WHAT:

Stern Grove Festival, the oldest music festival in the San Francisco Bay Area, has returned for the Summer of 2022 marking its 85th Anniversary at Sigmund Stern Grove, a historic park and concert meadow located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard that offers an unparalleled outdoor setting for music lovers of all ages.

Although the Festival continues to be free for attendees of all ages, guests must register in advance to reserve a spot for each concert at www.sterngrove.org. Online ticket reservations open at 2:00 p.m. PT exactly 12 days prior to each Sunday event.

To close out the summer of festivities, Stern Grove Festival will host The Big Picnic on Sunday, August 14 featuring performances by Phil Lesh & Friends. The Big Picnic is a fundraising event benefiting Stern Grove Festival and its mission to present free concerts and community outreach programs to the Bay Area.

Lesh’s performance at Stern Grove Festival 2022 will mark the first admission-free concert in his hometown in the San Francisco Bay Area in more than 30 years, following the Laughter, Love and Music festival in winter 1991 that commemorated the passing of beloved concert promoter Bill Graham.

Scott Metzger of Joe Russo's Almost Dead and Grammy Award-nominated jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan will join Lesh on stage in addition to other seasoned session players well-respected in the music industry like Stuart Bogie, John Molo, Jason Crosby, Katie Jacoby, and Mikaela Davis. Bay Area-native Grahame Lesh, co-founder of the band Midnight North that is helping to open up the Sunday afternoon concert, will also join his father on stage to help round out the lineup.

While the final concert will remain free to the public, reserved picnic tables are available for purchase starting at $5,000 for up to ten guests as part of the Festival’s fundraising efforts. Big Picnic table guests will receive valet parking, a catered picnic basket, and access to two VIP lounges. Visit the Festival’s table reservations page to learn more.

The week prior on Sunday, August 7, multi-accomplished blues musician Taj Mahal will perform at the Grove. Fans that afternoon will be treated to a medley of hits across the blues pioneer’s musical career that spans more than five decades.

Stern Grove Festival will also be live streaming both of these August concerts free-of-charge in order to reach as many music fans as possible, especially those unable to attend in-person. The virtual livestream experience will kick off starting at 2:00 p.m. PT each Sunday.
