PRESS PRAISE FOR DODIE

"The songs of Essex singer Dodie Clark are both delicate and intricately detailed, with gossamer voices that levitate over fluttering sonic wonders and sudden, often breathtaking shifts." NPR

“Dodie’s songs radiate transparency… While her lyrics are full of self-doubt and second guesses, her music is precise.” THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Such is dodie's beyond-her-years mastery of her craft: Over a simple, spare chord progression, she can use an economy of words to twist the knife.” THE RECORDING ACADEMY

“Quietly devastating” THE GUARDIAN

“Music to listen to closely, feel deeply, and champion loudly” - 9/10, THE LINE OF BEST FIT

Today, dodie releases her new EP Hot Mess, featuring singles “Got Weird”“Hot Mess” and today’s new single “Lonely Bones”Hot Mess is an intimate look into dodie’s world in the period following the release of her #3 charting 2021 debut album Build A Problem, and was inspired by a project she began to write and record a song documenting each month of the year.

Of the new EP, dodie explains:

Hot Mess is exactly that - a steaming, conflicting pile of raw ideas and feelings: heavy confessions, manic patches matched with seemingly stable moments of realization and acceptance, painted with flickets of disassociated spiraling. I am lost! I am confused but trying and I accept myself and hate myself simultaneously while doing so.”

About one of the EP’s most tender moments, “Lonely Bones”, she adds:

Lockdown 2020 had me spending a lot of time alone, dabbling in dissociation, depression, and making furious promises to make sure life would be different soon. I felt feral! Manic, running on absolute fumes. I loved the idea of writing a gang vocal section that sounds like it should eventually be sung amongst friends and drinks and good vibes - but written from a much lonelier past.”

The release of dodie’s new EP Hot Mess follows her debut album Build a Problem, and unpacks the flawed, emotionally erratic, wondrously complex conundrum that is being alive. Late 2021 and early 2022 saw dodie tour the UK and North America, with two sold out theater shows at the Ace Hotels in LA and a sold out Kings Theatre in New York, and the UK leg culminating in a triumphant show at London’s Eventim Apollo.

At 27, dodie has already done a lot of living. Some of that she has played out online as she made a name for herself as a singer and writer, amassing millions of fans with her disarmingly honest and affecting, intimate singing style. dodie has amassed over 1 billion streams to date. With 7 million followers across all platforms, she’s sold out over 100 consecutive shows globally with performances on Late Night with Seth Meyers and Sunday Brunch, and has become an ambassador for Depersonalisation charity Unreal.
