With her highly anticipated new album Let’s Turn It Into Sound set for release August 26th, today experimental artist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has shared a new visually-assisted single “Have You Felt Lately?”. KAS has a multi-hued palette as an electronic artist and producer, not limited solely to ambient or composition works and evident in “Have You Felt Lately”, an outwardly profound exploration that defies classification. Traversing avant-garde pop, neoclassical, and otherwise undefinable expressions, this new single and album are invitations beyond the world of thought and into the magic that is hidden within the everyday. “Art is awe, art is mystery expressed,” writes KAS. “Art is somatic, even if it is experienced cerebrally. It is felt.” Setting the tone for the rest of the project, “Have You Felt Lately?” is a testament that Let’s Turn It Into Sound is KAS’ most ambitious, intuitive, and inviting work to date.
KAS, a self-described “feeler,” cites language & translation, sculptural fashion, dance, Butoh, Wushu Shaolin, and other forms of sensory and somatic experience all as influences on her art. The “Have You Felt Lately?” visual, captured by director Sean Hellfritsch, builds on the same visual concept as “Is It Me Or Is It You?”. KAS suited up in a Full Motion Capture Suit (Rokoko) to immerse viewers in an interdimensional environment of fluid movement, electrifying colors and a richly textured audio landscape reacting to an avatar modeled around KAS’ dance movements and future-fashion exploration.

Alongside release of the album, Smith will also embark on her North American Let’s Turn It Into Sound Tour highlighted by performances at Festival Mozaic in SLO on July 28 as well as Austin’s LookOUT Fest on September 3. The 9-date tour will hit major stops in New York, Chicago, and LA in December as well - tickets on sale now.
KAS’ work as a producer and composer has pushed the boundaries of experimental music and amassed critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR Music, The New York Times and more. Earlier this year saw the release of her collaborative album with Emile Mosseri, I Could Be Your Dog / I Could Be Your Moon, which garnered attention from the New York Times, NPR and recently was named as one of Vinyl Factory’s ‘Favorite Albums of 2022 So Far. These recent accomplishments help contribute to her already impressive resume which includes shows with bands like Animal Collective, Four Tet, Caribou, and Tortoise along with composing original works for Apple, BBC Orchestra, Adult Swim, MoMA, Red Bull and others. KAS’ soundscapes go beyond her own solo efforts. Most recently, KAS contributed a remix for the upcoming Danny Elfman album, Bigger Messier as well as working with Tyler Bates on the score for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at the Epcot Theme Park in Walt Disney World Florida. She also recently contributed to the soundtrack for the Lee Alexander Mcqueen: Mind Mythos Muse exhibition currently live at LACMA. KAS also recently released Somatic Hearing, a new book on her publishing imprint Touchtheplants, the second in a 12-part series of her inquisitive journey through researching sound.
