played over 1000 shows behind Dear Bo Jackson between 2013-2015 supporting this album. This album gave us our first taste of the full US and Europe, with so many friends and fans added along the way. For that, I will always be indebted to Dear Bo Jackson."
