Hiro Kone is sharing the stunning second single from her anticipated Silvercoat the throng LP (due out Sept. 24 on Dais Records), entitled "Reciprocal capture ft. Speaker Music", it is accompanied by a music video by artist Somnath Bhatt.

Watch it via The Wire.

"“Reciprocal capture” is the process of “encounter and transformation, not absorption” as described by the late extinction studies scholar, Deborah Bird Rose. For the light to catch the eye there must be moments of darkness, and as the track undulates along its symbiotic crest, there are deep moments of cascading bliss parried against stark moments of recession. Collaborators Speaker Music and Hiro Kone fuse together their melodic and rhythmic elements into a single heartbeat, a transmutation heralding new and unexpected modes of existence." - Nicky Mao

On creating the video:

“The video comes from trying to animate a series of drawings I made while listening to Reciprocal capture. It was a delight to listen to the work of two artists I admire, I was thinking a lot about lacanian diagrams, tantric drawings, scale, light, luminosity – things only visible in contrast. Trying to give an aesthetic shape to those feelings." - Somnath Bhatt

New York electronic experimentalist Nicky Mao's 4th full-length, Silvercoat the throng, emerged against the backdrop of lockdown, compelled by an intuitive directive: “resist the urge to fill the space.” Compositionally this translated as a simmering, shadowy energy, veiled but variable, traced in a composite of strings, synthetics, rhythm, and voice. The title alludes to a poetic notion of “possibility, rescued from darkness,” which aptly evokes the shape-shifting, devotional feel of these ambitious and elegant sound designs, crafted in defiance of impermanence, driven by the pursuit of becoming “more and more articulated, differentiated.”

Collaborations with travis from ONOSpeaker Musicand Muqata'a further expand the album's lyrical, liminal palette, meshing elements of experimental techno, spoken word, neo-classical, and industrial noise into a fluid, encrypted dialect all its own. Mao speaks of creative strategies of solidification and reification, encounter and transformation, pure being and punctuation – a multitude of sparks, fuses, and forking paths leading across fresh thresholds and twilit terrain. Taken as a whole, Silvercoat captures Hiro Kone at the peak of their powers, alchemizing disruption and decomposition into regenerative interior worlds: “Within the darkness and absence is an opportunity for discovery.”

Hiro Kone will be playing a free record release show at Knockdown Center on September 24th with full lineup and details to be announced next week. To RSVP early, click here and use the code 'silvercoat'
