Freakout Festival is back again November 10-13, 2022 for its 10th production of Seattle's favorite fall festival, and today, they have announced that their line-up is expanding! Known for curating a diverse arrangement of voices and sounds, Freakout once again delivers a special lineup comprised of favorite artists from past festivals, multiple legendary Latin artists, and some of the most exciting femme-fronted acts in the country. Over 120 performers are booked from around the globe to perform across seven venues in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
2022 main attractions include a special two-night-run with legendary 1960's Brazilian band, Os Mutantes, along with sets by Isobel Campbell of Belle & Sebastian, Los Saicos feat. Peruvian garage-rock legend, Papi Saico, indie-psych outfit, Futurebirds, and South African rockers, BLK JKS. Further acts include Mexico’s Los Dug Dugs, LA punks No Age, experimental rock band Automatic (newly added!), and a reunion of the UFO Club, featuring Christian Bland of The Black Angels + Danny Lee Blackwell of Night Beats.
True to the festival’s roots, there will be a strong psychedelic and garage rock presence, with performances from Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, The Mystery Lights, The Knee-Hi’s, and Black Bananas, as well as Freakout Records' label veterans Acid Tongue, all under the trippy glowing visuals of the Bay Area's Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show.
In collaboration with Mexico City's Devil in the Woods Records, Freakout Festival continues to host incredible talent from Latin America year after year. In 2022, the festival will feature SGT Papers, Las Nubes, Marineros, El Shirota, Margaritas Prodridas, and Mengers. Additionally, the festival features a handful of French artists, including Lulu Van Trapp, You Said Strange, and The Wave Chargers.
Freakout is excited to highlight some wave-making womxn-fronted acts from across the states this fall, including the likes of Colleen Green, Esmé Patterson, Pearl & The Oysters, Breanna Barbara, Kassi Valazza, Patriarchy, Pearl Earl and many more!
The 10th annual Freakout wouldn't be complete without showcasing the amazing talent residing in the Pacific Northwest, including The Black Tones, Smokey Brights, Oh, Rose, Jango, Shaina Shepherd, Monsterwatch, and Ariana Deboo, along with the latest Freakout Record's signees – Biblioteka, Beverley Crusher, and Smoker Dad. Guests should come ready to party, because Freakout is closing off roads in Ballard, planning secret shows and scheming other surprises to commemorate the anniversary event.
"Freakout started as a big-ass party for all of our friends masked as an amateur festival," said Festival Co-Director, Guy Keltner. "We were morons and held the first few fests in December. The point was to do something unique. After 10 years of touring, finding new music and making new friends, we've grown Freakout into something truly special. Thousands of people make the trek to see bands perform from all over the world; it rains, venues get sticky and loud, occasional psychedelics are consumed to enhance the experience. I've still never quite experienced anything like it. This isn't Bumbershoot or Block Party - we really, really don't want your kids at this event. Freakout is a musician's festival, and it always will be."
