Today binki releases his debut EP MOTOR FUNCTION via Fader Label. A performer at his core, binki has quickly turned heads for his innovative fusion of pop, cavalier funk and bratty rock swagger. MOTOR FUNCTION is wholly charged with emotional clarity and an unrelenting commitment to the groove. It serves as both a reintroduction to binki as an artist, and a reaffirmation of his commitment to defy easy categorization. Each of its soaring tracks are defined by an undeniable sense of kinetic urgency, for which the project is named. The EP was produced by Justin and Jeremiah Raisen (Yves Tumor, Angel Olsen). Chasen Smith co-produced “Landline” and “Clay Pigeon,” and Nate Donmoyer co-produced "Revolve."

Today he shares the video for the EP’s “Invisible Fence.” It was directed by Drake Li who shares:

“To me, the song sounded like it came out of a heist movie from France or something. So I wanted the video to reflect that and reference some of those kinda films. We took the most inspiration from Chungking Express and Le Femme Nikita. The actual shoot was a little hectic. We may or may not have been shooting without permits. We might have been kicked out of our main location. The guy who kicked us out might have been a total asshole. Maybe. Allegedly.

But it was really fun, and even though that moment might have been tense I think everyone on the shoot really came together and stood behind what we were doing. It helped that the whole production really rocked with the song and wanted the video to be great.

The fact that it was a run-and-gun kind of shoot helped the edit. The video feels fun and kinda risky. Binki really delivered on his performance. He’s a rock star.”

"NYC-based musician binki only has four songs on his new EP, Motor Function, but they pack a punch. From the instant-jam bounce of opener “Clay Pigeon” to the frenetic, insistent thrum of “Revolve,” his voice shifts effortlessly from gentle melodies to post-punk bark, depending on the song. But all of the tracks are united by a penchant for head-nodding grooves and pulsating energy, as this son of Kenyan immigrants blends shimmering Britpop, gnarly American electro, and easygoing pop bravado into a distinctive sound." AV Club

"Genre-melding artist Binki explores everything from indie-pop to fuzzed-out rock to hip-hop on his music, and his latest single "Revolve" -- included on his forthcoming debut EP, out Aug. 13 -- is no exception as his vocals echo over glitchy reverberation that deserves a sea of heads to bang along to." Billboard

binki is also excited to announce his first U.S. tour. He will be hitting the road as support for Glass Animals with dates kicking off on August 30 in Lewistown, NY. The tour will see him play at Brooklyn, NY’s Prospect Park Bandshell, and a 2 night stand at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles before concluding on September 24 in Columbus, OH. binki will then head to Dover, DE for a slot on this year’s Firefly Festival on September 25. All dates are listed below.

Born to Kenyan immigrants in Pennsylvania, binki grew up on a steady diet of his older siblings’ music preferences. But it wasn’t until studying to be an actor at UNC Greensboro that binki found himself gravitating toward music as a career.

In 2018, he graduated, released his debut single “Marco,” and headed to NYC where he immediately captured audiences with early singles like “Wiggle,” “Sea Sick,” and the bright-eyed track “Heybb!”. Through vigilant self-promotion and word of mouth, binki swiftly drummed up millions of streams, heavy rotational play on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 and snagged opening spots for Still Woozy, BENNEE and Johnny Utah. In fall of last year, “Heybb!” was featured in an Apple iPad campaign meanwhile garnering several Artist to Watch lists including Pigeons & Planes who praised his “distinct, consistent style.”

He was ready to throw himself back into the music at the top of last year. But the pandemic proved too tall of a hurdle. “My lyrics are typically inspired by my day-to-day experiences. They come out like vomit. [Being in quarantine] I was in this position where I had a massive desire to make stuff but the obstacles were just too big.”

Rather than forcing the inevitable, binki instead fought off the atrophy by sharpening his music theory skills and immersing himself in the catalogs of iconoclasts such as David Bowie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Lou Reed. Once quarantine clouds began to part, a new batch of “anti-love songs'' began to reveal themselves, quickly assembling into a brilliant collection - MOTOR FUNCTION.
